There is no confirmed sequel to the 2011 film. In an interview published April 1, 2024, author and co-creator James Frey said producer Neal Moritz was working on a version written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Frey described it as “in process,” but added that he could not say whether it would ever be made. That update points to a reported reboot effort—not a greenlit sequel, a scheduled release, or a confirmed return of the original cast.
What is known about the reported project?
Frey’s April 2024 comments are the clearest status update established here. He said: “So, we are in process on it and I can’t say whether it will actually ever get made or not, but I have great people I’m working with who are trying to make it happen, for sure.” The interview names Moritz as producer and Gough and Millar as writers. “In process” indicates that people were trying to develop the project at the time of the interview. It does not establish a studio or platform, a production start, a release date, a cast, or whether the version would be a film or a series. The interview is dated April 1, 2024; it does not establish what may have happened since.
Is it a sequel or a reboot?
Keep the two ideas separate. A sequel would directly continue the 2011 film; the 2024 report described a new version or reboot effort. It did not confirm that the original movie’s planned continuation was moving ahead, nor that its cast would return. ComingSoon also characterized the reported project as a reboot rather than a confirmed direct sequel. See ComingSoon’s April 2, 2024 report.

What can you read while waiting?
The screen project’s uncertain status is separate from the books, which tell a longer story. Penguin lists The Lorien Legacies as a seven-book main series, beginning with I Am Number Four and continuing with The Power of Six, The Rise of Nine, The Fall of Five, The Revenge of Seven, The Fate of Ten, and United As One. See Penguin’s Lorien Legacies series catalog.
The Power of Six is the next main-series novel after I Am Number Four. Penguin Random House’s catalog describes the original novel and its continuation in the series. See the publisher’s listing for I Am Number Four. Readers who want additional stories can also look for the companion Lost Files titles, including Five’s Legacy, Return to Paradise, and Five’s Betrayal; these expand the fictional universe but are not evidence of a new screen adaptation. See Penguin’s Lost Files catalog.
