Ian Ziering said he was “thankful” to be “completely unscathed” after a December 31, 2023, altercation with minibike riders near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Los Angeles. Ziering said his daughter was also unharmed. LAPD later identified him as the victim in a battery report, and two people were arrested in 2024. A civil lawsuit filed by one of the riders was reported dismissed with prejudice in June 2026, without a reported settlement payment—but the dismissal was not a trial finding about who started the confrontation.
What happened on Hollywood Boulevard
The confrontation happened at about 3 p.m. on December 31, 2023, near Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue in Los Angeles. Ziering was stopped in traffic when he became involved in an altercation with several minibike riders.
Video shared online shows Ziering approaching a rider near his vehicle before additional riders join the confrontation. The footage documents an escalation, but it does not establish every disputed fact—most importantly, who initiated the physical contact or exactly what happened to the vehicle.
What Ian Ziering said about the incident
In a statement posted on January 1, 2024, Ziering said one of the riders had approached his car aggressively. He said he got out to check for possible damage and described the confrontation as something he navigated in self-protection.

Ziering also said that he and his daughter, who was in the vehicle, were “completely unscathed” and expressed concern about what he characterized as street “hooliganism.” Contemporaneous reports generally described his daughter as a minor, although her exact age was inconsistently reported.
His description explains the “thankful” and “unscathed” wording associated with the story. It does not establish that nobody was struck, that no property was damaged, or that every person involved escaped injury. Those issues later appeared in conflicting accounts.
What police reported
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed on January 2, 2024, that officers had taken a battery report and that Ziering was listed as the victim. Being listed as a victim in a police report is not the same as a court finding about civil or criminal liability.

Later LAPD-related reporting said the confrontation began over possible damage to Ziering’s vehicle. Those reports also said the minibike riders vandalized the vehicle while Ziering’s child remained inside. That description should be understood as an account attributed to police reporting, not as an independently adjudicated finding.
Some coverage referred to the riders as a “mini-bike gang” or connected them with an alleged “605 gang.” The available record does not establish that every rider visible in the video belonged to a criminal gang, so “minibike riders” is the more precise description.
Two arrests followed in May 2024
On May 21, 2024, LAPD-related reporting identified two people as allegedly connected with the confrontation:

The arrests were allegations, not convictions. The reporting does not establish that every person seen in the video was arrested. In June 2024, subsequent reports said prosecutors declined to pursue a criminal case against Hernandez. The available reporting reviewed for this article did not establish a conviction or completed prosecution against either suspect.
Hernandez later sued Ziering
On December 29, 2025, Hernandez filed a civil lawsuit against Ziering in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The complaint included claims for assault, battery, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress and malicious prosecution.
Hernandez’s complaint presented a sharply different version of the encounter. It alleged that Ziering unexpectedly exited his vehicle, yelled at Hernandez and shoved him without provocation. Those statements are allegations in a civil pleading, not findings that the court had established as fact.

Ziering’s legal team pursued an anti-SLAPP defense aimed at claims connected with his police report and public statements. Anti-SLAPP procedures address claims arising from protected speech or petitioning activity and can affect whether a case proceeds. They do not automatically determine who initiated the physical confrontation or resolve the underlying factual dispute.
Latest legal status: dismissal with prejudice in 2026
Public reporting in June 2026 said Hernandez voluntarily dismissed the lawsuit with prejudice and that related claims were mutually dismissed. A dismissal “with prejudice” generally means the claims cannot be filed again in the same form.

The dismissal was not a trial verdict and should not be described as a judicial finding that Ziering’s account was true. Nor does the criminal reporting support saying that Ziering was “cleared” by a court. Police identified him as the victim, no criminal charge against him was established in the reviewed reporting, and the civil case ended through dismissal rather than a decision on the facts.

Still disputed or requiring attribution

- The identity and conduct of every rider present.
- Whether any confidential consideration accompanied the reported dismissal.
The most accurate account therefore preserves both the confirmed procedural history and the competing descriptions of the encounter.
