Damien Darkblood intends to summon his father, but Mark Grayson—Invincible—is the one who actually arrives in Hell. The Season 3 finale’s post-credits scene does not identify its “surface dweller” target; Season 4 later clarifies the mismatch. The demon already present at the ritual is Satan, voiced by Bruce Campbell—not the person summoned.
What the Season 3 finale reveals—and leaves unanswered
The post-credits scene returns to Damien Darkblood, the demon detective sent back to Hell after uncovering Omni-Man’s murder of the Guardians of the Globe. Damien discusses bringing a powerful person from Earth to the underworld, but the finale does not name that person. The tease is a cliffhanger, not a confirmed identification. ComicBook.com’s coverage of the finale likewise describes the target as unnamed.
Who is summoned, and who was Damien trying to summon?
Season 4’s episode “Hurm” resolves the question: Damien says he was trying to summon his father, but Mark Grayson is brought to Hell instead. In other words, Damien’s intended target and the person who actually appears are different. TV Insider’s episode coverage identifies the mistaken arrival and Damien’s intention.
Who is the demon in the ritual?
The demon Damien addresses as “Master” is Satan, voiced by Bruce Campbell. He is already in Hell during the ritual; he is not the surface dweller Damien summons. Damien himself is a demon detective voiced by Clancy Brown. The distinction matters because the finale’s guest-star reveal and the later summoning payoff refer to separate characters. ComicBook.com reports the finale guest appearance, while TV Insider identifies Satan in the later episode.

Is the Hell storyline from the Invincible comics?
No. The Hell adventure is a story developed for the animated series, rather than a direct adaptation of a published comic arc. Robert Kirkman said, “I had this Hell storyline that I wanted to do in the comics.” The show gives that unproduced idea its own plot, including the threat to Hell and Earth and a conflict involving Volcanikka. As CinemaBlend’s interview coverage explains, the show’s Hell events are not settled by looking for the same arc in the comics.
