A VPS can give you more control, but you must configure and maintain the encoder and calculate the full compute, storage, data-transfer and tax costs. There is not enough verified, like-for-like India pricing here to name a cost winner.

Which should you choose?
- Choose a managed service if reducing server administration matters most and its verified controls fit your workflow.

How to set up a recorded gaming VOD for YouTube Live
Use the resolution and frame rate already present in the source VOD as your starting point. A higher output setting cannot restore detail the recording does not contain.
- Prepare the source. Keep an original copy of the VOD. Check that the game publisher permits your intended commercial use, and make sure any music, overlays or other included material are cleared for streaming.
- Configure YouTube Live. Create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, then copy its stream key into your chosen encoder or managed service. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it, and reset it if exposed.
- Choose an ingest protocol. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the ingest connection. RTMP/RTMPS supports normal, low and ultra-low latency. HLS and DASH support additional codecs and may suit some higher-resolution workflows, but YouTube says their segment-based delivery typically has higher latency. - Set the encoder for SDR video. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, up to 60 fps. Select bitrate from its current resolution, frame-rate and codec table rather than assuming one number fits every stream. For H.264, YouTube lists 12 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 60 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are recommendations from YouTube’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, and should be checked against its live table when configuring. Use an accepted audio format and confirm the VOD’s audio is present in the outgoing feed. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrates.
- Test before a long run. Start with representative gameplay motion and audio. Check YouTube’s stream health and listen for missing or distorted sound before leaving the stream unattended.
- Plan for recovery and archives. Decide how the encoder or service will restart after a dropped connection, and retain the original VOD locally. Do not rely on YouTube to save a continuous stream as one complete archive.
HDR is a separate setup
Do not apply SDR settings blindly to an HDR VOD. YouTube’s HDR streaming guidance requires HEVC and a compatible HDR source and encoder configuration; the supported path and settings are more involved than a basic SDR setup. Check YouTube’s HDR live-streaming guidance before configuring an HDR stream.

How much data does a continuous YouTube stream use?
Estimate outbound data from the stream’s average bitrate and total streaming time. At a steady bitrate, each 1 Mbps uses about 0.45 GB per hour using decimal gigabytes; for example, 12 Mbps is about 5.4 GB per hour, or about 129.6 GB over 24 hours. These are arithmetic estimates, not a provider quote. Actual transfer can vary with bitrate behavior and protocol overhead.
For a VPS, compare that estimate with the provider’s included outbound-transfer quota and check its regional pricing, overage charges, tax, storage and any compute acceleration you need. A VM’s advertised monthly rate alone is not the complete cost. Do not assume an India-based server improves playback for Indian viewers: ingest location and viewer delivery are separate, and that advantage is not established here.

Can YouTube save a 24-hour livestream as a VOD?
Not reliably as one complete archive. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. Keep the original VOD locally and, if a YouTube archive matters, plan deliberate stream segments under the 12-hour threshold. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Can you monetize gameplay that runs on loop?
Do not assume that a stream method or continuous schedule makes gameplay eligible for monetization. YouTube’s Partner Program policies assess originality and authenticity, and repetitive or mass-produced content without distinct creative, educational or entertainment value can be ineligible. YouTube clarified its policy on mass-produced or repetitive content under “inauthentic content” on July 15, 2025. Separately, gameplay monetization depends on the game publisher’s commercial-use license; extended gameplay without commentary that is meaningfully tied to the action may not be accepted. Common problems and fixes
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Confirm the selected stream key belongs to the active YouTube stream, the encoder is connected to the intended ingest endpoint, and the source is playing. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- Stream health reports unstable ingest: Check that the sending connection can sustain the configured bitrate, then verify CBR, keyframe interval and the bitrate for the chosen resolution, frame rate and codec. Reduce output settings if the connection or VPS cannot sustain them.
- Video plays but audio is missing: Confirm the encoder is using an accepted audio format and that the VOD’s audio track is selected and audible in the outgoing feed.
- The stream stops after a disconnect: Check the encoder’s restart or process-supervision behavior, the VPS status and network path, or the managed service’s recovery controls. Do not infer a guaranteed uptime from a vendor’s continuous-stream description.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Keep a local source copy and use planned segments when YouTube archives are important.
- Transfer costs exceed expectations: Compare the actual stream duration and bitrate with the provider’s outbound quota and overage rules; include regional pricing and tax in the total.
