Key takeaways
- The 2026 Cheltenham Festival ran from Tuesday 10 March to Friday 13 March 2026 and has ended as of 13 August 2026.
- During the festival, UK viewers could watch ITV’s free-to-air coverage on television or stream it live through ITVX with a free account.
- ITVX is restricted to the UK under ITV’s licensing rules, so ITVX was not a confirmed free streaming route for viewers in the United States or elsewhere.
- ITV says VPN or proxy detection may prevent ITVX playback, so a VPN should not be presented as a guaranteed workaround.
- The reviewed official sources do not confirm that a complete 2026 festival replay remains available, so any archive claim requires a fresh ITVX check.
How to watch Cheltenham Festival 2026 for free
During the 2026 festival, UK viewers could watch ITV’s free-to-air horse-racing coverage on television or use the watch Cheltenham live on ITVX route online. ITVX account registration was free, but ITVX was intended for viewers in the UK and the live event ended on Friday 13 March 2026.
The original online route was not a mysterious third-party stream: ITV simulcast its racing coverage on ITVX as part of its UK horse-racing rights. ITV’s announcement said that coverage would appear across ITV1 and ITV4 and would also be available through ITVX. ITV Director of Sport Niall Sloane described the agreement as continuing “well over 100 days of live coverage” each year, including major racing events, in the official ITV Racing rights announcement.

What was the free UK viewing method?
The free method for UK viewers was ITV’s broadcast coverage, with ITVX providing the online simulcast. ITVX was free to register for live-TV streaming, although “free” did not mean anonymous or available worldwide: viewers needed an ITVX account, and geographic licensing controls applied.
- Open ITVX through the official ITV website or the ITVX app.
- Create or sign in to a free ITVX account. ITV’s help centre explains that an account is used to access live TV and other ITVX content; ITV account registration and live-TV guidance confirms that registration is free.
- During the festival, select the relevant live ITV channel or ITV Racing programme when it appeared in the ITVX schedule.
- If the live event has ended, search ITVX for Cheltenham Festival, ITV Racing, or the relevant race rather than assuming that the original live page is still active.
Television viewers in the UK could instead use ITV’s free-to-air coverage on the relevant ITV channel. The online and television routes carried the same authorised ITV coverage; ITVX was the convenient route for viewers watching on a computer, phone, tablet, smart-TV app, or supported streaming device.
Is the Cheltenham Festival 2026 live stream still available?
No current live stream should be promised. The 2026 festival finished on Friday 13 March 2026, and the authoritative research date for this article is 13 August 2026. A live broadcast page for the event would therefore be historical rather than an active race feed.
The Jockey Club’s official Cheltenham Festival page listed the 2026 meeting as a four-day event from Tuesday 10 March through Friday 13 March. The event days were Champion Day on 10 March, Ladies Day on 11 March, St Patrick’s Thursday on 12 March, and Gold Cup Day on 13 March.

A complete 2026 Cheltenham Festival replay cannot be confirmed from the reviewed official sources. ITV’s general help information indicates that live sporting events may take longer to process after broadcast, but that guidance does not establish that the full meeting remains available months later.
Before publication or viewing, check ITVX directly for an official Cheltenham Festival or ITV Racing archive page. If ITVX does not show the complete event, use official race highlights, results, or channels operated by the racecourse and rights holders. Avoid unauthorised restreams, which may be removed and may not have permission to show the races.

Does ITVX work outside the UK?
ITVX is not a confirmed U.S. or worldwide solution because ITV says ITVX and ITVX Premium can be used only in the UK under its broadcast and content licences. The official ITVX geographic-availability guidance also explains why a viewer may be identified as being outside the UK.
Viewers outside the UK should check the official broadcaster or racecourse channels for their own territory. This research did not verify a U.S.-specific free stream, a U.S. rights holder, or a current official full-event archive for the 2026 meeting. That is an unresolved availability question, not evidence that no U.S. broadcaster carried the races.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCan a VPN unlock the free Cheltenham stream?
A VPN should not be described as a reliable or authorised way to watch ITVX from outside the UK. ITV says VPN or proxy detection may prevent playback, and ITV’s licensing policy limits the service to the UK. The practical answer is to use an authorised broadcaster available in the viewer’s territory rather than promise that a VPN will work.
What were the 2026 Cheltenham Festival race times?
The Jockey Club’s 2026 schedule listed racing at approximately 1:20 p.m. to 5:20 p.m. local time on each festival day, while warning that timings could change. Those times are historical now and should not be treated as a current broadcast schedule.
| Festival day | Date in 2026 | Listed day name | Approximate scheduled racing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | 10 March 2026 | Champion Day | Approximately 1:20 p.m.–5:20 p.m. local time |
| Wednesday | 11 March 2026 | Ladies Day | Approximately 1:20 p.m.–5:20 p.m. local time |
| Thursday | 12 March 2026 | St Patrick’s Thursday | Approximately 1:20 p.m.–5:20 p.m. local time |
| Friday | 13 March 2026 | Gold Cup Day | Approximately 1:20 p.m.–5:20 p.m. local time |
The dates and schedule came from the Jockey Club’s official event information. Race times can change, so future Cheltenham coverage should always be checked against the current official schedule rather than copied from the 2026 timetable.

Racing TV may be relevant as a paid horse-racing viewing service or as a future rights-checking option, but the reviewed sources do not verify a current 2026 archive, a free Cheltenham stream, or affiliate availability. Racing TV should therefore not replace ITVX as the answer to “free,” and readers should verify the service’s territory, event access, price, and replay terms before subscribing.

What should you do if ITVX will not play?
If an authorised UK viewer cannot start ITVX, first confirm that the ITVX account is signed in, the device and app are supported, and the internet connection is working. Next check whether the programme is still live or has moved into an archive, because the 2026 festival is no longer an active broadcast.
- Check ITVX’s service status and programme listing rather than relying on an old event URL.
- Turn off a VPN or proxy if one is active; ITV says detection can prevent playback.
- Confirm that the device’s location and network are genuinely in the UK if ITVX reports that the viewer is outside the UK.
- Try the ITVX website or official app on another supported device.
- If the full replay is absent, use official highlights or results instead of an unauthorised restream.
Computer-cleanup software cannot create broadcast rights, remove ITVX’s geographic restriction, or increase an internet connection’s available bandwidth. A tool such as Outbyte is therefore not required to watch ITVX and is outside the core solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still watch the Cheltenham Festival 2026 live?
The 2026 Cheltenham Festival ended on 13 March 2026, so there is no current live race stream to watch. UK viewers should check ITVX for an official archive, but the reviewed sources do not confirm that a complete festival replay remains available.
How could viewers in the USA watch Cheltenham Festival 2026 for free?
ITVX was the free online route for UK viewers during the 2026 festival, but ITV restricts ITVX to the UK under its broadcast and content licences. This research did not verify a U.S.-specific free stream or current full-event archive.
Did I need an ITVX account to watch Cheltenham horse racing?
Yes. ITVX account registration was free and was required for live-TV streaming through ITVX. Free registration did not remove ITVX’s UK geographic restriction.
Can I watch Cheltenham Festival 2026 replays?
A complete 2026 Cheltenham Festival replay is not confirmed by the reviewed official sources. Check ITVX and official racecourse or rights-holder channels for highlights, results, or any remaining archive rather than using an unauthorised restream.
The Bottom Line
The free online route for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival was ITVX for UK viewers, using a free account and ITV’s authorised live simulcast. The festival ended on 13 March 2026, ITVX is UK-only, and the reviewed sources do not confirm a complete replay now. Check ITVX and official local broadcasters rather than relying on VPNs or unofficial streams.
