Reported symptoms included recording counters that increased without producing a playable file, recordings that disappeared after the broadcast, playback errors, redirection to a show page, and episodes that appeared only as ad-supported on-demand streams.
Hulu said it was investigating similar reports and directed affected customers to phone or chat support. However, no public Hulu postmortem, technical explanation, or dated resolution notice has been located. That means the most accurate current description is that Hulu investigated a reported NBC-specific or NBC-related DVR problem—not that every NBC channel was affected, and not that a confirmed fix date is known.

What Hulu subscribers reported
The reports surfaced in early to mid-November 2025 among Hulu + Live TV customers. The problem did not look like a conventional device failure in every case. Some subscribers saw the recording count rise as though Hulu had captured the program, but no episode appeared in the DVR library. Others saw a recording disappear after the broadcast ended or received a playback error when they tried to open it.
In some cases, searching for the program or selecting a “watch latest episode” option led to an ordinary streaming version rather than a DVR recording. Viewers said the episode was available only with advertising, and therefore did not behave like the recording they had scheduled.

Programs mentioned in user reports included:
- The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
- Late Night with Seth Meyers
- Saturday Night Live
- NBC Nightly News
- Today
- Dateline NBC
- Law & Order: SVU
- Some NBC sports broadcasts
Other networks often continued recording normally. Some users also said certain NBC programs, including Jeopardy! in particular markets, continued to record. That variation matters: the available evidence does not support calling this a total NBC blackout or a failure affecting every Hulu account, affiliate, or program.
The contemporaneous account of the incident, including the reported symptoms and troubleshooting attempts, was summarized by PiunikaWeb on November 13, 2025.
What Hulu confirmed—and what it did not
Hulu Support publicly responded to reports on X and said it was looking into similar reports. The support response directed customers to contact Hulu by phone or chat so the company could collect account-specific information and error details. The response is documented through the contemporaneous report linked above.
Hulu’s own Hulu + Live TV product page says the service includes:
- An unlimited cloud DVR
- The ability to record live content
- Multiple simultaneous recordings
- Recording retention for up to nine months
- NBC among the available live channels, subject to local-market availability
Those features explain why the incident was significant for subscribers who paid for live television and relied on recordings. They do not establish that every local NBC affiliate was affected. Hulu’s live-channel lineup can vary by market, and the reports themselves showed geographic and program-level variation.
Was the cause an NBC licensing problem?
Some affected subscribers said Hulu or Disney support agents described the issue as an NBC rights or licensing problem. That explanation appeared in customer-support conversations, Reddit discussions, and a screenshot referenced by the contemporaneous technology report. It was not presented in a formal Hulu or NBC press release, so it should be treated as an unverified support explanation, not a confirmed root cause.
The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: something on the service side appeared to affect how certain NBC programming was scheduled, stored, entitled, or presented through Hulu’s DVR system. Several different technical causes could produce similar symptoms, including:
- A rights-window or recording-entitlement configuration problem
- Incorrect or incomplete program metadata
- A scheduling or episode-identification error
- A problem with a local affiliate feed
- An application or backend DVR fault
- A combination of rights, metadata, and recording-service issues
There is not enough public evidence to select one of those explanations. In particular, the reports that some NBC programs recorded normally argue against describing the incident as a universal network-wide failure.
Has Hulu fixed the NBC DVR problem?
No formally confirmed resolution date was found. As of August 12, 2026, the available research located the original November 2025 reporting, user discussions, Hulu’s public acknowledgment, and Hulu’s current product information, but no reliable Hulu postmortem, incident-resolution bulletin, or dated statement explaining when the problem was fixed.
That does not prove the issue is still active. It also does not prove that it was completely resolved. A particular subscriber may find that recordings work normally now, while another may encounter a new or related problem involving a specific program, affiliate, device, or account. The responsible wording is that Hulu acknowledged and investigated the reports, but did not publicly document a technical cause or formal resolution in the sources available here.
What to do if an NBC recording is missing
1. Check whether the program was actually scheduled to record
Open the program’s details page in Hulu and verify that recording is enabled. If the series was removed and re-added, check the setting again rather than assuming the old recording rule survived. Also confirm that you are viewing the correct Hulu profile and account.
Save the exact program title, episode date, broadcast time, and local NBC affiliate. A report about Saturday Night Live in one market may not describe the same failure as a report about NBC Nightly News in another.

2. Look in the DVR and search results separately
Check the DVR library after the broadcast, then search for the show directly. If the episode is available only through a “latest episode” or show-page route, note whether Hulu labels it as on-demand and whether advertisements are inserted. That distinction helps support determine whether the episode was recorded and lost, never scheduled, or delivered through a separate on-demand entitlement.
3. Test another program and, if possible, another network
Record a program from a different network and check whether it appears and plays normally. You can also test another NBC program if one is available in your market. This will not repair the missing recording, but it can help distinguish a broad account or device problem from a program-, affiliate-, or network-specific problem.
4. Restart only as a basic diagnostic step
Restarting a Roku, smart TV, streaming box, or mobile device can clear a local application state problem, but it cannot recreate a cloud recording that Hulu’s backend did not store. Some subscribers reported trying device restarts and reinstalling or re-adding shows without a consistent fix. Do not treat repeated restarts as evidence that the problem is necessarily in your hardware.
5. Contact Hulu Support with useful evidence
Use Hulu’s phone or chat support and provide:
- Your Hulu + Live TV account email or other account-verification details requested by support
- The affected program and episode or broadcast date
- Your city, state, ZIP code, and local NBC affiliate if known
- Your device and Hulu app platform, such as Roku, Apple TV, web browser, or smart TV
- The time the program was scheduled to air
- Any error code or exact error wording
- Whether the DVR counter increased
- Whether the recording disappeared, redirected to the show page, or appeared only as ad-supported on-demand video
- Whether recordings from other networks worked normally
Ask support to confirm whether the issue is being tracked for the specific program and market. Avoid presenting the licensing theory as established fact; describe it as something a prior support interaction allegedly suggested.

Immediate viewing alternatives
Watch the on-demand version if Hulu offers it
If Hulu presents the missing episode as a regular on-demand stream, it may be available even though the DVR copy is absent. This is a viewing fallback, not a restoration of the recording. It may include advertising and may have different availability or expiration rules from a cloud-DVR file.
Try Peacock for NBC programming
Peacock’s NBC collection provides another place to look for full episodes of NBC programs. It is a streaming alternative, not a replacement for Hulu’s DVR. The availability, release timing, advertising, and subscription requirements can vary by program and plan, so check the specific show rather than assuming every NBC broadcast will appear there immediately.
For future local NBC recordings: use an antenna-based DVR
If the priority is recording local NBC broadcasts independently of Hulu, an over-the-air setup can be useful. An over-the-air DVR receives broadcast television through an antenna and can record eligible local channels, including NBC where the local affiliate is receivable. This approach does not depend on Hulu’s cloud DVR.
The limitation is essential: an antenna DVR records antenna-delivered broadcast signals. It does not record Hulu, Peacock, Netflix, Sling, cable, satellite, or other streaming-service feeds. It is therefore an independent way to record a local NBC signal, not a repair for a missing Hulu recording and not a way to recover an episode that was never stored in Hulu’s cloud.

An indoor or outdoor TV antenna may work, but reception depends on distance from the local transmitter, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and the availability of an NBC affiliate in your market. Bottom line for affected viewers
The November 2025 reports describe a real and narrowly supported Hulu + Live TV DVR problem involving some NBC programming. Hulu acknowledged investigating it, but the available public evidence does not identify a confirmed cause or resolution date. If a recording is missing, document the program, market, device, symptoms, and any error code before contacting Hulu Support. For immediate viewing, check Hulu’s on-demand listing and Peacock. For independent future recording of local NBC broadcasts, consider an antenna-based DVR—but do not confuse it with a way to record streaming services.
Frequently Asked Questions
Did Hulu stop recording all NBC shows?
No. Reports indicated that some NBC programs and broadcasts were affected, while other NBC content—and recordings from other networks—continued to work for some subscribers. There is no evidence that every NBC affiliate, program, or Hulu account was affected.
Did Hulu confirm that NBC licensing caused the problem?
Hulu acknowledged investigating similar reports, but no formal Hulu or NBC statement located in the research confirmed licensing as the cause. Rights or licensing explanations were attributed to support conversations and should be treated as unverified.
Can restarting Roku or reinstalling Hulu restore a missing recording?
It may help with a local app problem, but it cannot recreate a cloud recording that Hulu did not store or that disappeared from the service. Subscribers reported trying restarts and re-adding shows without a consistent solution.
Can an antenna DVR record Hulu programs?
No. An antenna DVR records broadcast signals received through an antenna. It can be an independent option for local NBC broadcasts where reception is adequate, but it cannot record Hulu, Peacock, Netflix, cable, satellite, or other streaming feeds.
