Those labels differ between platforms and countries, while the episode numbers remain consistent.
For a first viewing, start at Episode 1 and continue through the current anime. The main story now runs from the East Blue Saga to the Elbaph Arc, which begins with Episode 1156. The movies, recap specials, Netflix adaptations, and the Fish-Man Island re-edit are separate viewing options rather than required steps.

The correct first-time viewing order
- Watch Episodes 1–53.
- Continue through Episode 130.
- Continue through Episode 516, including the major Water 7, Summit War, and timeskip material.
- Continue through Episode 750.
- Continue through Episode 889.
- Watch Episodes 890–1085 to complete Wano Country.
- Watch Episodes 1086–1155, covering Egghead.
- Start Episode 1156 and continue into Elbaph.
This is the simplest correct route. You do not need to insert a movie between every saga, and you do not need to follow the season numbers shown by Netflix, Crunchyroll, or another service.
If you want to skip filler, use the filler section below rather than skipping random episodes. Some episodes contain a mixture of manga-based and original material.

One Piece anime order by saga and arc
The following is the practical story order. Episode ranges with gaps indicate filler or crossover material between the listed story arcs.

| East Blue | Romance Dawn | 1–3 |
| East Blue | Orange Town | 4–8 |
| East Blue | Syrup Village | 9–18 |
| East Blue | Baratie | 19–30 |
| East Blue | Arlong Park | 31–44 |
| East Blue | Loguetown | 45, 48–53 |
| Arabasta | Reverse Mountain | 62–63 |
| Arabasta | Whisky Peak | 64–67 |
| Arabasta | Little Garden | 70–77 |
| Arabasta | Drum Island | 78–91 |
| Arabasta | Arabasta | 92–130 |
| Sky Island | Jaya | 144–152 |
| Sky Island | Skypiea | 153–195 |
| Sky Island | G-8 | 196–206 |
| Water 7 | Long Ring Long Land | 207–219 |
| Water 7 | Water 7 | 229–263 |
| Water 7 | Enies Lobby | 264–312 |
| Water 7 | Post-Enies Lobby | 313–325 |

| Summit War | Marineford | 457–489 |
| Summit War | Post-War | 490–491, 493–516 |
| Fish-Man Island | Return to Sabaody | 517–522 |
| Fish-Man Island | Fish-Man Island | 523–541, 543–574 |
| Dressrosa | Punk Hazard | 579–589, 591–625 |
| Dressrosa | Dressrosa | 629–746 |
| Whole Cake Island | Zou | 751–779 |
| Whole Cake Island | Whole Cake Island | 783–877 |
| Whole Cake Island | Reverie | 878–889 |
| Wano | Wano Country | 890–894, 897–906, 908–1028, 1031–1085 |
| Final Saga | Egghead | 1086–1155 |
| Final Saga | Elbaph | 1156 onward |
Arc names are commonly used guide labels rather than an official streaming-season system. The important reference points are the episode numbers.
A faster route: which filler can be skipped?
Filler is optional material produced for the anime rather than adapted directly from the manga. Skipping it will not remove the central manga-based story, although some viewers enjoy the extra crew adventures and world-building.
| Episodes | Filler material |
|---|---|
| 54–61 | Warship Island |
| 131–135 | Post-Arabasta |
| 136–138 | Goat Island |
| 139–143 | Ruluka Island |
| 196–206 | G-8 |
| 220–228 | Ocean’s Dream and Foxy’s Return |
| 326–336 | Ice Hunter and Chopper Man |
| 382–384 | Spa Island |
| 426–429 | Little East Blue |
| 575–578 | Z’s Ambition |
| 626–628 | Caesar Retrieval |
| 747–750 | Silver Mine |
| 780–782 | Marine Rookie |
| 895–896 | Cidre Guild |
| 907 | 20th-anniversary special |
| 1029–1030 | Uta’s Past |
G-8, Episodes 196–206, is a notable exception for many viewers: it is filler, but it is often praised as one of the anime’s strongest original arcs. It is safe to skip, not necessarily wise to skip.

Do not treat every episode marked “mixed” as disposable. An episode can contain anime-original scenes while still introducing or advancing story material that matters later.
Where the movies fit
The theatrical films are optional. They are generally standalone adventures, alternate versions of events, or stories that use characters and ideas from the main series without forming required continuity. Watch them after the relevant episode point if you want to reduce spoilers.
| Film | Suggested point |

| One Piece: The Movie | After Episode 18 |

| The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle | After Episode 228 |
| Episode of Alabasta | After Episode 130; recap only |

There are 15 theatrical films in the catalog as of August 2026. If you want to watch the films as their own collection, release order is the least confusing option:
- One Piece: The Movie (2000)
- Clockwork Island Adventure (2001)
- Chopper’s Kingdom on the Island of Strange Animal Island (2002)
- Dead End Adventure (2003)
- The Cursed Holy Sword (2004)
- Baron Omatsuri and the Secret Island (2005)
- The Giant Mechanical Soldier of Karakuri Castle (2006)
- Episode of Alabasta: The Desert Princess and the Pirates (2007)
- Episode of Chopper Plus: Bloom in the Winter, Miracle Sakura (2008)
- One Piece Film: Strong World (2009)
- One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (2011)
- One Piece Film: Z (2012)
- One Piece Film: Gold (2016)
- One Piece: Stampede (2019)
- One Piece Film: Red (2022)
The safest order for the major films
Stampede is sometimes recommended immediately after Episode 750 because of its promotional timing. That can reveal later crew members and powers, so Episode 896 is a safer minimum.
Rank #3
Film: Red has direct promotional tie-ins in Episodes 1029–1030. However, the film also displays later character designs, abilities, and statuses. Watching it after Episode 1085, the end of Wano, provides better spoiler protection.
Strong World is best placed after Thriller Bark, with Episodes 426–429 watched beforehand if you want its related promotional material. Film: Gold follows the Silver Mine tie-in episodes and works best after Episode 750.
Optional specials and recap episodes
These programs are not required for a first viewing, and recap specials should not replace the original episodes. They condense major events and leave out character development and connective scenes.
- Episode of Nami: after Episode 44.
- Episode of East Blue: after Episode 53.
- Episode of Merry: after Episode 312.
- 3D2Y: after Episode 516.
- Episode of Sabo: after Dressrosa, around Episode 746.
- Heart of Gold: before Film: Gold.
- Episode of Skypiea: after Episode 195.
- One Piece Fan Letter: after the timeskip material, preferably after Episode 516.
Where the current anime stands
The anime resumed after a three-month production hiatus on April 5, 2026, with Elbaph beginning at Episode 1156. The revised production structure limits the series to a maximum of 26 episodes per year, divided into two cours.
Rank #4
According to the supplied August 2026 release information, Episode 1172 was the latest released episode on August 8, with Episode 1173 scheduled for August 9 in the United States. Release dates, subtitles, dubs, and catalog availability vary by country.
On the Crunchyroll website, the release calendar is found at Categories → Release Calendar. Crunchyroll says the calendar is available on its website rather than in the mobile app.

- Netflix’s live-action ONE PIECE: a separate adaptation. Its second season, ONE PIECE: Into the Grand Line, premiered on March 10, 2026.
- THE ONE PIECE: Netflix’s new anime remake, also separate from Toei’s long-running series. It adapts the manga’s opening East Blue material and is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
- One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga: a re-edited and re-animated version of the Fish-Man Island story, not a continuation after Episode 1155.
You can watch these separately, but none belongs between Episodes 1155 and 1156.
FAQ
Do I have to watch every One Piece movie?
No. The theatrical films are optional and are not needed to understand the main anime. Most are standalone or alternate-continuity stories.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBest Value
Should I follow seasons or episode numbers?
Follow episode numbers. Streaming services divide the long-running anime into different season packages, so season labels are inconsistent.
Can I skip filler on a first watch?
Yes. Clearly identified filler arcs can be skipped without losing the manga-based story. However, avoid automatically skipping mixed episodes, and consider watching G-8 because it is widely regarded as especially strong anime-original material.
When should I watch One Piece Film: Red?
Watch Episodes 1029–1030 for the direct tie-in material, but wait until after Episode 1085 for the safer spoiler-free option. The film reveals later character designs, powers, and statuses.
The Bottom Line
Start with Episode 1 and use episode numbers all the way through Episode 1155, then begin Elbaph at Episode 1156. Skip only clearly marked filler if you want a shorter route. Treat the movies and specials as optional, and delay Stampede and especially Film: Red until their safer spoiler windows.
