Watch America Amended on The Root’s official YouTube channel. Search YouTube for The Root, open the channel page, and check its current uploads and any series playlist for the episodes.
The announced premiere was Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 12 p.m. Eastern, so that scheduled event has already passed. The announcement did not establish a continuing release timetable, regional availability, captions, or transcripts. Those details must be checked on the individual YouTube video pages.
Where to watch America Amended
The Root announced YouTube as the destination for America Amended, a six-episode documentary series hosted by journalist and author Trymaine Lee. There is no separately announced television outlet, movie-theater run, or competing authorized streaming service to choose between. The announcement also does not identify a special device or paid streaming subscription requirement.
Because the scheduled premiere date is now in the past, treat YouTube’s live channel listings—not the old premiere announcement—as the authority for what can be watched now. A premiere date confirms when the first event was planned; it does not prove that all six installments have been uploaded or that every episode is visible in every country.

How to find the series on YouTube
On a computer
- Go to YouTube and use the search field for
The Root America Amended. - Choose the result that leads to The Root’s official channel. Check the channel name before opening a video so that a repost, commentary clip, or unrelated account is not mistaken for the series.
- Open the channel’s Videos tab and look for an upload titled America Amended. If the channel has a Playlists tab or a playlist with the series name, open it; a playlist is the clearest way to see whether episodes have been grouped together.
- Select an episode to open its watch page. Read the title and description for the episode number, city, amendment, and any availability notes supplied by the channel.
On a phone or tablet
- Open the YouTube app or the YouTube website and search for
The Root America Amended. - Tap the result for The Root’s channel, then use the channel navigation to view its videos or playlists.
- Tap the series playlist if one is shown. Otherwise, open each matching upload from the channel’s video list and verify that it is an official upload.
- Use the player’s controls to select captions when a CC button is available. Caption and transcript availability was not stated in the announcement, so the absence of a CC button may simply mean that captions have not been provided for that video.
On a smart TV or streaming player
- Launch the YouTube app and search for the same phrase.
- Navigate to The Root’s channel rather than relying on an automatically recommended clip.
- Open the channel’s uploads or playlists and select the episode you want to watch.
- If typing with a remote is cumbersome, find the channel on a phone or computer first, then use the TV app’s history or account-synced search to locate the same official upload.
You do not need to assume that a paid service carries the program. The announced destination is The Root’s YouTube presence; any sign-in, device, or account behavior you encounter is a YouTube feature rather than a separate America Amended subscription plan.
What the announcement says about the series
America Amended is described as a six-episode docuseries about constitutional rights as experienced by Black Americans. Each installment pairs one constitutional amendment with a city and a cultural lens, following people and institutions that fought to make the rights in question real. The premise is not presented as a general civics lecture: it connects the text of constitutional promises with the circumstances in which people try to exercise them.
Ashley Allison, identified in the announcement as The Root’s publisher and Watering Hole Media’s founder, described the project this way: “America Amended reflects that ambition: rigorous storytelling that puts Black Americans at the center of the debate over this country’s promises and its future.”
The announcement names Trymaine Lee as host and journalist. It does not provide full episode synopses, running times, a transcript, or a guaranteed release pattern. Treat the city-and-amendment list below as the announced editorial map, not as a substitute for the descriptions attached to the finished videos.

Announced episode map
| City | Amendment | Announced lens |
|---|---|---|
| Detroit | First Amendment | Voice, expression, and the freedoms that allow communities to be heard. |
| Atlanta | Second Amendment | The right to keep and bear arms considered through questions of safety. |
| Milwaukee | Thirteenth Amendment | Freedom and abolition, including the amendment’s exception for punishment after criminal conviction. |
| Houston | Fourteenth Amendment | Citizenship and belonging. |
| Philadelphia | Fifteenth Amendment | Voting rights and political power. |
| Jackson, Mississippi | Nineteenth Amendment | Black women’s political agency and the struggle to exercise the right to vote. |
The amendment labels provide orientation for finding an episode, but they should not be read as detailed legal summaries of what each finished program contains. For example, the announcement’s description of Milwaukee specifically calls attention to the Thirteenth Amendment’s punishment exception; it does not claim that the episode is limited to one legal argument. Likewise, the Jackson description identifies Black women’s political agency as its lens without supplying a scene-by-scene synopsis.
How to check what is currently available
Start with the channel’s newest uploads and then check for a playlist named America Amended. If only one video is visible, that may reflect the release plan, the way the channel organizes its videos, or a restriction affecting your location; the announcement does not distinguish among those possibilities.
Open the description of each matching upload. A description may identify an episode number, provide a publication date, or explain whether the video is a replay of a scheduled premiere. Do not infer a weekly or otherwise continuing schedule unless The Root states one on the channel or on the video page.
If a scheduled event appears instead of a normal video, YouTube may show a countdown or reminder option. Once the event has ended, reload the channel’s uploads and playlist to look for the replay. A scheduled listing by itself is not evidence that all other episodes are already posted.

Captions, transcripts, and regional access
No announcement detail establishes whether the series has closed captions, translated subtitles, downloadable transcripts, or a transcript generated by YouTube. Check each video independently:
- Captions: Look for the CC control in the player. If it appears, open the caption settings and select from the languages offered for that video.
- Transcript: On a video page, open the expanded description or the More menu and look for Show transcript. The option appears only when YouTube or the uploader has supplied transcript data.
- Audio and playback: The player’s quality, speed, and audio controls are separate from caption availability. A video can play normally without offering a transcript.
- Location: If an episode is missing from your search results or displays an availability message, check the video page and channel again later. The announcement did not specify geographic rights, so it cannot establish whether a restriction is temporary, regional, or part of the release plan.
For accessibility, rely on the controls shown on the actual episode page rather than assuming every installment has identical options. Caption wording and language choices can also differ from one upload to another.
Troubleshooting when you cannot find an episode
Search shows clips or commentary instead of episodes
Open The Root’s channel from the search results, then browse the channel’s own Videos tab. Searching the exact series title can return interviews, trailers, or third-party discussions before it returns an official installment. A channel-level search is more reliable than choosing the first result.
The playlist is not visible
Use the channel’s uploads list and search within it for America Amended. Playlists can be unlisted, reorganized, or absent even when individual videos are public, and the announcement does not promise that a playlist will exist.

The premiere page has no playable video
Refresh the page and return to the channel’s current uploads. A scheduled premiere page can remain separate from the replay, or the channel may have changed how it presents the video. If no replay appears, the public announcement alone cannot establish whether the episode is delayed, unpublished, or unavailable in your region.
You cannot see captions or a transcript
Check the player for the CC button and the description or More menu for Show transcript. If neither control is present, there is no confirmed caption or transcript option to activate from that page. Try another episode only to determine whether accessibility options vary by upload; do not assume that one episode’s settings apply to the entire series.
Playback stops or the video will not load
- Reload the page or restart the YouTube app.
- Check whether other YouTube videos play on the same connection.
- Update the app or use a current browser if the player controls are missing.
- Return to the official channel after troubleshooting so that an old embed or repost is not mistaken for the current upload.
These steps address ordinary YouTube playback problems; they do not confirm the series’ release status or geographic rights.

The announced structure moves through the First, Second, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth, and Nineteenth Amendments. In broad terms, those amendments address expression and related freedoms; keeping and bearing arms; abolition of slavery and the punishment exception; citizenship and belonging; voting rights; and women’s voting rights. The series’ stated approach is to examine those constitutional promises through Black Americans’ experiences in Detroit, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Houston, Philadelphia, and Jackson, Mississippi.

Readers seeking Reconstruction-era context may want to consult Eric Foner’s The Second Founding: How the Civil War and Reconstruction Remade the Constitution. A DocumentaryTube explainer dated October 8, 2026 identifies the book as relevant background for the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendment episodes. It has not been announced as an official companion to America Amended and should not be treated as an endorsement by The Root or Watering Hole Media. Check the current edition and seller listing before buying.
What is and is not established
The series description and episode map come from a BroadwayWorld report dated October 7, 2026, which reproduced the announcement and identified The Root’s YouTube channel as the viewing destination. That material establishes the six-episode format, host, premise, city-and-amendment pairings, and announced premiere time.
It does not establish the current number of uploaded episodes, a continuing release schedule, regional access, captioning, transcripts, episode lengths, or detailed content beyond the announced lenses. For those questions, the official channel and the individual video pages are the appropriate places to check.
