First, search Home > Streaming Store or Search on your Roku TV for “Twitch.” If an official channel appears, install it through Roku; if it does not, the practical workaround is to play Twitch on a phone, tablet, or computer and mirror that screen to the TV. The steps depend on whether you use Android, Apple devices, or Windows.
Can you install Twitch directly on Roku TV?
Search the Roku Channel Store on the TV. Channel availability can vary by country, Roku model, account region, and platform changes. Current third-party coverage says an official Twitch channel is not listed, but Twitch and Roku have not provided a current confirmation of permanent removal in the sources available here. So check your own store rather than treating any one listing as universal.
- From the Roku home screen, open Streaming Store or Search.
- Search for Twitch.
- If an official Twitch app appears, select it and choose the normal install or add-channel option.
- If it does not appear, use mirroring or AirPlay below instead of relying on old channel-code instructions.
Twitch announced an official Roku channel on May 14, 2015, which is why older guides may describe a native app or activation code. That historical announcement does not establish that an old code or channel still works. Twitch’s 2015 Roku announcement is historical; for current availability, the Roku TV’s own store is the useful check.

Check compatibility first
Connect the Android device and Roku to the same Wi-Fi network. Roku says most current-generation Roku players and Roku TV models support screen mirroring; Android 10 or later is generally likely to support it, but device implementation varies and there are exceptions. Google-branded devices may lack the compatible mirroring function. On Android, the feature may be called Smart View, Quick Connect, SmartShare, AllShare Cast, Wireless display, Display mirroring, HTC Connect, or Screen casting. Roku’s screen-mirroring instructions list device-specific differences.

Connect and start a stream
- On Roku, open Settings > System > Screen mirroring. Menu wording may vary by software version or TV model.
- Set screen mirroring to Prompt for approval each time, or Always allow for a device you trust.
- On a Samsung phone, swipe down to Quick Settings and tap Smart View. On another Android device, open the manufacturer’s equivalent mirroring control.
- Select your Roku TV from the device list. If the TV asks, use the Roku remote to choose Allow or Always allow.
- Open the Twitch app or visit Twitch in a mobile browser, then start a stream.
Roku displays the whole Android screen, not just the video. Use the phone or tablet to play, pause, change streams, and seek; the Roku remote does not become a Twitch remote. Keep the device awake and in the desired orientation while watching. Twitch’s Android viewing help describes big-screen options including AirPlay or Chromecast, but that does not guarantee Roku-specific casting support.
Watch Twitch on iPhone or iPad with AirPlay
AirPlay requires a compatible Roku TV or Roku streaming device, both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, and AirPlay enabled on Roku. Not every Roku TV supports it. Roku’s version 14.5 user guide says AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are supported on Roku TVs except hardware IDs beginning with “6”; check Settings > System > About and your model’s specifications rather than assuming compatibility. - Open Twitch on your iPhone or iPad and start a stream. If an AirPlay control is available in the app, tap it and choose the Roku TV.
- If there is no in-app control, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and select the Roku TV.
- Enter the AirPlay code if the TV displays one.
- To disconnect, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then choose Stop Mirroring.
Roku documents AirPlay and screen mirroring for compatible Apple devices on its screen-mirroring support page. If Twitch’s in-app AirPlay behavior differs on your device, Control Center mirroring is the fallback.
Watch Twitch from a Mac
- Connect the Mac and Roku to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Open Twitch in a browser and sign in if needed.
- Open macOS Control Center, select Screen Mirroring, and choose the Roku TV.
- Approve the connection or enter the code shown on the TV, then put the stream in full-screen mode.
If the Roku does not appear, check that the TV supports AirPlay and that AirPlay is enabled under Settings > Apple AirPlay and HomeKit. Stop mirroring from the Mac’s Screen Mirroring controls when finished.

Watch Twitch from a Windows PC
- Connect the PC and Roku to the same wireless network.
- On Windows 11, press Win + K, choose Connect to a wireless display if prompted, and select the Roku TV.
- On Windows 10, open Action Center > Connect and select the Roku. Roku also notes that the wireless-display option may appear under Settings > System > Display > Connect to a wireless display.
- Approve the connection on the TV, open Twitch in a browser, and play the stream.
Roku’s screen-mirroring guide gives these Windows connection routes. The PC controls playback and chat; laptop sleep or network restrictions can interrupt the session.
Casting and screen mirroring are not the same
A cast button does not automatically mean a phone can send Twitch to Roku. Roku says casting requires support in the app and usually a matching Roku app or channel; mirroring instead displays the device screen. Roku’s casting support page explains the distinction.

If Twitch shows a cast icon but cannot find the Roku, switch to full-screen mirroring rather than assuming the generic cast control supports Roku.

Roku does not appear in the device list
- Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, not just connected to the same home internet service. Guest networks and client isolation can prevent discovery.
- Set Roku screen mirroring to Prompt or Always allow for Android or Windows connections.
- Restart the Roku TV and source device, then check for software updates on both.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or network-filtering software and try again.
- On Android, search for the manufacturer’s mirroring feature name. On Apple devices, check AirPlay compatibility; AirPlay and Android/Miracast-style mirroring are not interchangeable.
The TV repeatedly asks for permission
Choose Always allow only for a trusted device on a private network. Otherwise, select Allow each time. If you previously blocked the device, review or reset its mirroring permission in Roku settings.

Audio plays but the video is black, or playback buffers
- Stop mirroring and close Twitch, then reopen the app or browser and reconnect.
- Restart the Roku and source device.
- Try Twitch in a browser instead of the app, or the app instead of the browser.
- Temporarily lower the stream’s video quality and retest.
- If a VPN, ad blocker, or content filter is active, turn it off temporarily to check whether it is interfering.
Playback restrictions, an unstable wireless session, or device-specific AirPlay behavior can also cause a black video. Mirroring quality depends on Wi-Fi, the source device, and Roku hardware; it is not guaranteed to match a native app. No specific Twitch mirroring delay is established here, so expect that a live mirrored feed may lag behind another device, particularly on congested Wi-Fi.
Chat is too small or the stream is awkward to control
Chat and stream controls remain on the phone, tablet, or computer. Landscape orientation often gives the video more room, but chat may still be difficult to read from the couch. Keep a second device available for chat if you want the TV focused on the stream.
Wireless mirroring still fails: use HDMI
- Connect a computer to the Roku TV with an HDMI cable.
- Use the Roku remote to select the TV’s matching HDMI input.
- Open Twitch on the computer and play the stream there.
This uses the TV as an external display rather than as a Roku streaming feature, avoiding wireless discovery and AirPlay/Miracast compatibility issues.
Should you buy another streaming device?
Only consider new hardware if you want a dedicated, remote-controlled Twitch experience rather than mirroring, or if you need a broader streaming upgrade. Verify that Twitch is currently available in the device’s app store before buying; app availability changes, and adding another Roku player does not by itself establish native Twitch support. If your current Roku and a phone or computer work, mirroring requires no additional streaming service or device.
