Yes—you can watch Instagram Live on a computer. Open Instagram.com in a current desktop browser, sign in if prompted, find the account marked Live, and click its profile picture. Instagram officially supports watching live broadcasts on the web, although the exact layout and available controls may vary.
Watch Instagram Live on a computer
- Open a current web browser on your Windows PC, Mac, laptop, Chromebook, or other computer.
- Go to Instagram.com.
- Sign in if Instagram requests it.
- Look at the top of your feed for a creator’s profile picture with a colorful ring and the Live label.
- Click the profile picture to join the broadcast.
These are the standard web steps described by Instagram’s Help Center. Button names and their positions can change slightly by browser, language, account, region, and interface rollout.
How to find a specific person’s Live
If the creator does not appear at the top of your feed, use Instagram’s search field to find their username. Open the correct profile and look for an active Live indicator on the profile picture.

What you can do during Instagram Live on a PC
Once you join a broadcast, Instagram’s desktop viewer may let you:
- Add a comment using the comment field.
- Like a comment.
- Reply to a comment.
- React to the video with an emoji.
- Share the broadcast with other people.
Available controls are not necessarily identical to those in the mobile app. Treat comments and reactions as public activity: the broadcaster and other viewers may be able to see them.
Is watching Instagram Live anonymous?
Do not assume it is. Instagram says the broadcaster and other viewers may be able to see when someone joins a Live. Your comments, likes, and reactions may also be visible. Watching through Instagram.com is not a guaranteed anonymous experience.

Avoid “anonymous Instagram Live viewer” websites and browser extensions. They may be unreliable, break when Instagram changes its interface, request your credentials, or collect personal information. Never enter your Instagram password into an unofficial viewer service.
Do you need the Instagram app or an account?
You do not need the mobile app to use the official computer method—Instagram.com is the supported web route. However, Instagram may require you to sign in or restrict access for some broadcasts. Do not rely on being able to watch every Live while logged out.
Access can also depend on the creator’s account, your relationship to that account, the broadcast’s availability, and regional or temporary platform restrictions.

What happens when the Live ends?
A creator may choose to share a recording as a replay. To look for one, open the creator’s profile and check the available posts or Reels area. Instagram explains the replay process in its Help Centre.
The distinction is important:
- Live now: the broadcast is happening in real time and is the only way to participate in the live conversation.
- Replay: the creator chose to share a recording after the broadcast ended.
- No replay: if the creator did not share one, there may be no official way to watch that broadcast afterward.
Replays do not preserve the original likes or comments, and the viewer count starts over when the replay is shared. The creator cannot edit or trim the Live before sharing it as a replay.
Can you download someone else’s Instagram Live?
Instagram does not provide a standard desktop download button for viewers to save another person’s Live. Its official download instructions apply to the broadcaster saving their own ended Live to a device; comments, likes, and viewers are not saved with that video. See Instagram’s download guidance.

If you consider screen-recording a broadcast, obtain permission first and respect copyright and privacy. A screen recording captures what is displayed and may not preserve the original video file or chat. Do not use download websites that ask for your Instagram login.

Watching Instagram Live from a computer is supported. Starting your own Instagram Live from a computer is a separate feature. Instagram’s current Help Centre says starting a Live is not available on computers and directs creators to the Android or iPhone apps: Start a live broadcast.
You do not need an emulator, developer-tools workaround, unofficial desktop client, or paid streaming software just to watch someone else’s broadcast. Such workarounds can create compatibility, privacy, security, or account-policy risks.

Why Instagram Live is not appearing or loading
Try this recovery sequence, starting with the least disruptive option:
- Refresh Instagram.com.
- Confirm the creator’s username and open the account directly from search.
- Check whether the broadcast has already ended.
- Sign in if Instagram displays a login prompt.
- Open Instagram in a private or incognito window.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers and other browser extensions for Instagram.
- Try another current browser.
- Check your internet connection and reload the page.
- If the Live has ended, check the creator’s profile for a replay.
- If several broadcasts fail, consult Instagram’s troubleshooting guidance.
These steps can help with a black video, endless loading spinner, missing comments, login loops, muted audio, or a Live that worked on a phone but not on a computer. Instagram’s general troubleshooting advice is primarily mobile-focused, so the browser-specific steps above are practical desktop fixes rather than guaranteed official procedures.
Can you watch Instagram Live on a TV?
Instagram.com in a computer browser remains the dependable official method covered here. TV support is separate and depends on the platform, country, device model, and rollout status.
