1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo watch The Ashes 2025–26 highlights, open BBC iPlayer in the UK and search for “The Ashes” or the relevant Test. Select the highlights, extended-highlights or Daily Debrief episode if it is still available. The series ended in January 2026, so this is now an archive guide: not every programme is necessarily still in the catalogue.
How to watch the Ashes 2025–26 highlights on BBC iPlayer
In the UK, search BBC iPlayer for “The Ashes” and choose the relevant 2025–26 highlights or extended-highlights programme. BBC iPlayer is free to use at the point of access, but you need a valid UK TV Licence to watch or download BBC programmes on iPlayer.
There is an important date qualification: the men’s 2025–26 Ashes was completed in January 2026. This is therefore an on-demand and archive guide, not a live-series viewing guide. BBC Sport confirmed that Ashes specials, extended daily highlights and a Daily Debrief were made available on iPlayer during the series, but that does not guarantee that every episode remains in the catalogue now. Check the current listing and expiry information before relying on a particular programme.
Quick instructions
- Open BBC iPlayer from the UK.
- Search for The Ashes. If the search is too broad, try the relevant Test or terms such as Ashes highlights and extended highlights.
- Choose a 2025–26 highlights episode rather than a live-stream listing. Depending on what remains available, the catalogue may show daily highlights, extended highlights, a Test highlights programme or a Daily Debrief.
- Sign in to a BBC account if iPlayer asks you to do so.
- Check the programme page for its availability or expiry information, then select Play.
If no 2025–26 episode appears, it may have expired or been removed from the current iPlayer catalogue. BBC Sport’s Ashes pages may still provide match reports and individual clips, but they are not a guarantee that the complete highlights programmes remain available.

Is it really free?
BBC iPlayer does not charge a separate subscription fee for these programmes. However, “free” does not mean that the content is free of all conditions. In the UK, you must be covered by a TV Licence to watch or download BBC programmes on iPlayer, including on-demand content. The requirement applies whether you use a television, laptop, desktop computer, phone, tablet or another compatible device.
The licence requirement applies to on-demand highlights as well as live television. Do not assume that avoiding the live stream removes the requirement.
Where are the Ashes highlights available?
The relevant BBC Sport highlights page was marked as available to UK users only. BBC iPlayer programmes cannot currently be streamed or downloaded while you are abroad, according to TV Licensing guidance.
That means the practical answer is:
- In the UK: search BBC iPlayer and check the current archive listing.
- Outside the UK: BBC iPlayer is not an official viewing route for these programmes.
- VPNs: do not treat a VPN as an authorised way to bypass BBC geographic restrictions or the TV-Licence rules.
Do not promise that the highlights can be watched “from anywhere”, “worldwide” or “without a licence”. Those claims would be misleading.

What Ashes 2025–26 highlights should you look for?
The series was a five-Test Australia–England contest. Australia won the fifth Test in Sydney and finished with a 4–1 series victory. During the series, BBC Sport described a schedule that included:
- Ashes specials on BBC iPlayer after each Test
- Extended daily highlights
- A Daily Debrief after each day’s play
- Highlights from the fifth Test, including a day-five programme
The exact names and availability of programmes can change after a series ends. Search by the match or Test number if “The Ashes” alone does not return the episode you want.
How to watch BBC iPlayer on a television
You can use BBC iPlayer through a compatible smart TV, games console, computer connected to a television, mobile device or streaming device. The device must support the current BBC iPlayer app or website; having an internet connection alone is not enough.
An Amazon Fire TV Stick may be a convenient option for moving iPlayer viewing from a laptop or phone to a television, but compatibility should be checked for the specific current model and UK setup before buying. BBC device information available for this research confirms historical Fire TV and Fire TV Stick support, but it is dated and should not be treated as a guarantee for every present-day model.
A streaming stick does not make BBC iPlayer available outside the UK and does not remove the TV-Licence requirement. It is only a way to access a supported app on a compatible television.

What to do if the programme will not play
The Ashes episode does not appear in search
Try searches for the individual Test, “extended highlights” or “Daily Debrief”. If the episode still does not appear, it may no longer be available. Look at BBC Sport’s Ashes coverage for reports and any clips that remain online.
The programme says it is unavailable in your location
BBC iPlayer video is intended for UK access. Check that you are physically in the UK and that your connection is not being identified as outside the UK. Do not use a VPN to try to circumvent the restriction.
iPlayer asks about a TV Licence
That is expected. A UK TV Licence is required to watch or download BBC programmes on iPlayer, including on-demand highlights. Answer the service’s licence prompts accurately and make sure your household is properly covered.

Check that the device is supported by the current BBC iPlayer app, that its software is up to date and that it is configured for the UK. The episode has expired
There is no reliable workaround that restores an expired iPlayer programme. Check BBC Sport for match reports, scorecards and clips, and search other legitimate broadcasters or rights holders in your region for any officially available replay or highlights package.
Bottom line
The 2025–26 Ashes highlights were offered on BBC iPlayer for UK viewers and were free at the point of use, but they were never “free worldwide” or exempt from TV-Licence rules. Because the series ended in January 2026, search BBC iPlayer now for the relevant highlights episode and check its expiry status. If it is no longer listed, use BBC Sport’s remaining archive coverage rather than relying on an unofficial or region-bypassing service.
