Hulk Hogan and Tom Cruise were both reported at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers–Dallas Cowboys playoff game on January 16, 2023. That shared sighting prompted speculation about Scientology, but the reports do not confirm that Cruise recruited Hogan, that the two had a private meeting, or that Hogan joined the church.
What happened at the game?
Coverage published between January 18 and January 23, 2023, reported that Hogan attended the Buccaneers–Cowboys playoff game in Tampa on January 16 and that Cruise was also there. Indy100 quoted former Scientologist Aaron Smith-Levin’s social-media post: “Tom Cruise and Hulk Hogan are together at the Cowboys-Bucs game right now. Another terrible sign.” Indy100 and SPORT1 reported the shared attendance; the available accounts do not establish that the men were seated together, photographed together, or spoke privately.
Where did the recruitment rumor come from?
Smith-Levin interpreted the reported sighting as another warning sign in a series of observations he connected to Scientology. The inference was his, not a confirmed account from Hogan, Cruise, or an official representative. ITR Wrestling likewise framed the question as whether Hogan had been recruited, rather than reporting a confirmed recruitment.
The coverage also described context Smith-Levin had raised about Hogan’s reported relationship with Sky Daily, whom he described as a second-generation Scientologist, and reports of Hogan posing for photographs with Scientologists or visiting Scientology-associated businesses in Clearwater. These details help explain why observers speculated; they do not establish Hogan’s religious affiliation.

Why Tom Cruise appears in Scientology coverage
Cruise’s public association with Scientology is longstanding. An Associated Press report republished by the Houston Chronicle in 2016 recalled a Scientology video featuring Cruise that Gawker published in 2008. That history helps explain why his presence became part of the speculation, but it is not evidence about Hogan or any recruitment attempt. Houston Chronicle / Associated Press

“Spotted with” can suggest direct contact, but the reporting supports the narrower claim that both men were at the same game. “Furthering recruitment rumors” describes speculation associated with Smith-Levin’s interpretation; it does not mean recruitment was verified. The Reddit discussion using the headline on January 19, 2023, shows how readers encountered the story, not independent proof of its claims. Reddit discussion
