Asked a similar question in a more reflective interview with Streets of Toronto in March 2023, he answered, “The secret for me is my wife.” He described Terry as patient and said he felt lucky to have her. He also joked that she might explain the marriage’s longevity by saying, “My wife says it’s because I’m always on the road.” These are Mandel’s own descriptions, not evidence of a universal formula for a lasting marriage.
How did Howie and Terry Mandel meet?
Mandel has said they met in high school in Toronto while waiting to buy French fries. He borrowed a quarter from Terry and later joked that he had been paying her back ever since. They married in Toronto in 1980. The March 2023 interview reports that they have three children.

What later reporting adds
A report published by PEOPLE on August 25, 2026 described Mandel’s account on Hoda Kotb’s Joy 101 podcast of a difficult period related to his OCD. According to that report, Terry told him she could not continue living with its effects unless he sought professional help. This is a later account attributed to Mandel; it should not be taken as a complete picture of the couple’s current relationship.
