Do YouTubers get paid when someone joins with a channel membership free trial? Not for the free-trial month itself: the viewer pays nothing during that month, so it does not generate paid channel membership revenue from that viewer. If the viewer later becomes a paying member, YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after applicable local sales taxes and other fees are deducted.
This is about a free trial of a creator’s channel membership, not a YouTube Premium trial. They are separate offers with separate billing rules.
What a channel membership free trial means for earnings
YouTube describes channel membership trials as allowing a viewer to become a channel member free of charge for one month. Each viewer can redeem one such trial across creators on YouTube. The offer is made to eligible viewers, and creators can turn it off in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s membership levels and perks guidance explains the trial.
Because the viewer is not paying during that free month, the trial itself does not create paid channel membership revenue from that viewer. YouTube’s published revenue-share terms apply to membership revenue it recognizes; they do not establish a creator payment for the trial month.

What happens if the viewer keeps the membership?
If the viewer continues as a paying member after the trial, paid membership revenue may be recognized from the subsequent billing period. YouTube states that creators receive 70% of memberships revenue recognized by Google after local sales tax and other fees are deducted. YouTube currently covers payment processing fees, including credit-card fees. The channel member billing and payment guidance describes the share and deductions; the partner earnings overview describes the Commerce Product Module’s 70% share of net revenue for channel memberships and specified fan-funding features.
That 70% is not necessarily 70% of the displayed membership price. The calculation is based on revenue recognized by Google after relevant taxes and fees, which can vary by country or region and user platform. The creator’s agreement and accepted Commerce Product Module terms also govern. Without the viewer’s location, platform, applicable deductions, and recognized revenue, a displayed price alone is not enough to calculate a specific payout.

How to check membership earnings and manage trials
Review membership data
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics → Revenue → How you make money → Memberships to review membership data, as described in YouTube’s membership programme analytics guidance. YouTube also documents reporting for gifted memberships and redeemed gifts. Its guidance does not establish that channel membership trial activity appears as a separate analytics line item, so do not assume there is a dedicated trial-earnings figure.
Turn off channel membership trials
Creators can opt out of channel membership trials in the Memberships tab in YouTube Studio by switching off the relevant trial offer. YouTube’s membership levels and perks guidance covers the trial control. To earn channel membership revenue, the creator and any applicable MCN must accept the Commerce Product Module; YouTube’s channel memberships activation guidance covers turning memberships on or off.

Channel membership trials are not YouTube Premium trials
A channel membership trial gives an eligible viewer a free month of membership in a particular creator’s channel. A YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium trial is a separate subscription: its duration may vary, it requires a payment method, and it renews automatically at the current price unless canceled before the trial ends. Those Premium billing terms do not determine what a creator earns from channel memberships. See YouTube’s Premium trials and promotions guidance.

If you publish documentaries as a continuous YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate tool for keeping uploaded videos live 24/7; it does not change channel membership trial earnings. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery can resume the stream if YouTube drops it. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free day.
