Watch the four films in release order: I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025). In the latest U.S. availability check, the first three were mainly rent-or-buy or physical-media titles; the 2025 legacy sequel/reboot hybrid was streaming on Netflix.
The 2025 film is not a wholly separate remake. It brings in new characters while connecting back to the earlier Southport story, making the original films useful setup for a rewatch.
The four-film watch order
Watch the films in release order: 1997 → 1998 → 2006 → 2025. That sequence introduces the original Southport story before moving through the theatrical sequel, the direct-to-video third film, and the new legacy-sequel/reboot hybrid.
- I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
- I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
- I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)
- I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
The 2025 film is not a completely unrelated remake. It brings in a new group of friends while connecting back to the earlier Southport story and returning franchise figures. Watching the older films first makes those connections easier to recognize, even though the 2006 installment follows a different group of characters.

Where to watch the I Know What You Did Last Summer films in the U.S.
The availability below reflects U.S. listings checked in June and July 2026. The first three films were primarily showing as rent-or-buy titles rather than dependable subscription-streaming picks. The 2025 film is the straightforward subscription option in this snapshot.
| Film | Subscription streaming | Digital rental or purchase | Physical media |
|---|---|---|---|
| I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) | No free U.S. streaming option was shown in the check. | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home | DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD |
| I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) | No stable subscription option was established. | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home | DVD and Blu-ray |
| I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) | Not a dependable subscription-streaming pick in the check. | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home | DVD and Blu-ray |
| I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) | Netflix | Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home | DVD and Blu-ray listings |
1. I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
The original is the essential starting point. Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe, and Johnny Galecki play four teenagers who conceal their role in a fatal roadside accident. A year later, someone begins stalking them with a message about what they did that summer.
The original is the tricky one: it was not showing a free U.S. streaming option when checked, but you can rent or buy it digitally through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, or Fandango At Home. Sony also lists the film in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. For a physical-media upgrade, the I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) 4K Ultra HD edition is the clearest choice for viewers planning to keep the film rather than pay for another rental.
Because the 1997 and 2025 films have nearly identical titles, include the year when searching. A generic retailer result for I Know What You Did Last Summer can easily take you to the wrong movie.
Rank #2
2. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
The theatrical sequel continues the franchise’s revenge premise after the events of the 1997 film. It belongs immediately after the original in a first-time or rewatching marathon.
In the U.S. availability check, the 1998 sequel was available to rent or buy digitally through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. DVD and Blu-ray copies were also listed. No stable subscription-streaming home was established, so it is safer to plan on a one-time rental, digital purchase, or physical disc rather than subscribing to a service specifically for this film.
3. I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006)
The third film is a direct-to-video installment with a new group of characters. It is still the third release in the film series, so release order places it here even though it does not simply continue the same character lineup from the first two movies.
This is another rent-or-buy title in the U.S. rather than a dependable subscription-streaming selection. The researched listings showed digital rental and purchase options through Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home. Sony lists the film as available on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD, and retailer listings also showed DVD and Blu-ray options.

Do not assume that the four films are sold together as a complete box set. The availability check supports separate digital and physical options, but not a blanket claim that a franchise collection is available from every retailer.
4. I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)
Save the 2025 film for last. Although it is often called the reboot, it is more precisely a legacy sequel/reboot hybrid: it introduces a new group of friends while linking the story to the earlier Southport events and franchise figures.
If you want to skip another rental fee, the 2025 film is currently streaming on Netflix in the United States. Netflix’s Tudum listing confirms its availability, and the U.S. listings checked for this guide also showed Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, and Fandango At Home as digital rental or purchase options. DVD and Blu-ray listings were available as physical alternatives.
Search for the year before pressing play. The 2025 title shares almost the exact wording of the 1997 original, so a retailer or streaming-service search without the year can return the wrong entry.

- The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords are scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they enlist the help of Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.
What about the 2021 TV series?
In other words, do not insert the 2021 series between the 1998, 2006, and 2025 films. Watch it afterward only if you want a separate television take on the property.
Best way to plan the marathon
- Want the story context first? Start with the 1997 original and continue in release order.
- Trying to avoid multiple rental charges? Check whether you already have access to the 2025 film through Netflix, then decide whether the older films are worth renting or buying individually.
- Prefer discs? The original has the broadest physical-format choice, including 4K Ultra HD, while the 1998 and 2006 films were listed on DVD and Blu-ray.
- Searching a retailer? Put the release year in every search: “1997,” “1998,” “2006,” or “2025.”
- Watching outside the U.S.? Do not assume these results apply to your country. Licensing, prices, rental windows, and physical inventory vary by market.
Availability caveat
Streaming catalogs and digital storefront listings change frequently. The 1997 availability was checked July 29, 2026; the 2025 listing was checked July 28, 2026; the 2006 listing was checked June 24, 2026; and the 1998 listing was recently crawled in July 2026. Prices, free-trial terms, catalog windows, and disc inventory may be different when you read this, so confirm the title, year, and final rental or purchase price before subscribing or paying.
