How March Madness Live worked
- Open the official March Madness Live website, or use the official March Madness app on a supported phone, tablet, streaming device, or smart-TV platform.
- Choose the CBS Final Four game from the live-games listing.
- If the stream starts without requesting credentials, you could watch the CBS feed online at no additional charge.
- If the service displayed a TV-provider authentication screen, you needed an eligible pay-TV or live-TV subscription to continue.
The NCAA announced that all 67 games of the 2025 men’s tournament were available through March Madness Live. Contemporary coverage differed on the precise CBS authentication requirement: Engadget reported that CBS-carried games could be viewed free through the March Madness website and mobile apps, while Fortune advised that some viewers needed a TV-provider username and password.

That difference is important. The most accurate answer is not “everybody could stream the Final Four free with no account.” It is: March Madness Live was the official no-cost route to try for CBS games, but device, platform, or access rules could require authentication.
The most dependable no-subscription fallback: an antenna
If March Madness Live requested a TV login, the clearest no-monthly-fee alternative was to receive the local CBS affiliate over the air with a compatible digital antenna. This is free broadcast television—not free internet streaming—so it would let you watch on a television rather than automatically stream the game to a phone or laptop.
An indoor digital TV antenna can be practical for viewers whose homes receive a strong local CBS signal. Reception depends on your address, distance from the transmitter, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and the quality of the local broadcast signal. The FCC recognizes over-the-air television as free broadcast programming; its materials also note that viewers may need to rescan their televisions after station-frequency changes. If a channel does not appear, connect the antenna securely, select the television’s channel-scan or auto-tune function, and run a new scan. Moving the antenna near a window or higher on the wall may help, but no antenna works equally well at every address.
Paid and trial-based online alternatives
These services were possible alternatives for viewers who had CBS access through a subscription, but they should not be presented as universally free:
- Paramount+: CBS’s streaming service was identified as carrying CBS games in the 2025 NCAA programming plan. A limited trial was reported by contemporary coverage, but trial eligibility, duration, pricing, and cancellation rules were subject to change. It was not a guaranteed free option.
- Live-TV streaming services: Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, DIRECTV STREAM, and Fubo were among the services reported as carrying broadcast CBS in eligible markets. Local-channel availability, plan prices, free trials, and regional restrictions vary, so each service would have needed to be checked by ZIP code before signing up.
For a future tournament, confirm the current rights holder and local-channel availability rather than assuming that a service that carried CBS in 2025 will offer the same access later.

Services that were not the right answer
Max was not the correct service for the 2025 men’s Final Four. In 2025, Max carried games shown on TBS, TNT, and truTV, while the Final Four games were on CBS. The NCAA’s official programming announcement describes the division of tournament coverage.
Amazon Prime Video was not a destination for the 2025 NCAA Tournament games. Do not subscribe to Prime Video expecting it to provide the men’s Final Four based on this event.
Unauthorized mirror sites and restreams were also poor substitutes. They may violate copyright law, disappear during the game, expose visitors to aggressive advertising or malware, and provide an unreliable picture. The official NCAA, CBS, and authorized provider streams were the safer legal choices.
Do not confuse the men’s and women’s Final Four
This schedule applies to the 2025 men’s NCAA Division I basketball tournament: CBS, the Alamodome in San Antonio, and the April 5 and April 7 dates. The women’s Final Four was a separate event in Tampa, Florida, with different dates, teams, venue, and broadcast arrangements. The NCAA women’s tournament schedule should be used for that event.
