To view recent YouTube Music history, open YouTube Music, tap your profile picture, and select History. To remove one item, open its More menu and choose Remove from history. For date ranges, automatic deletion, or activity controls, use Settings → Privacy (the exact label varies) or Google My Activity.
One important distinction: YouTube Music history is not a single isolated log. Watch history and search history are separate, but watch-history controls are shared between YouTube and YouTube Music when both use the same Google account.
First, choose the history you want to change

Watch history includes songs, music videos, podcasts, and other YouTube content played while you are signed in. Search history records terms entered in YouTube Music or YouTube. They must usually be managed separately, although bulk deletion for a selected period can affect both.
View recent YouTube Music history
- Open the YouTube Music app.
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap History.
- Review recently played songs, videos, podcasts, and other content.
To remove a recent entry, tap the More menu beside it and select Remove from history. This History page is convenient for recent individual items, but it may not be a complete account-wide archive. Use Manage watch history or Google My Activity if you need date filters, searches, bulk deletion, or activity controls. See YouTube Music’s history guidance.

Delete one song, video, or podcast
The least disruptive method is to remove only the unwanted entry:
- Tap your profile picture.
- Open History.
- Tap More next to the item.
- Select Remove from history.
You can also reach individual watch-history controls through Profile picture → Settings → Privacy (or a similarly named privacy submenu) → Manage watch history. Menu wording differs between platforms and app releases.
Delete all or date-specific watch history
For the fullest set of controls, use Google My Activity:

- Open Google My Activity while signed in to the correct Google account.
- Select YouTube History.
- Choose Manage history.
- Use search, calendar controls, or Delete to select an individual entry, date range, or larger period.
- Review the confirmation screen and confirm.
Warning: YouTube’s documented deletion controls can also remove YouTube search history for the same selected period. Check the dates and read the confirmation screen before approving a bulk deletion. Depending on the control you use, deletion may work across the YouTube and YouTube Music activity associated with the same account. Details are in YouTube’s watch-history help.
Pause YouTube Music watch history
Pausing stops new watched content from being saved to normal watch history while the setting is active. It does not erase entries that already exist.

From the YouTube Music app
- Tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy, Privacy & data, or Privacy & location.
- Turn on Pause watch history.
Some personalized stations may be unavailable or less personalized while history is paused. Pausing also does not guarantee that every recommendation signal stops operating; likes, subscriptions, feedback, and other activity can still matter.
From Google My Activity
- Open Google My Activity.
- Open YouTube History.
- Select Controls.
- Turn off the option that includes the YouTube videos you watch.
YouTube’s controls can separately address watched videos, searches, and voice or audio activity. This is the clearest route when you want to control specific activity types. See YouTube’s activity-control instructions.
Resume watch history after pausing it
Use the same control again:
- In YouTube Music, return to the privacy section and turn off Pause watch history.
- In Google My Activity, open YouTube History → Controls and re-enable the relevant activity option.
Plays made while history was paused are not ordinarily recreated as normal history entries when you resume the setting.
Pause or delete search history
Removing a played song does not necessarily remove the search you used to find it. Search history has its own controls.
Pause search history
- Sign in to YouTube or YouTube Music.
- Open Settings → Manage all history, or open the privacy settings and follow the history-management link.
- Open the Controls tab.
- Turn off Include your searches on YouTube, or enable the equivalent pause control.
While paused, searches are not saved to search history. For a temporary session-specific alternative, YouTube also supports Incognito mode. Incognito is not a substitute for checking existing account history.

Delete searches
From Manage all history or Google My Activity, you can delete one search, search for a particular query, browse by date, clear a selected period, or configure automatic deletion. Deleted searches also stop appearing as search-box suggestions and are no longer used as that search-history signal for recommendations. Read YouTube’s search-history instructions.
Set automatic deletion
YouTube’s current help documentation lists search-history automatic-deletion choices of 3, 18, or 36 months, as well as no automatic deletion. The choices shown can vary by account, region, activity type, or interface, so use the options displayed in your account.
- Open Google My Activity.
- Select YouTube History.
- Choose Manage history.
- Select Auto-delete.
- Choose an available time range.
- Select Next and confirm.
Automatic deletion is useful for ongoing privacy maintenance, but it also removes older activity that might otherwise help personalize recommendations.
Android and iPhone/iPad menu differences
Android
Current YouTube instructions may show Profile picture → Settings → Manage all history. YouTube Music may instead show Profile picture → Settings → Privacy & data → Manage watch history.
iPhone and iPad
YouTube Music’s documented route may show Profile picture → Settings → Privacy → Manage watch history or Manage search history.

If your labels do not match these paths, look for Privacy, Manage all history, or Manage watch history. Google My Activity is the fallback for full account-level controls. The labels can change with the operating system, account, and app version. See the official Android and iOS guidance.

Desktop
On a computer, the most reliable route is Google My Activity → YouTube History → Manage history. From there you can search activity, browse by calendar, delete entries or periods, set auto-delete, and open Controls to pause saving.
Smart TVs and game consoles
The YouTube app generally offers simpler device-level controls under Settings:
- Pause watch history
- Clear watch history
For individual entries, date ranges, and detailed activity-type controls, use the mobile app or Google My Activity instead.

Recommendations
Deleted watch or search activity is no longer available as that history signal for future recommendations. However, deleting history is not a guaranteed complete recommendation reset. Likes, subscriptions, explicit feedback, and other Google or YouTube activity may continue influencing what YouTube Music suggests. See YouTube’s explanation of recommendation signals.

Personalized stations
Pausing history can make some personalized stations unavailable or less tailored. Other activity may still affect personalization.
Search suggestions
Deleting a search removes it from the relevant search-history suggestions. It does not necessarily remove a separately saved playlist, liked song, subscription, or other library item.
“On repeat” and listening statistics
YouTube Music statistics such as On repeat use watch history across YouTube services and refresh daily. After changing history, allow time for statistics to update rather than expecting an immediate change. See YouTube Music’s statistics guidance.
What history deletion does not remove
Clearing history should not be described as deleting your liked songs, saved albums, playlists, subscriptions, downloads, or purchased content. Those are separate controls.

If deleted history still appears
- Confirm the account: Check the profile avatar and email address before changing or reviewing activity. Personal, work, family, and Brand Account profiles can differ.
- Check both services: With the same Google account, YouTube and YouTube Music share watch-history controls.
- Refresh the app: Close and reopen YouTube Music, then check again.
- Identify the activity type: The item may be a search entry rather than a played item, requiring search-history controls.
- Check whether it is library content: A playlist, liked song, download, or subscription is not the same as history.
- Use Google My Activity: The app’s recent History view may not show the complete account-wide record.
- Allow for statistics delay: Features such as On repeat refresh daily, so their visible results may lag behind a deletion or pause.
Quick decision guide
- Temporary privacy: Pause watch history, and pause search history if needed.
- One accidental play: Remove the individual item.
- A listening session or date range: Delete by date, checking the possible search-history impact first.
- Ongoing cleanup: Configure automatic deletion if the option is available in your account.
- A cleaner recommendation profile: Delete relevant history, then review likes, subscriptions, and feedback as well.
