How to Use NDI with XSplit Broadcaster

Add a local NDI feed to an XSplit Broadcaster scene, choose its audio routing, and troubleshoot stuttering or desynchronization.

To add an NDI feed in XSplit Broadcaster, open Add Source > Video/Network Stream and select the feed from the list. NDI is designed to send video sources over a local network, so the sending application or device and Broadcaster need to be discoverable in that network workflow.

What NDI does in XSplit Broadcaster

NDI (Network Device Interface) lets XSplit Broadcaster receive video sources from other Broadcaster instances and NDI-enabled applications over a local network. That makes it useful for bringing a camera or another computer’s application feed into a scene without treating it as a directly attached source. Broadcaster can also send its finished production out as an NDI stream to compatible devices and software on the network.

Receiving an NDI feed and sending your production over NDI are separate directions of use: the first adds another source to your scene; the second shares the completed Broadcaster output. Network bandwidth matters to the workflow, but XSplit’s setup documentation does not state a numeric bandwidth requirement for ordinary local NDI sources.

Before adding a feed

  • Make sure an NDI source is already being provided by a compatible device or application.
  • Use the local-network workflow: XSplit’s documentation does not specify exact ports, firewall rules, or a version compatibility matrix, so consult the relevant software or network documentation if the source does not appear.
  • Decide how you want the NDI source’s audio routed. Broadcaster offers System Sound and Stream Only; neither is universally right, since the choice depends on your production’s audio setup.

Add an NDI source to a scene

  1. Open the scene in XSplit Broadcaster where you want the feed to appear.
  2. Select Add Source > Video/Network Stream.
  3. Choose the desired NDI stream from the list of available feeds.
  4. Confirm that the source appears in your scene, then arrange and size it as needed for the production.
  5. Set the source’s audio output to System Sound or Stream Only, according to where you need that audio routed.

Choose a quality setting if the feed is unstable

If the NDI feed stutters or becomes desynchronized, XSplit recommends switching the source quality to Standard. XSplit says this setting receives audio and video at lower bandwidth. Its documentation does not give numeric bitrate or image-quality figures for this control, so treat Standard as a troubleshooting option rather than a quantified performance guarantee.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Send Broadcaster’s production over NDI

If you need another compatible network device or application to receive the complete Broadcaster production, use Broadcaster’s NDI output capability rather than adding an NDI source. XSplit describes Broadcaster as supporting both sending and receiving video and audio over a local network. The exact output configuration depends on the receiving software or device; use its instructions to select the Broadcaster stream.

NDI for a remote guest

Local NDI and a remote-guest workflow are not interchangeable. XSplit’s NDI Remote article says the service is offline and under review, and points people looking for remote guests to VDO.Ninja. The article was updated 08/08/2025; check XSplit’s current status information before relying on NDI Remote, since service availability can change.

Troubleshooting an NDI feed

  • The source is missing from the list: Confirm that the sending application or device is providing an NDI feed and that both ends are in the expected local-network workflow. XSplit’s cited instructions do not document specific ports or firewall settings, so do not assume a particular network rule is required.
  • The picture stutters or audio and video drift apart: Change the source quality to Standard and check whether the feed stabilizes; XSplit identifies its lower bandwidth use as the reason to try this setting.
  • The feed appears but its audio is routed incorrectly: Revisit the source’s audio choice and select System Sound or Stream Only based on the intended routing in your production.
  • You need to bring in a guest over the internet: Do not treat local NDI setup as a remote-guest solution. XSplit’s NDI Remote article reports that service as offline and under review and directs users to VDO.Ninja.

Or let it run in the cloud

NDI with XSplit is for bringing a network feed into a production; it is not a way to keep a pre-recorded YouTube channel live around the clock. For that separate job, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos or playlists as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price, and it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
