Yes: Nolan commits acts that are plainly evil, including betraying Earth and fighting his son. But Invincible also asks whether a person who has done terrible things can change, and whether anyone harmed by him can come to trust or forgive him. Those are separate questions; the possibility of redemption does not erase the harm.
Why Omni-Man’s actions make him evil
The clearest basis for judging Nolan is what he does, not what title he holds or how the story first presents him. Amazon’s official series recap describes Mark learning that Omni-Man is more villainous than heroic, with the conflict culminating in a battle between father and son. That betrayal shatters the trust built by Nolan’s public image as a hero and his private role as Mark’s father and mentor.
The story does not make Nolan’s conduct morally neutral simply because it gives him a history, a culture, or a possible path forward. Understanding why a character acts as he does can explain his choices; it does not make the people he harms responsible for them.
What his Viltrumite background explains—and what it does not
The recap identifies Nolan as a Viltrumite from Viltrum. That background matters to the story’s account of his loyalties and worldview, but it is not an excuse that cancels out his decisions. A useful distinction is between describing the values he was shaped by and deciding whether the acts he commits against others are acceptable. The first may add context; the second still requires confronting the damage.

Does the story consider him capable of change?
Yes. The series keeps returning to Nolan after the initial betrayal rather than treating that moment as the only fact that can ever matter about him. Amazon’s recap says he returns to Earth in Season 4 and frames Mark’s trust in him as unresolved. That is a continuing question, not evidence that Mark has forgiven him or that the relationship is repaired.
Co-creator Robert Kirkman has described the moral approach behind the comic, and the approach he hopes the show follows, this way: “I think one of the great things about the comic, and hopefully the show, is that no one’s truly all evil, no one’s truly all good.” He made the comment in a The Direct interview published February 11, 2025. It speaks to the series’ interest in morally complicated characters; it is not an acquittal of Nolan or a claim that all actions are equally forgivable.

Redemption is not the same as forgiveness
Kirkman has described the redemption question in Season 4 as difficult and nuanced, acknowledging that Nolan has “done some very terrible things.” In the same Dexerto interview published March 18, 2026, co-showrunner Simon Racioppa cautioned against treating forgiveness as an instant switch: “It’s not like a light switch. It’s not like we have an episode. We’re like, ‘Oh, he’s redeemed, done, he’s now a good guy. Everything’s forgiven, forgotten.’ That’s not a realistic thing.”
That distinction is central to answering the title. Nolan might change, and the story might explore whether he can earn a different future. Neither possibility obliges Mark—or anyone else he has harmed—to trust him, forgive him, or forget what happened. A redemption arc is about the character’s choices over time; forgiveness belongs to the people who experienced the harm.

Can audiences still see him as a hero?
Some viewers may respond to Nolan differently as the story develops. Voice actor J.K. Simmons has said he expects that “there will be some, I think, who will hail Omni-Man and/or Nolan as a hero,” in a The Direct interview published February 6, 2025. That is Simmons’s observation about possible audience reactions, not a canonical judgment from the series. Viewers can recognize change or complexity without denying that Nolan’s betrayal and violence were evil.

Omni-Man is evil in the sense that he commits grave, deliberate wrongs, including turning against Earth and violently opposing his son. But Invincible does not reduce the character to a permanent label: it leaves room to ask whether Nolan can change and whether trust can ever be rebuilt. The most accurate answer holds both ideas at once—his actions deserve condemnation, and any redemption must be demonstrated over time rather than assumed.
