Choose by what your channel broadcasts
A prerecorded playlist and a live camera feed are different jobs. Cloud looping services send uploaded videos to YouTube; a camera-based app sends footage from a physical camera. A general YouTube encoder workflow can support a self-operated production, but it does not by itself provide cloud-hosted looping of a video library.
- Prerecorded videos: choose a cloud service designed to schedule and loop uploaded videos.
- Live camera footage: choose a compatible camera and a camera-streaming application.
- Live production or gameplay: use YouTube’s encoder workflow with suitable software or standalone hardware, and plan to operate and monitor it.
- Enterprise events and controlled on-demand libraries: IBM may remain relevant if you need capabilities such as branded portals, access controls, APIs, captions, analytics, or multi-CDN delivery.

When IBM Video Streaming is still a fit
IBM currently presents IBM Video Streaming as a platform for live and on-demand video, including simulated-live playback, auto-archive, branded portals, security features, APIs, captions, and analytics. IBM’s support guidance points users to its status page for interruption updates. Prerequisites for going live on YouTube
Before choosing a service or configuring an encoder, confirm that the channel can livestream. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming setup guidance before scheduling a launch.
YouTube describes mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. An encoder is the relevant route for external audio/video equipment or a more involved production; it is not necessary to keep a home computer running when using a cloud looping service.

Set up a prerecorded 24/7 stream

What to compare before choosing
- Content source: uploaded recordings, camera footage, or a live production require different tools.
- Where processing happens: a cloud service, an in-camera app, and a locally operated encoder have different power, network, and maintenance needs.
- Recovery and monitoring: check what happens after a dropped connection, whether the service attempts recovery, and how you will notice a failure. No option should be treated as a promise of uninterrupted delivery.
- Quality and stream capacity: compare actual supported formats and concurrent-stream limits in the vendor’s current terms rather than relying on a general “24/7” label.
- Platform and controls: confirm YouTube compatibility, access controls, portal needs, analytics, and any other platform requirements.
- Total operating cost: include service or license fees and, for a camera or self-operated setup, compatible hardware, power, connectivity, and ongoing oversight.
