Choose the lowest-friction route for your situation
| Your situation | Practical option | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You already subscribe to Peacock | Stream The Matrix on Peacock and rent the two sequels. At the listed $4.99 rental price for each, the rentals total $9.98 before tax. | You will make two additional rental transactions; the listed prices can change. |
| You want to watch tonight with minimal app switching | Check whether one store currently offers all three to rent, then use that retailer for the trilogy. | One app may be convenient but is not guaranteed to be the cheapest. |
| You want the lowest likely one-time rental cost | Compare the checkout prices for each title at Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. | Prices can differ by film, resolution, promotion, and account or device. |
| You expect to rewatch the films | Consider buying the digital films or a Blu-ray/4K disc edition. | Purchase costs more up front. Digital access is tied to the retailer account and supported devices; disc stock and prices vary. |
Peacock’s current plan page lists Premium at $10.99 per month or $109.99 per year and Premium Plus at $16.99 per month or $169.99 per year; Select is listed at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, but excludes movies. If you would subscribe solely for the first film, compare the plan cost with simply renting it. See Peacock’s plans for current terms. Premium is ad-supported; Premium Plus is described as ad-free with limited exclusions, and some live content or selected programming may still include ads.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Watch the original trilogy in release order
- The Matrix (1999): Meet Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity as the film introduces the franchise’s reality-versus-illusion premise.
- The Matrix Reloaded (2003): Continue with Neo and the human resistance as the conflict with the machines expands. JustWatch lists a runtime of 138 minutes.
- The Matrix Revolutions (2003): Complete the original trilogy’s central conflict. JustWatch lists a runtime of 129 minutes.
This is both the release order and the intended narrative sequence. Allow roughly six and a half hours for the three films without breaks; that is an approximate planning figure, since runtimes can vary slightly by edition or platform metadata. For the listed sequel runtimes, see the JustWatch pages for Reloaded and Revolutions.
Rental, digital purchase, 4K, or disc?
- Renting: Usually the economical choice for a single watch. Rental access is time-limited; check the specific retailer’s terms at checkout rather than assuming a fixed viewing window.
- Buying digitally: Better suited to repeat viewing than multiple rentals, but access remains connected to the store account and compatible devices.
- Choosing 4K: Some sequel listings show 4K, with Dolby Atmos and, on certain listings, Dolby Vision. Confirm the format on the exact listing and make sure your display, device, and audio setup support it; formats are not consistent across every store or device.
- Buying a disc: Blu-ray and DVD listings are available, and physical editions may appeal to collectors or viewers who want extras and a copy that does not depend on future streaming rights. Disc availability and pricing fluctuate.
For format and store options, check the current listings for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.

Do you need to watch The Animatrix?
No. The Animatrix is an anthology of animated shorts that adds history and world-building, but it is not required to follow the three live-action films. It is an optional extra after The Matrix or before Reloaded if you want more context. See its JustWatch listing for current U.S. availability.
What about The Matrix Resurrections?
The Matrix Resurrections is the fourth feature, released in 2021, not part of the original three-film catch-up. Watch it after Revolutions if you want to continue with the franchise. Its U.S. listing is separate from those of the trilogy.

Check the listing before you press play
- Confirm that the listing is for the intended film: the 1999 The Matrix, not Resurrections, The Animatrix, or an extra.
- Look for whether the offer says included with a subscription, rent, or buy. Having the Apple TV or Prime Video app does not by itself include every film shown there.
- Check the country set on your store account. These availability details apply to the United States and do not establish availability in other countries.
- Compare resolution, audio format, and price on the exact version before checkout. If a title is missing, search for it directly in the retailer’s app, verify the account region, then compare another listed store.
- If renting across multiple services, note the expiration terms shown at checkout so you can plan the viewing session.
Apple’s U.S. Apple TV page distinguishes its subscription catalog from third-party services and content available for separate rental or purchase. Free-search results and trials are not confirmation that a legal, unrestricted free stream is available: the checked listings show no free option for Reloaded, and The Matrix requires Peacock Premium or Premium Plus rather than an unrestricted free tier.
