Indian Police Force brings Rohit Shetty’s familiar Cop Universe style to a seven-episode series, but several reviewers found that the longer format adds little freshness or depth. It may suit viewers looking for stylized police action; those after grounded procedure or a more distinctive story may be disappointed.
What is Indian Police Force about?
The action series follows Delhi Police officers pursuing terrorist Zarar after bomb blasts, with Gujarat ATS chief Tara Shetty drawn into the investigation. Sidharth Malhotra, Vivek Oberoi and Shilpa Shetty Kundra lead a cast that also includes Shweta Tiwari, Nikitin Dheer, Rituraj Singh, Mukesh Rishi and Lalit Parimoo. Created by Rohit Shetty, and directed by Shetty and Sushwanth Prakash, the series was announced as a seven-part action drama. Prime Video set its worldwide premiere for 19 January 2024. Shetty described it as his “first digital venture” in the official announcement.
Is it different from Rohit Shetty’s cop films?
In the view of several critics, not enough. Scroll.in found the series close to Shetty’s previous cop films, while NDTV characterized it as a slightly altered, toned-down Sooryavanshi. The Indian Express reviewer Shubhra Gupta summed up her judgment: “the whole thing remains a Rohit Shetty show, all surface, minimal depth; all familiar flourish, nothing new.”

That familiarity is central to the criticism: the swaggering police heroes, pursuit plotting and action spectacle are recognizable, but reviewers saw limited novelty in how they were assembled. This is a synthesis of those reviews, not a prediction that every viewer will react the same way.
Does the seven-episode format add depth?
Reviewers questioned whether the story gains enough investigative or character detail to justify its longer form. Scroll.in said the long-form detailing was largely missing; The Indian Express argued that familiar material had been spread across seven episodes, making the series a drag. NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee gave it 1.5 stars and wrote: “The biggest attribute missing in Indian Police Force is force.” The Indian Express also rated it 1.5 out of 5. These are individual critics’ ratings, not an audience or aggregate score.

How are the action, realism and performances?
The reviews describe a show that favors spectacle over granular police work. The Indian Express emphasizes cars and action; NDTV says the series does not offer a detailed account of urban policing. In her review for About Amazon, Sarita A Tanwar notes a tonal shift: the early episodes lean toward drama and romance, with action becoming more prominent in the finale. Her verdict still faults the basic plot and the preference for style over realism, summing up the approach as: “Heroism trumps realism: no bad cops exist in the Shetty copverse.”
Critical responses to the performances were mixed. Scroll.in found that Kabir has the meatiest role but does not linger in the memory, and NDTV felt the lead cast did not find freshness in the material. The Indian Express was more positive about individual moments, noting Shilpa Shetty Kundra’s apparent enjoyment of the action and suggesting Vivek Oberoi deserved more screen time.

Is Indian Police Force worth watching?
It depends on what you want from a police thriller. If Shetty’s stylized Cop Universe action and heroic swagger are the draw, the series may still deliver familiar pleasures. If you want a fresh premise, sustained investigative detail, grounded policing or stronger character development, the concerns raised by the reviews are directly relevant. The critical consensus is unfavorable, but it is not a substitute for your own taste in action dramas.
