Snapchat Web supports live Lenses for desktop Snaps and video chats, but it does not clearly reproduce every post-capture Filter available in the mobile app. To use Snapchat effects in another browser service, such as Google Meet or Zoom, install Snapchat Camera for Chrome and select it as your virtual camera.
Filters and Lenses are not the same
Snapchat uses two different terms:

Snapchat’s official Web instructions specifically document using the Lens icon to take a photo or video. Snapchat’s general Filter instructions describe a mobile workflow in which you swipe left or right after capturing a Snap. As a result, the reliably documented Snapchat Web experience is its Lens workflow—not a guaranteed copy of the full mobile Filter carousel.
How to use a Lens on Snapchat Web
- Open a current version of Snapchat for Web in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari.
- Sign in at
web.snapchat.com. Snapchat may require the same account to be active in the mobile app. - Allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks. Camera access is needed for Snaps and video calls; microphone access is needed for calls.
- Select Camera.
- Click the Lens icon at the bottom of the camera interface.
- Choose an available Lens.
- Click the Lens icon to take a photo. Press and hold it to record a video.
- Use the controls Snapchat presents to review, send or save the resulting Snap.
The exact placement of controls can change as Snapchat updates its Web interface. Use the labels Camera and Lens rather than relying on an old screenshot or tutorial.

Snapchat notes that some World Lenses are not available on every device, so a missing Lens does not necessarily mean that Snapchat Web is malfunctioning.

How to use effects during a Snapchat Web video call
Snapchat for Web supports video chats, and Snapchat says Face Lenses can be used during video chats.
- Open Snapchat for Web.
- Open an individual or group Chat.
- Click the video-camera icon to start the call.
- Once the call is active, look for the Lens or effects control in the call interface.
- Choose a Face Lens.
The desktop control may move or look different as the Web interface changes. If no effect control appears, check that Snapchat has camera permission, that the intended camera is selected and that no other application is controlling the camera.

Can you add a traditional Filter after taking a Snap on Snapchat Web?
On mobile Snapchat, the documented process is to create a Snap and then swipe left or right to select a Filter. Snapchat also says that multiple Filters can be layered with the layer control. Details such as temperature or time may instead appear in the sticker drawer.

On Snapchat Web, however, Snapchat’s current camera instructions emphasize selecting a Lens before capture and do not clearly document an equivalent full mobile-style Filter carousel. You can look for a post-capture swipe or overlay control if it appears in your account, but do not assume that every mobile Filter—including location, temperature, time, event or sponsored overlays—will be available on desktop.
If you specifically need the broadest post-capture Filter selection, use the Snapchat mobile app. Snapchat Web is the better fit for desktop capture, chat, calls and live Lenses.

How to use Snapchat effects in Google Meet, Zoom or Teams
If your goal is to make other people see Snapchat effects in a browser-based meeting or recording service, web.snapchat.com is not the right tool by itself. Use Snapchat Camera for Chrome, which creates a virtual camera.
- Install Snapchat Camera for Chrome from the Chrome Web Store.
- Sign in with your Snapchat account.
- Open the browser-based meeting, streaming or recording service.
- Open that service’s camera settings.
- Select Snapchat Camera instead of your laptop’s built-in camera.
- Open the Snapchat Camera icon from Chrome’s Extensions menu.
- Choose a Lens in the extension panel.
The extension is a public preview, and it only works when the web application accepts custom camera sources. The Chrome Web Store listing gives examples including Google Meet, Microsoft Teams on the Web, Zoom on the Web, Amazon Chime, StreamYard, Restream, Loom, Clipchamp, Canva, WeVideo, Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram and VEED.

Discord Web is an explicit exception in the listing because its app does not currently support custom cameras. Do not expect Snapchat Camera to appear there as a selectable source.

The old standalone Snap Camera desktop application is no longer available. Avoid older tutorials that tell you to download it. Snapchat’s current replacement options are Snapchat for Web for Snapchat calls and Snaps, or Snapchat Camera for Chrome for supported browser-based services.

Troubleshooting
Snapchat Web will not open
- Use a current version of Chrome, Edge or Safari.
- Update the Snapchat mobile app.
- Confirm that the same Snapchat account is being used on your phone and Web.
- Sign out and sign back in.
- Remember that Snapchat says only one computer can be logged into Snapchat for Web at a time.
The camera does not appear
- Grant camera permission to
web.snapchat.com. - Check whether another application is using the camera.
- Test the camera in another application or website.
- If several cameras are connected, select the intended source.
- Refresh Snapchat after changing permission settings.
You can review access under your browser’s site permissions. Snapchat also provides instructions for changing its Web camera and microphone permissions in its permissions guide.
The microphone or call audio fails
- Grant microphone permission to Snapchat.
- Check the computer’s input and output devices.
- Make sure the browser tab is not muted.
- Temporarily disconnect Bluetooth headphones to test for a device-selection problem.
- Choose another microphone source if the call interface provides that option.
Snapchat Camera is missing from Meet or Zoom
- Confirm that the Chrome extension is installed and signed in.
- Open the service’s camera settings after installing the extension.
- Select Snapchat Camera, not the built-in webcam.
- Open Chrome’s Extensions menu and select a Lens.
- Refresh or restart the meeting if the new camera is not listed.
- Check whether the service supports custom cameras.
A Lens is unavailable
Try another Lens, update the browser and test the effect in the mobile Snapchat app. Some Lenses, including some World Lenses, may not be available on every device.

Privacy reminder
Camera and microphone access are required for the relevant features, so grant them only to the service you intend to use. A Lens does not prevent someone from capturing what they see: Snapchat warns that another person can take a screenshot or photograph the screen with another device.
