Amazon Music starts and routes the audio; the device supplies the sound mode or equalizer.
Amazon’s Alexa platform documents named modes, bass, midrange, and treble controls for compatible entertainment devices. Your exact choices depend on the model and its Alexa integration.
What “presets” can mean on Amazon Music
Sound-mode presets
A sound mode is a device-provided profile designed for a use case. Alexa’s documented mode values are Music, Movie, Night, Sport, and TV. A manufacturer determines which of these its product actually exposes. See Amazon’s EqualizerController documentation.
Manual equalizer controls
Instead of choosing a named mode, you can change bass, midrange, or treble. The available bands and their numeric minimum and maximum are device-specific; there is no universal Amazon Music scale.

Playlists, stations, HD audio, and spatial audio
A playlist or station determines what plays, not how the speaker processes it. HD and Ultra HD labels describe playback quality, while spatial-audio formats describe supported immersive content and devices. None is the same thing as an EQ preset.
What you need before using a preset
- An Echo or other Alexa-enabled playback device, such as a compatible speaker, soundbar, smart TV, AV receiver, or Fire TV audio setup.
- The device added to your Alexa household and online.
- Amazon Music playing directly on that device or sent to it with Alexa Cast.
- A model that declares the particular mode or EQ band you want. Compatibility is not universal.
- The device or room name if more than one playback device is available.
Amazon Music’s FAQ explains that you can start playback in the app and use the casting icon on the Now Playing screen to connect to an Alexa-enabled device: Amazon Music FAQ.

How to use a named preset with Alexa
- Start playback. Open Amazon Music on your phone, tablet, computer, Fire TV, or compatible device and play a track, album, playlist, or station.
- Choose the playback device. On a phone or tablet, open Now Playing, tap the Casting or Alexa Cast control, and select the Echo or compatible device. Confirm that the sound is coming from that device rather than the phone.
- Say a supported mode command. Try
Alexa, set music mode.Other documented examples includeAlexa, set movie mode,Alexa, set night mode,Alexa, set sport mode, andAlexa, set TV mode. - Target a device when necessary. With several speakers, say
Alexa, set music mode on the living room speakerorAlexa, set night mode on the bedroom TV. - Listen and compare. Alexa may confirm the change, or the device may switch silently. Replay a familiar passage at a moderate volume and compare it with the previous setting.
A mode changes processing on the selected device. It does not automatically change every speaker associated with your Amazon account, and “music mode” is not an Amazon Music subscription tier.
Alexa commands for bass, midrange, treble, and reset
| Goal | Example command |
|---|---|
| Select a named mode | Alexa, set music mode. |
| Increase a band | Alexa, increase bass. |
| Decrease a band | Alexa, decrease treble. |
| Change midrange | Alexa, increase midrange. |
| Set an exact value | Alexa, set bass to three. |
| Set a value on a named device | Alexa, set bass to minus two on the living room speaker. |
| Make a relative adjustment | Alexa, increase bass by three on the stereo. |
| Reset all supported EQ | Alexa, reset equalizer. |
| Reset a band | Alexa, reset treble. |
Set requests a particular value, increase or decrease changes the current value, and increase by makes a relative adjustment. The permitted numbers and whether reset is available come from the device. Amazon’s command examples are documented in its Alexa EQ announcement.

Can you change presets in the Alexa or manufacturer app?
There is no single Alexa-app menu path that applies to every product. In the Alexa app, select the individual speaker, TV, soundbar, or receiver and look for labels such as Sound, Audio, Equalizer, or Sound Mode. If those controls are absent, open the manufacturer’s app and look for Sound Mode, EQ, Standard, Flat, Default, or Reset.
Some integrations expose controls by voice only; others put the controls entirely in the manufacturer’s app. Menu names also vary by model, region, and app version. Casting from Amazon Music selects where audio plays, but does not guarantee that the app will display the device’s EQ controls.

Why presets may not appear in Amazon Music
- The app controls playback and casting, not a universal device EQ.
- Your speaker, TV, soundbar, or receiver may not implement Alexa’s equalizer capability.
- The requested mode or band may not be declared by that model.
- The audio may still be playing from the phone, computer, or another device.
- The control may be available only by voice or in the manufacturer’s app.
Amazon’s public documentation establishes device-level Alexa controls, not a universal Amazon Music preset editor. The absence of an EQ button in Amazon Music is therefore normal on many setups.

Alexa says the device does not support the command
- Name the device explicitly.
- Try a basic command such as
Alexa, increase bass. - Try
Alexa, reset equalizer. - Check that the device appears online in the Alexa app and that its manufacturer skill, if required, is linked.
- Check the manufacturer app for firmware status, then restart the playback device and Alexa app.
The mode changes but the sound seems identical
The command may have affected another device, the mode may be subtle, or another EQ layer may be active in the TV, receiver, soundbar, or source device. Stop playback, specify the target by name, play the same passage again, and temporarily disable competing processing. Compare with the product’s Standard or Flat setting.

One device works while another does not
That is expected when products declare different modes, EQ bands, or numeric ranges. Alexa capability is implemented by each device integration; Amazon describes supported smart-entertainment categories in its smart-home entertainment documentation.
Bluetooth headphones or wired equipment are involved
Alexa may not control EQ on arbitrary Bluetooth headphones, a computer’s system audio, a wired amplifier, or a third-party playback app. Use the phone, tablet, Windows, or Mac audio controls, the headphone manufacturer’s app, or the soundbar, receiver, or TV’s own controls. Do not assume an Alexa command can modify every Bluetooth output.
Preset, playlist, quality, and spatial-audio differences
| Feature | What it changes | Where it usually lives |
|---|---|---|
| Sound mode | Device processing for music, movies, night listening, TV, or sports | Compatible speaker, TV, soundbar, receiver, or Alexa voice control |
| Bass, midrange, treble | Specific frequency-band levels | Compatible device or its manufacturer app |
| Playlist or station | The sequence or source of music | Amazon Music |
| HD or Ultra HD | Playback-quality label for supported tracks and devices | Amazon Music and compatible playback chain |
| Spatial audio | Immersive audio format when content and hardware support it | Amazon Music content plus compatible device |
Can you create and save a custom Amazon Music preset?
Amazon’s public documentation does not establish a general Amazon Music feature for creating named, account-wide EQ presets. You may be able to save settings on a particular soundbar, TV, receiver, or headphone app, but persistence and room-to-room behavior are product-specific. Treat any saved profile as belonging to that device unless its manufacturer explicitly documents synchronization.
