The best free option was local FOX with an antenna
Because FOX broadcast the game nationally, viewers in range of a local FOX affiliate could watch without a monthly streaming subscription by connecting an indoor HDTV antenna to a television. This was free after the one-time hardware purchase—not a free internet stream.
Reception depended on location, building construction, antenna placement, and the strength of the local FOX signal. Before buying equipment, check which FOX affiliate serves your ZIP code. An indoor antenna may work well near a broadcasting tower, while viewers farther away or blocked by hills, dense buildings, or other obstacles may need a better-positioned antenna or a different reception solution. A coaxial cable is normally required if one is not included with the antenna.

Basic antenna setup
- Connect the antenna to the television’s coaxial antenna input.
- Open the TV’s channel setup menu and select Antenna, Air, or Broadcast rather than Cable.
- Run an automatic channel scan.
- Place the antenna near a window or as high as practical, then scan again if FOX does not appear.
- Confirm that the channel is the local FOX affiliate before the broadcast begins.
This option is useful for future nationally televised NFL games as well, but an antenna does not guarantee access to every game. Local broadcast rights, the market’s affiliate, and the game’s national network still determine what appears over the air.

NFL+ was a historical streaming option, not a permanent free service
The Packers’ official January 2024 viewing guide listed NFL+ with a 7-day free trial and described access to live local games at that time. That offer should be treated as historical. NFL+ trial length, pricing, supported devices, blackout rules, and live-game availability can change, so the 2024 guide cannot establish that the same free trial or access exists now.
If you are researching NFL+ for a current or future game, verify the offer directly through the NFL before signing up. Pay particular attention to whether the game is available on the device you intend to use and whether a subscription automatically continues after the trial. NFL+ should not be described as a free permanent replacement for a television broadcast.
Packers.com offered free radio, but not free video
For listeners rather than viewers, Packers.com said it would stream the team’s official radio broadcast worldwide to desktop users. Mobile listening was subject to NFL broadcast restrictions and was limited to the Packers’ home market. The radio stream was an audio alternative; it did not provide live video of the game.

Do not confuse this game with the Peacock-exclusive Wild Card matchup
Some playoff-streaming articles point readers to Peacock because the previous season’s Miami–Kansas City Wild Card game was Peacock-exclusive. That was a different game. The NFL’s distribution announcement identifies Miami–Kansas City as the exclusive streaming Wild Card game from the prior season and says a different exclusive Wild Card game was assigned to Prime Video for the 2024 season. The Packers–Cowboys game itself was carried by FOX, as confirmed by the Packers’ official viewing information.
In other words, Peacock was not the correct destination for this particular Packers–Cowboys broadcast merely because another recent playoff game had appeared there. The network and distribution rules must be checked for the specific matchup.
What about free trials from live-TV streaming services?
Services such as YouTube TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Sling, and DIRECTV STREAM sometimes carry local FOX affiliates or advertise introductory trials. However, the available research for this historical game confirms only that FOX was the broadcaster; it does not verify a particular provider’s January 14, 2024 trial, price, local-channel coverage, or eligibility in every market.
It would therefore be misleading to promise that any one of those services was free for this game. A legitimate current check would require all of the following:

- Confirmation that the service carried the viewer’s local FOX affiliate in the relevant ZIP code.
- Confirmation that a trial was available on the signup date.
- Review of the trial’s end date, billing terms, and cancellation process.
- Verification that the intended television, phone, browser, or streaming device was supported.
For a historical article, the antenna and official radio options are the defensible free paths. A paid live-TV trial should be presented only when its archived offer and local availability can be verified.
Avoid unauthorized “free” sports streams
Unofficial mirror sites, pirate IPTV services, social-media restreams, and suspicious pop-up-heavy sports pages are not legitimate viewing options. They can disappear during the event, provide poor or misleading video, expose visitors to malware and deceptive advertising, and potentially infringe copyright. They also offer no reliable way to verify that a stream is actually the Packers–Cowboys game.
Use local FOX, a verified official service, or official team radio instead. Never install an unknown player or browser extension simply to watch a supposedly free game.

The NFL’s official game materials include the final score, team statistics, scoring plays, and play-by-play. Packers.com also maintains official game-center and postgame coverage, including available highlights and related reporting. Those resources are the appropriate destination for readers who arrived after the live broadcast and want to verify the result or find short-form replay coverage.

Can I still watch Packers vs. Cowboys live for free?

The legitimate free options identified for the 2024 broadcast were local FOX over the air with an antenna and official Packers radio. The antenna option required hardware, and the radio option provided audio rather than video.
