Try this first: open the Spotify mobile app, tap your profile picture, and look for Time Machine or a similarly named listening-statistics option. If it is not there, that does not necessarily mean Spotify is malfunctioning: the feature’s availability, name, placement, and metrics may vary by account, country, app version, or rollout.
What is Spotify Time Machine?
Spotify Time Machine is the name users report for a monthly listening-summary experience. Depending on the account and version of the app, it may show listening time for a month, top artists, top songs, trends, rankings, or shareable recap cards.
Spotify does not currently provide a clearly indexed support page that defines Time Machine’s eligibility, exact metrics, or universal menu path. For that reason, treat it as an available-in-app experience rather than a feature guaranteed to every Spotify listener. User reports and tutorials describe it as a monthly equivalent of some parts of Wrapped, but the exact period may not always be a calendar month.

- Open the current Spotify app on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Check that you are signed in to the account whose listening history you want to view.
- Tap your profile picture or account avatar.
- Look for Time Machine, Listening stats, Monthly summary, or a similarly named entry.
- Open the feature and choose a month if month navigation is available.
- Review the listening-time, artist, song, and other cards shown for your account.
- Use Spotify’s share control if one is provided.
The profile-picture route is the most commonly reported path, but it is not a guaranteed current path for every user. If you do not see the option, also search Spotify for Time Machine and check the Home and Search areas.

What information might Time Machine show?
The available reports describe some combination of:
- Total listening time, expressed in minutes or hours.
- Your most-played artist.
- Your most-played song.
- Monthly listening trends or comparisons.
- Rankings, recap cards, or other personalized statistics.
These are possible contents, not a published specification. Spotify can change the cards or period shown. A label such as “monthly” should not automatically be interpreted as a calendar-month calculation unless the interface makes that clear.

What to do if Time Machine is missing
- Update Spotify: install the latest version from your device’s app store.
- Restart the app: force-close Spotify, reopen it, and check the profile menu again.
- Verify the account: multiple login methods can lead to different Spotify accounts, each with separate history.
- Search inside Spotify: try “Time Machine,” “monthly summary,” and “listening stats.”
- Try another phone: if possible, sign in on another supported mobile device.
- Reset the app: clear Spotify’s cache, or reinstall it after confirming that downloaded music can be downloaded again.
Time Machine may be absent because Spotify has not enabled it for your account or market, is testing it with a limited group, has renamed it, or has withdrawn it. There is no reliable evidence that Premium is required, so upgrading should not be treated as a guaranteed fix. Do not change your country settings, install unofficial APKs, or use browser scripts to force the feature to appear.

Time Machine is primarily associated with Spotify’s mobile app. If it is absent from the desktop or web player, check the mobile app before concluding that your account cannot access it.

The reliable fallback: download your Spotify listening history
If you need a monthly summary that you can reproduce or calculate for older periods, Spotify’s official account-data export is the strongest alternative. Spotify says its downloadable data can include Streaming History with the item listened to, creator, stream-end time, a UTC timestamp, and msPlayed, the number of milliseconds played. - Sign in to Spotify’s account and privacy area.
- Request the available streaming-history data.
- Download the archive when Spotify makes it available.
- Filter the records by the month you want to examine.
- Sum
msPlayedto calculate total listening time. - Group records by artist and track, then sort the totals to create rankings.
Spotify’s standard data explanation describes a Streaming History package covering the past year. If your account offers a more extensive history package and you need older months, request that option instead. Data exports may not be immediately available.

Convert Spotify’s milliseconds into time
hours = total_msPlayed / 3,600,000
minutes = total_msPlayed / 60,000This measures listening time recorded by Spotify, not necessarily time you intentionally spent listening. It can include background playback, repeats, partial plays, listening across devices, and podcast or video records where those appear in the export.

Spotify records stream-end timestamps in UTC. A listen near midnight in your local time zone can therefore fall into a different UTC date or month. A track played across a month boundary may be assigned according to its recorded stream-end time. Spotify may also use a rolling period rather than a calendar month, while your spreadsheet or script uses local calendar dates.

Other differences can result from offline listening being synchronized later, separate Spotify profiles, family-plan members having independent histories, unavailable tracks remaining in the export, or podcast and video plays being included in your grouping.

Privacy and accuracy precautions
- Keep the downloaded archive private: it contains personal listening information and may include other account data.
- Prefer a local spreadsheet or script instead of uploading raw JSON to an unfamiliar website.
- Remove account identifiers before sharing screenshots or exported records.
- Check whether podcasts and videos are included before comparing your result with a music-only summary.
- Remember that multiple Spotify accounts and profiles are not automatically combined.
Which method should you use?
- Use Time Machine when it appears and you want the fastest built-in snapshot.
- Use Spotify’s data export when you need transparent calculations, historical comparisons, or a repeatable report.
- Use a local spreadsheet or script when privacy and control matter more than convenience.
- Consider third-party statistics services cautiously: verify their permissions, privacy practices, retention policies, pricing, and current availability before connecting an account or uploading history.
