That was a significant loss for Hulu subscribers because Hulu had previously positioned itself as a convenient home for a broad Dragon Ball viewing journey. However, the 2025 removal should not be mistaken for Hulu’s permanent loss of the franchise: catalog evidence available as of August 12, 2026 shows several of the affected titles listed on Hulu again.
Which Dragon Ball shows left Hulu?
The February 1, 2025 expiration notices and contemporaneous entertainment reports identified three major removals:
#1 Best Overall
- Dragon Ball — the original 1986 series that introduces Goku, Bulma, and the search for the Dragon Balls.
- Dragon Ball GT — the 1996 continuation produced by Toei Animation rather than adapted directly from Akira Toriyama’s manga.
- Dragon Ball Super — the 2015–2018 sequel series set after the events of Dragon Ball Z.
The reports described the titles as expiring or becoming unavailable on February 1. The available evidence does not establish the precise contract terms, identify a particular clause, or prove that Hulu made a permanent franchise-wide decision. The most accurate description is that the Hulu availability window ended or was not renewed for those programs at that time.
What remained on Hulu in February 2025?
The contemporary reports did not say that every Dragon Ball program disappeared. Dragon Ball Z Kai and the then-current series Dragon Ball Daima were reported as remaining available after the February 1 removals.
Dragon Ball Daima was being treated as a separate current offering rather than part of the removed group. Hulu had also listed its finale for February 28, 2025, although that scheduling information was later removed after it was noticed. A listing or scheduled episode is not a guarantee of continued access, particularly when streaming catalogs and episode windows can change.
Why the removal mattered to viewers
Before the change, Hulu’s own April 19, 2024 Dragon Ball viewing guide presented a relatively accessible route through the franchise. It listed the original Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and the film Dragon Ball Super: Broly, along with episode information for several series.
Rank #2
That made Hulu useful for two different audiences:
- First-time viewers could begin with the original Dragon Ball, continue into Dragon Ball Z Kai, treat GT as optional, and then move to Dragon Ball Super.
- Returning fans could rewatch large portions of the franchise without moving between several services.
Removing the original series interrupted the most natural starting point for newcomers. Removing Dragon Ball Super also took away the principal continuation for viewers who had finished Dragon Ball Z Kai. In practical terms, a subscriber could begin a long watch-through on Hulu only to discover that the next major chapter was no longer included.
Did Hulu permanently lose Dragon Ball?
No definitive permanent-loss claim is supported by the available evidence. The February 2025 event was real, but later catalog listings show that Hulu’s Dragon Ball availability changed again.
As of the research check on August 12, 2026, Hulu’s current Dragon Ball series page listed:
- Dragon Ball
- Dragon Ball Z Kai
- Dragon Ball Super
- Dragon Ball GT
- Dragon Ball Daima
A U.S. JustWatch check performed on July 29, 2026 likewise reported the original Dragon Ball as available through Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Crunchyroll via Amazon Channel, with digital purchase options also shown. Hulu’s catalog is dynamic, so these listings document observed availability on those dates rather than promising a fixed period of access.

Hulu also added Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
The post-removal changes were not limited to returning series. Hulu’s April 2026 schedule listed Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero as an April 13 addition through Crunchyroll, and Hulu’s anime hub later displayed the film as available.
This does not mean that every Dragon Ball title will always be available through Hulu, or that Hulu and Crunchyroll have identical catalogs. It does show why the February 2025 removals should be described as a temporary catalog state rather than the final end of Dragon Ball on Hulu.
Why streaming rights keep changing
Anime availability is often divided by title, season, film, territory, and licensing period. A service may carry one Dragon Ball series while lacking another, or may add a film through a partner arrangement without restoring every earlier show.
The February 2025 reporting attributed the removals to titles expiring or licensing arrangements not being renewed. No source in the available record provides the complete agreement between Hulu and the relevant rights holders, and there is no verified official statement explaining a specific negotiation or contract clause. It would therefore be misleading to present one precise business explanation as established fact.

How to check where Dragon Ball is streaming now
- Check Hulu’s live title pages. Search for the specific series or film rather than assuming that the presence of one Dragon Ball title means the entire franchise is included.
- Check by season and region. Streaming availability discussed here is for the United States. Other countries may have different rights arrangements.
- Cross-check with a current availability guide such as JustWatch. Confirm that the listing is for the exact program you want and distinguish subscription streaming from digital rental or purchase.
- Check before starting a long watch-through. A series can be listed today and carry an expiration notice later, so viewers planning a multi-week or multi-month viewing project should verify access again before subscribing.
What should fans do if a show disappears again?
If a particular series leaves a subscription catalog, viewers have three practical options: move to another verified legal service, purchase the title digitally where offered, or use physical media. Fans who do not want to depend on rotating streaming licenses can also compare Dragon Ball DVD and Blu-ray releases.
Physical editions can provide more durable access than a subscription catalog, but buyers should check the exact series, edition, language tracks, subtitles, region compatibility, and whether the release contains the complete run. There is not one universally verified complete U.S. set covering every Dragon Ball program, and availability and stock can change.

Hulu’s February 1, 2025 catalog change removed Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super, while Dragon Ball Z Kai and Dragon Ball Daima were reported to remain. The loss disrupted Hulu’s previously convenient viewing path and demonstrated the risks of relying on a single streaming subscription.
But it was not a permanent verdict on Hulu’s Dragon Ball rights. Later Hulu and JustWatch listings showed the original series, GT, and Super available again, while Hulu also added Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Anyone deciding where to watch should treat the catalog as date-sensitive and verify the exact title before committing to a service.
