These are the four returning Ken co-stars named in the Los Angeles Times’ March 10, 2024, coverage. They joined Gosling for the choreographed number; they should not be confused with the larger group of dancers and musicians onstage.
How the number unfolded
At the 96th Academy Awards on March 10, 2024, Gosling began singing from the audience near Margot Robbie, then moved onto the stage for the performance. The Academy’s February 28 announcement billed Gosling and Mark Ronson as performers of “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie.
Ronson was not one of the returning Ken actors: he co-wrote the song with Andrew Wyatt and performed at the ceremony. Slash joined for a guitar solo, and the Los Angeles Times also reported Wolfgang Van Halen among the musicians onstage. What does “65 Kens” mean?
The Guardian reported that the performance featured “65 Kens.” That is a count of the number’s wider onstage ensemble, not evidence that 65 Ken actors from the film returned. The four co-stars identified above are the returning Ken cast members named in event coverage. The Guardian’s March 11 report gives the ensemble figure.
Song and award context
“I’m Just Ken,” written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, was nominated for Best Original Song. The award went to “What Was I Made For?,” also from Barbie, written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, according to the Academy’s 2024 ceremony record. Atlantic Records later published an official video of the live performance.
