To use Streamlabs widgets on a YouTube Live stream, configure the widget in your Streamlabs dashboard, add it to the right scene in your streaming software, then send a test event and check the encoder preview before broadcasting. Use Alert Box for events such as subscribers, members, and Super Chats; use Chat Box when you want messages visible on-screen.
Choose the widget you need
Alert Box for channel events
Alert Box displays selected events, including YouTube subscriber, member, and Super Chat alerts. Which events and customization controls are available depends on the platform and event type.
Chat Box for on-screen messages
Chat Box places chat messages over the stream output, so viewers can see them in the broadcast or its recording. Streamlabs’ July 9, 2026 guide lists YouTube as a supported chat platform. Adjust its appearance and behavior to suit your scene.
Configure YouTube alerts in Streamlabs

Open the Streamlabs dashboard and select Alert Box.

Confirm YouTube is selected for the account or channel configuration, then choose the event type you want to set up.

Adjust the controls offered for that event. Depending on the event, these may include layout, image or GIF, sound, font, animation, and duration. Preview the alert as you edit.

Save your changes before leaving the settings. Optional advanced controls include alert variations and shared or global settings; they are not necessary for a basic alert.

Add Alert Box to your streaming software
Choose the route that matches your setup. Menu names can vary as software interfaces change, and not every widget or third-party encoder has identical controls.

Place Chat Box on the scene
Add Chat Box through the widget or source flow supported by your software, following Streamlabs’ instructions for that route. Position it so messages are legible without covering important documentary footage, captions, or other essential content. Review the widget’s appearance and functionality settings, then check the result in the scene preview.
Test widgets before you go live

For a basic alert, use the dashboard’s test dropdown. If you configured a variation, test it from the variation controls as well.

In Streamlabs Desktop, open Test Widgets and choose the relevant event type. In the OBS plugin, use its test controls.

For a Browser Source, trigger a dashboard test and confirm it appears in the encoder preview and the scene you intend to use.

Check that the alert or chat overlay is visible, readable, and not obstructing your program content. Make any position or size adjustments before broadcasting.
