In the United States, the primary official way to watch all eight seasons of Game of Thrones on an Apple mobile device is the HBO Max app (still called Max in some rollouts). HBO Max lists iPhone and iPad support at iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later. Older iPod touch models are unlikely to qualify: Apple’s iOS 16 compatibility list contains no iPod touch model. Availability, plans and pricing can vary by country and billing channel.
Where to watch legally
Install the official HBO Max App Store app, or sign in if you already receive the service through HBO Max, Max or a participating television, internet or wireless provider. Warner Bros. Discovery’s catalog help page lists all eight seasons of Game of Thrones on the service, subject to regional availability.

The 2026 brand transition can make the app appear as “HBO Max” or “Max.” Search for HBO Max and verify that the publisher is WarnerMedia Global Digital Services. Existing Max profiles and settings are intended to remain in place during the rebrand; you normally do not need a new account.

HBO Max’s supported-device guidance specifies iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Hardware must also be capable of running that operating system.

Check the model at Settings → General → About. Then open Settings → General → Software Update. If the device cannot reach iOS/iPadOS 16.4, use a newer iPhone or iPad, a computer or a supported TV device instead.
Install the app
- Open the App Store.
- Search for HBO Max (older results may say Max).
- Open the listing and confirm the publisher is WarnerMedia Global Digital Services and that your device meets the stated minimum OS.
- Tap Get or the download button, then authenticate with Apple.
- Open HBO Max after installation.
If the listing is absent, check your iOS/iPadOS version, App Store country or region, available storage, parental or organization restrictions, and internet connection. App and catalog availability can differ by region.
Subscribe or use existing access
Choose Sign In first if you already have Max/HBO Max or receive HBO through a participating provider; purchasing again through Apple can create duplicate billing. New customers can select Subscribe in the app or use the official signup route, choose a plan and billing period, create an account and add payment.

Prices change and can differ by billing channel. On August 18, 2026, the direct U.S. help page listed Basic with Ads at $9.99 monthly ($99.99 yearly), Standard at $16.99 monthly ($169.99 yearly) and Premium at $20.99 monthly ($209.99 yearly). The U.S. App Store listing displayed $10.99, $18.49 and $22.99 monthly, respectively, with different annual prices. Treat the final checkout screen as authoritative.
Find and play the series
- Open HBO Max and tap Search.
- Enter Game of Thrones.
- Select the series result, then open Episodes if necessary.
- Choose a season, select an episode and tap Play.
If a season or episode seems missing, search for the exact title, select the season manually, update the app, sign out and back in, and confirm your account’s region and subscription status. Catalog changes may be regional or temporary.
Which plan fits an Apple mobile viewer?

Download episodes for offline viewing
Offline downloads require Standard or Premium, an eligible episode and enough device storage. Basic with Ads has zero downloads. Some titles or individual episodes may not offer a download, and limits apply across mobile devices on the account.

- Open Game of Thrones, select a season and episode.
- Tap the download icon when it appears.
- Wait for completion, then open the app’s Downloads area to watch offline.
Do not assume every episode is downloadable or that one universal expiration period applies. Streaming 73 episodes over cellular data can also consume substantial data, so download before travel when possible.
iPod touch reality check
The support page’s broad device wording can be misleading. HBO Max requires iOS 16.4, while Apple’s iOS 16 compatibility page has no iPod touch entry. Therefore, most existing iPod touch devices should be considered impractical for HBO Max in 2026. You can check the App Store directly, but do not sideload an unofficial IPA or modified app. If installation is refused, use a compatible iPhone, iPad, computer or TV device.

If something does not work
- App not found: verify the exact model, install available system updates, check App Store region and restrictions, restart, and confirm storage. If the hardware cannot run iOS/iPadOS 16.4, it needs replacement or another playback device.
- Login or duplicate subscription: try Sign In with the provider or Max account before starting an Apple subscription. Check Apple subscriptions and your provider account for existing billing.
- Title or episode missing: search the exact title, open Episodes, choose the season, update HBO Max and sign in again. If it remains absent, contact HBO Max support; availability may be regional.
- No download button: confirm you have Standard or Premium, sufficient storage and a supported title. Basic with Ads cannot download.
- Mobile browser question: HBO Max’s mobile instructions emphasize the app. Browser playback is explicitly documented for computers, so Safari availability on iPhone or iPad may vary and is not the recommended method.
Use official sources
For current requirements, consult HBO Max supported devices, Apple’s iOS 16 compatibility list, U.S. plans and download rules. Avoid piracy, torrent downloads, unauthorized “free episode” pages and unofficial apps.

Can I watch without cable?
