YouTube monetization has two distinct entry points: eligible creators may reach an earlier tier for features such as memberships and Supers, while ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing require a higher threshold. Meeting either threshold does not guarantee approval or a set income. YouTube reviews the channel, applies separate rules to long-form and Shorts revenue, and can adjust estimated earnings.
What YouTube monetization includes
The YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is the route to monetization features, but “monetization” is not one payment system. Watch-page ads, Shorts Feed ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, and Supers have distinct eligibility and terms. YouTube’s help pages, accessed October 3, 2026, say that feature availability depends on the country or region and that individual feature requirements can vary. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for your channel’s actual status.
There are two relevant YPP milestones. The expanded YPP can provide earlier access to some fan-funding and Shopping features in eligible regions. The higher threshold is required for Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium revenue sharing.
Current eligibility thresholds
| Route | Subscriber and activity requirements | What it can unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP early access | 500 subscribers; 3 valid public uploads in the last 90 days; and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | Earlier access to features such as memberships, Supers, and Shopping where available. This is not the ad-revenue threshold. |
| Ad and YouTube Premium revenue sharing | 1,000 subscribers; and either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days. | Eligibility to apply for Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium revenue sharing, subject to review and the relevant modules. |
These are the current thresholds on YouTube’s official eligibility pages as accessed October 3, 2026; they are not universal guarantees of availability. For the official criteria, see YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility and expanded YPP access.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Which activity counts
- Watch-hour route: eligible hours come from public long-form videos. Shorts Feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000-hour threshold. Private, unlisted, and deleted videos, ad-campaign watch time, and Shorts watch time are excluded. Livestream hours are excluded if the stream is unlisted, deleted, or not converted to a video on demand.
- Shorts route: the threshold counts qualifying views from public Shorts in the Shorts Feed. Private, unlisted, and deleted Shorts, ad-campaign views, and image posts in the Shorts Feed do not count.
YouTube describes these as qualified hours and views; a channel’s raw analytics totals may therefore differ from the eligibility progress shown in Studio.
How to apply, and why reaching the numbers is not approval
- Open YouTube Studio and select Earn to check eligibility and start the application when available.
- Accept the base YPP terms and set up or link an active AdSense for YouTube account during signup.
- Meet the account and policy requirements: live in a YPP-available country or region, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, enable 2-Step Verification, and follow YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
- Wait for YouTube’s channel review. YouTube says automated systems and human reviewers assess the channel as a whole. Its eligibility page says review commonly takes about a month, but delays can occur.
Hitting the subscriber and activity numbers only makes a channel eligible to apply; it does not automatically place the channel in YPP. Review can consider the channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the share of watch time, metadata, and About section. YouTube may turn off monetization for channels with no upload or post for six months or more, according to its current eligibility page.

How the main revenue streams work
| Revenue type | Mechanism and published share | Terms to note |
|---|---|---|
| Watch-page ads | Creators receive 55% of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos’ watch pages. | Requires the Watch Page Monetization Module and enabled Watch Page Ads. YouTube says the share also applies when public videos play in its video player on other websites or apps. |
| Shorts Feed ads | Ads shown between Shorts contribute to a monthly pool. YouTube accounts for music licensing in calculating the Creator Pool, allocates the pool by creators’ eligible engaged-view share within each country, then creators receive 45% of their allocation. | Requires acceptance of the Shorts Monetization Module. Views accrued before acceptance are not eligible for revenue sharing under YouTube’s stated rules. |
| Memberships and Supers | For channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks, YouTube lists a 70% share of net revenue. | Requires the Commerce Product Module. These are fan-funding features, not ad revenue. |
| YouTube Premium | Revenue sharing is available as a separate YPP feature. | Eligibility and module terms apply; check the agreement in YouTube Studio for the channel’s terms. |
The percentages do not use the same base: the watch-page figure applies to net ad revenue, the Shorts figure to the creator’s country-level pool allocation, and the fan-funding figure to net revenue from the named features. They are published module shares, not a guaranteed amount per view. Details are in YouTube’s YouTube partner earnings overview and Shorts monetization policies.
Why Shorts earnings cannot be estimated from views alone
Shorts revenue is pooled rather than assigned as a fixed amount to each view. Country-level eligible engaged-view share and music use affect the allocation. YouTube’s Shorts help page includes a hypothetical illustration in which a creator with 1 million engaged views receives a $405 allocation after the creator share is applied, based on the example’s assumed country pool and music usage. That is YouTube’s illustration, not a typical rate or forecast for an actual channel.

Ads showing on a video do not prove the channel is earning
YouTube can serve ads on content under its Terms of Service. A channel that has not met the higher YPP criteria may therefore see ads without being eligible for a share of that ad revenue. An ad appearing before or during a video is not evidence by itself that its creator is being paid.
Policies that can affect approval and earnings
YPP review and continuing monetization depend on more than view totals. YouTube’s channel monetization policies expect original, authentic work and disallow content that is mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. Reused material can also create problems when a channel republishes or compiles other people’s content without meaningful original contribution.

- Review your channel as a whole, not just the video that brought in the most views; YouTube may assess themes, metadata, newest and most-viewed videos, watch-time share, and the About section.
- For Shorts, non-original republishing or compilations without original contribution, fake views, and views that do not meet advertiser-friendly guidelines can be ineligible.
- A Short longer than one minute that contains claimed content is blocked and is not eligible for monetization under YouTube’s current Shorts policy.
- Invalid traffic, Content ID claims and disputes, and certain campaign types can affect estimated revenue.

In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and select Revenue to see estimated revenue. Estimates can change after adjustments for invalid traffic, Content ID claims and disputes, or certain campaign types. YouTube says adjustments occur after about one week and again in the middle of the following month as finalized earnings are reflected. AdSense for YouTube is the primary payment method described in YouTube’s earnings overview.

Scheduled changes from February 1, 2027
YouTube has announced a future change, accessed October 3, 2026, that is scheduled to take effect February 1, 2027. For new creators seeking ad and YouTube Premium revenue, the announced entry requirement is 1,000 subscribers plus either 8,000 qualified watch hours in the previous 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. YouTube says creators already in YPP will not lose their status because of this entry-threshold update.
The announcement also covers new activity rules and says certain existing module terms must be accepted in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027, or the associated monetization features stop earning from February 1. These are announced future rules, not the current thresholds above; see YouTube’s YPP changes page for the current announcement.
Does 24/7 streaming make a channel eligible for monetization?
No. Streaming continuously does not replace YPP thresholds, turn unqualified hours into qualified public watch hours, or guarantee approval. For a documentary channel, a live stream still needs to comply with YouTube’s monetization policies, including originality and rights requirements; format alone does not make reused footage eligible. If you choose to keep a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud option: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube, so your computer does not have to stay on. It does not go live from a camera, and using it does not change YouTube’s eligibility or revenue rules.
