Instagram’s song-sharing feature is real, but it has a specific name: Add Yours Music. Announced by Meta in May 2024, it lets someone choose a song in an Instagram Story and invite followers to add their own songs to the same prompt. It is separate from the ordinary Add Yours sticker and from Instagram’s standard Music sticker.
What is Instagram Add Yours Music?
Add Yours Music combines Instagram’s collaborative Add Yours prompt with the platform’s music library. One person starts a Story with a song, then followers can tap the response button and contribute songs of their own.
It can be used for prompts such as “song of the day,” favorite tracks, music that matches a mood, or recent discoveries. The feature was announced in Meta’s May 2024 announcement about new Instagram Stories stickers, so it should not be described as an entirely new August 2026 launch.
How to start an Add Yours Music chain
- Open Instagram’s mobile app and create a new Story.
- Tap the Stickers icon.
- Select Add Yours Music.
- Tap “+ / Add Music”.
- Choose a song from Instagram’s available music library.
- Post the Story.
Followers who see the Story can tap the Add Yours button and select their own song. Instagram’s labels and sticker placement can vary by app version, device, account, and rollout.

How Add Yours Music differs from other stickers

Using the regular Add Yours sticker does not automatically give a prompt music-sharing capability. For a collaborative song thread, look specifically for Add Yours Music.
Why Add Yours Music or a song may be missing
Instagram does not make every sticker or every song available to every account. If the sticker is absent, or if a particular track cannot be found, the cause may be availability rather than a fault with your phone.
If the sticker is missing
- Update Instagram through the App Store or Google Play.
- Start a new Story rather than relying on an older draft.
- Search the sticker tray for “Add Yours Music.”
- Try the standard Music sticker. If that is also unavailable, the issue may involve music-library access.
- If possible, test another account on the same device to see whether the difference is account-specific.
- Close and reopen Instagram. Reinstalling should be a later step, since unsaved drafts may be lost.
Instagram’s sticker help documentation says that some stickers may not be available to everyone or in every format and recommends updating the app when stickers are missing. It does not provide a guaranteed fix for every account.

If a song cannot be found
Instagram’s music picker draws from a licensed catalog, not from an unrestricted upload of any audio file. A track may be absent because it is not in the catalog, is unavailable in your country or region, has been removed or had its rights changed, or is listed under a different recording or title.
Try another version or another song. Do not treat uploading a copyrighted recording as a risk-free substitute.
If a follower cannot participate
The follower may not have Add Yours Music enabled, may be in a region with different music rights, may be using a computer, or may be affected by the Story’s audience and interaction settings. The original poster’s account settings can also affect who can view and respond to the Story.

Where Instagram’s music comes from
Song choices come from Instagram’s licensed music library. Meta says availability can vary by country or region, account type, and the rights associated with a particular use. Some business accounts and post types have more limited access. The library is generally intended for personal, non-commercial use; having access to a song in the app does not automatically clear it for advertising or other commercial use.
For commercial content, Meta points to Sound Collection, which it describes as offering more than 14,000 royalty-free songs and sounds, including options for commercial uses such as ads. That does not mean every Sound Collection track will appear inside the Add Yours Music picker, or that every business use is automatically cleared without checking the applicable terms.

Instagram’s Add Yours help page lists Android, iPhone, and iPad support and says the feature is not available on computers: Instagram Help Center. Instagram has not established a universal minimum iOS version, Android version, or app version for Add Yours Music in the documentation cited here, so updating the app is more reliable than relying on a specific version number.

Does Add Yours Music work in Reels?
Meta’s Add Yours Music announcement describes the feature as an Instagram Stories sticker. Instagram separately documents Add Yours and Music controls for Reels, but that does not establish universal support for the dedicated Add Yours Music sticker in Reels.
For the documented song-chain flow, use Stories. Reels may offer separate Add Yours or music tools depending on the account, app version, and rollout. See Instagram’s Reels help documentation for the controls available to your account.

Do not assume that every response is automatically private or automatically public. Visibility depends on factors including whether the account is public or private, who can view the original Story, and the account’s reply and interaction settings.
Before starting a music chain, check your Story audience and interaction controls. Followers should also consider who may be able to see their response through the relevant Add Yours experience. Instagram’s current privacy and Story-audience settings are the authoritative source for account-specific visibility.
