The most direct official way to watch the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards without cable in the United States is Paramount+. CBS and MTV have announced that the ceremony will air live on CBS and MTV and stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
The 2026 VMAs are scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Eastern / 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Pacific, live from Los Angeles. Because streaming plans, channel lineups and event details can change before September, check the official listings again shortly before the show.
When are the 2026 MTV VMAs?

Best option: stream the MTV VMAs on Paramount+
Paramount+ is the clearest cable-free option because the official 2026 announcement specifically names it as the service carrying the live and on-demand stream. That is more reliable than assuming that a service that carried MTV in a previous year will necessarily carry the 2026 ceremony.
Paramount+’s current subscription page lists plans starting at $8.99 per month and includes MTV programming. It also distinguishes between Essential and Premium plans and describes live CBS access. Since prices, plan features and live-event eligibility may change before September 2026, verify which current plan includes the live VMAs before subscribing.

How to watch the VMAs with Paramount+
- Create or sign in to your Paramount+ account.
- Review the current plan details. Confirm that the plan you select includes live access to the event rather than relying on an older price or plan description.
- Install the Paramount+ app on your supported smart TV, streaming player, phone, tablet, game console or web browser.
- Sign in before show night and make sure your subscription is active.
- When the broadcast begins, search for “MTV Video Music Awards” or open the live CBS or VMAs listing in the Paramount+ app.
Paramount+ lists support for platforms including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Samsung devices, along with other supported televisions and mobile platforms. Check the service’s current device list if you are unsure whether your equipment is compatible.
Do you need a streaming device?
No. If your television already supports the Paramount+ app, or if you plan to watch on a computer, phone, tablet or compatible game console, you do not need extra hardware.
If your TV lacks the app, an optional Roku streaming device can add access to Paramount+ and other streaming services. Paramount+ lists Roku among its supported device families. Install and test the app before the event rather than waiting until the live broadcast starts.
A streaming player is useful only when your existing equipment does not provide a convenient way to run Paramount+. It is not a requirement for watching the VMAs, and the right choice may instead be a Fire TV device, Apple TV, Chromecast or another platform already compatible with your television.
Can you watch the VMAs through Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, YouTube TV or Sling TV?
Possibly, but these should be treated as alternatives to verify rather than guaranteed 2026 destinations.

Hulu’s MTV guide says that MTV is included for Hulu + Live TV subscribers. Fubo, YouTube TV and Sling TV have also appeared in previous VMA viewing coverage, with MTV availability depending on the service and package. However, channel lineups, local CBS coverage, package names, prices and regional availability can change.

If you already pay for one of these services, check all of the following before the event:
- Whether your current package includes MTV.
- Whether the service carries your local CBS station.
- Whether MTV or CBS is available at your address and ZIP code.
- Whether the service lists the 2026 VMAs in its live guide.
- Whether any required package or add-on has changed.
Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, YouTube TV and Sling TV may make sense for viewers who want a broader cable replacement, but Paramount+ remains the directly confirmed streaming destination in the 2026 event announcement.
For a current example of MTV’s availability, see Hulu’s MTV guide. Treat that information as a starting point and verify the live lineup for your location before paying.

What has not been announced yet?
The initial 2026 announcement says that additional information will be released later. As a result, the following details should not be treated as confirmed unless a later official announcement verifies them:

One-click scans. No signup required.
- The 2026 host.
- Performers and presenters.
- Nominees and winners.
- The red-carpet or pre-show schedule.
- International streaming rights.
- A dedicated free streaming broadcast.
- A Paramount+ free trial, discount or specific qualifying offer.
The official MTV VMAs event page currently includes 2025 material and past clips, including references to watching on Paramount+, but it does not replace the official 2026 CBS and Paramount Press Express announcement for the confirmed date and streaming destination.
How to prepare before September 27
- Confirm the time zone. The live program starts at 7:30 p.m. Eastern, 6:30 p.m. Central, 5:30 p.m. Mountain and 4:30 p.m. Pacific.
- Choose the service. For a new subscription, start by checking Paramount+’s current live-event and plan information. If you already have live TV, check its MTV and CBS listings.
- Install the app early. Download Paramount+ or your chosen service to the television or streaming player before event night.
- Test your login. Sign in, confirm the subscription and make sure the app opens normally.
- Update the app and device. Pending software updates can cause avoidable playback or login problems.
- Check your internet connection. Use a stable connection and, where possible, place the streaming device within a reliable Wi-Fi range or use a wired connection.
- Check the listing again on the day. Search the app for “MTV Video Music Awards” and look for the live event or CBS listing.
What if the stream does not appear?
Paramount+ does not show the event
First, confirm that you are using the U.S. version of the service and that your subscription is active. Check the plan’s current live-event terms, restart or update the app, and search both the VMAs title and the live CBS channel listing. If the official event page or Paramount+ listing has been updated, follow the current instructions rather than an older guide.
Your live-TV service does not show MTV
Check the package and your ZIP-code availability. MTV may not be included in every tier, and local CBS access can vary by market. If the service does not carry the required channel, Paramount+ is the more direct confirmed option for the U.S. event.

Your television cannot run the app
Watch in a web browser or on a phone, tablet or game console, or connect a compatible streaming player such as Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV or Chromecast. Confirm compatibility before purchasing hardware.
Are free VMA streams legitimate?
Be cautious with websites promising a free, unauthorized “VMA stream.” The official event information identifies Paramount+ as the authorized U.S. streaming destination. Unofficial sites may expose viewers to deceptive advertising, malware, phishing pages or poor-quality streams, and they can disappear during the broadcast.
Use Paramount+, an established live-TV streaming provider with the required channel lineup, or an official CBS/MTV broadcast listing. Do not enter payment or login details into a site that is not an official service or recognized provider.
