Reliable reporting documents Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s history with several homes in Pacific Palisades, California, including a contemporary property and two neighboring houses they later sold. The New York part of the title is not substantiated: the available reporting does not establish that either owns a New York residence. Nor does it confirm the couple’s current ownership or the present condition of every California property described here.
What is known about the Pacific Palisades home?
In February 2010, the Los Angeles Times reported that Hanks bought a contemporary Pacific Palisades home from producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. The newspaper put its size at 14,500 square feet and its reported purchase price at slightly more than $26 million, citing Blockshopper for the price. It also said property records described the home as built in 1996, with four bedrooms and five bathrooms. These are historical details from the 2010 report, not a current inspection or valuation. Architectural Digest’s January 2025 account describes the property as set on 1.5 acres, with a two-level limestone pavilion, wine cellar, cliffside pool and deck, and tree-lined motor court. It reports that the home was substantially updated in 2006. These architectural details come from secondary reporting rather than a current inspection. Architectural Digest, January 2025
What happened to the two neighboring homes?
Hanks and Wilson also held two adjacent homes in the Palisades Riviera area. In August 2016, the Los Angeles Times reported that the properties were listed separately for $9.25 million and $8.75 million—a combined asking price of $18 million. The paper said the homes were held by trusts controlled by the couple, citing people familiar with the listings and property records. Los Angeles Times, August 2016

One of the homes was described as a Spanish Revival villa of nearly 4,000 square feet, built in 1933, with four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The Times noted that other coverage had misattributed that house to actor Matt LeBlanc; its sources and property records pointed instead to trusts controlled by Hanks and Wilson.
In May 2017, the Times reported that the two properties sold for slightly more than $17.5 million combined. It said the couple had acquired them in separate 2003 and 2007 transactions for a combined $13.1 million. They are former holdings, not evidence of the couple’s current home or portfolio. Los Angeles Times, May 2017
What was reported after the 2025 Palisades fire?
Architectural Digest reported in January 2025 that aerial imagery showed the couple’s contemporary Palisades property apparently standing after the fire. That was a dated observation, not confirmation of the home’s current condition, current ownership, or a fire-resistant design. The Associated Press reported on the fire’s severity, but that coverage does not independently establish the property’s status. Associated Press, January 2025
Does Tom Hanks own a home in New York?
The available New York-focused search did not find dependable reporting or records tying a New York residence to Hanks or Wilson. That does not prove they have never owned property there; it means the New York claim cannot be presented as established fact on the available evidence. A filming location or fictional residence is not proof of personal ownership. New York residence search

What can be said about other reported properties?
Architectural Digest has also described reported properties and locations beyond Pacific Palisades, including Malibu and homes outside California. The reporting available here does not establish whether those properties remain in the couple’s ownership. They should be understood as part of past coverage, not a verified current portfolio.

How to read the property record
- Documented California history: The Times reported the 2010 purchase and the listing and sale history of two neighboring Palisades homes, drawing on property records, public records, and real-estate sources as specified in its coverage.
- Reported features: Architectural Digest provides the design and site details, as well as a dated observation after the fire; those details are not a present-day inspection.
- Unresolved facts: Current ownership, current condition, and any New York residence are not established by these reports. No current property valuation follows from the historical sale figures.
