Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteUse the stream description and a pinned live-chat message to point viewers to one relevant channel video, then add accurate chapters to that destination video so they can find the promised section. The handoff depends on where people watch: links in horizontal live chat are clickable, but links in the vertical live feed in YouTube’s mobile app are not.
Choose the right handoff for the video you want viewers to watch
Start with a specific viewer need: a documentary explainer, a related episode, a highlight, or a tutorial. Send viewers to one upload when it answers that need; use a playlist when the next step is a sequence. Make the invitation say what they will get, such as “See how the investigation reached this conclusion,” rather than simply “Watch more.”
Use the description and live chat for the direct link. Chapters help viewers navigate once they arrive; chapters do not create a link from the live stream to the upload. For a further step after the viewer reaches an eligible upload, use an end screen. Live Redirect is for moving an audience to a Premiere or another live stream, not an ordinary uploaded video.
Put the destination where viewers can find it
Place the link and reason near the top of the description
Open YouTube Studio and edit the live stream’s description. Put the destination URL and a short explanation in the opening lines, before less important details. Viewers have to expand the description to see the rest, so a link buried lower down is easier to miss. Keep each stream’s description specific to its destination, and use a playlist link when a sequence is more useful than a single video. YouTube’s guidance on descriptions is at Tips for video descriptions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Post and pin the link in horizontal live chat
- Open the live stream’s chat while signed in to the channel that is streaming.
- Post a concise message with the destination URL and a clear reason to visit. For example: “For the full explanation of the archive footage, watch ‘How the Film Was Found’: [URL].”
- Open the message’s options menu and choose the pin option. Confirm if YouTube asks.
- Check that the intended message is pinned. If you replace it later, pin the new message; only one chat message can be pinned at a time, and only the creator can pin or replace it.
Creators can pin their own message or a viewer’s message. A pinned message is a useful live-chat prompt, but it is not a permanent substitute for the description: another message can replace it. YouTube’s instructions are in Get started with live streaming — pin messages.
Account for vertical live viewing on mobile
YouTube’s link behavior differs by viewing surface. A live-chat URL is clickable in a horizontal live stream. In the vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app, links in live chat and the channel description are non-clickable. If viewers may be watching vertically, say so plainly and include a recognizable video or channel title they can search for; make the title distinctive enough to find. See YouTube’s Sharing links with your audiences and Manage live stream settings.

Add chapters to the destination upload
Chapters divide an uploaded video into labeled sections with individual previews. They are useful when a viewer arrives from a live stream looking for a particular explanation or moment. Add them to the destination video’s description, not the live chat.
- In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the destination video, and edit its description.
- Add a timestamp and concise chapter label for each distinct section. Make the first timestamp
00:00. - Include at least three timestamps in ascending order. Each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.
- Save the description and check the video to ensure the labels match the moments they identify and the promise made in the live pin.
For example, a documentary upload might use 00:00 Introduction, 02:14 The recovered footage, and 05:36 What the records show—provided those moments actually begin at those times and each section satisfies the minimum duration. Do not send viewers to a chapter label that overstates or misidentifies the content. YouTube’s requirements are described in Video Chapters.

Compare the available routes
| Method | Best destination | Where it appears and link behavior | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live-chat message, pinned | One ordinary upload or playlist | Horizontal live chat: URL clickable. Vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app: URL non-clickable. | Only one message can be pinned at a time; only the creator can pin or replace it. |
| Opening lines of stream description | One ordinary upload or playlist | Viewers may need to expand the description. In the vertical live feed in the YouTube mobile app, channel-description links are non-clickable. | Put the main destination and reason first; keep the description relevant to the stream. |
| Chapters on the destination upload | A section within the video the viewer has opened | Navigation within the uploaded video; it does not link the live stream to that video. | First timestamp 00:00; at least three timestamps; each chapter at least 10 seconds. |
| End screen on an eligible upload | A chosen video or playlist | Appears in the final 5–20 seconds of the upload. | Video must be at least 25 seconds long; some formats and surfaces are excluded. Review available end-screen metrics in Analytics. |
| Live Redirect | A Premiere or another live stream | Moves viewers after a live stream to the eligible live destination. | Sending creator must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. It is not a route to an ordinary upload. |
Use an end screen to continue the journey
On an eligible related upload, add a specific-video or playlist end-screen element so viewers have a next step after they arrive. In YouTube Studio, edit the video and open the end-screen editor; place the element in the final portion of the video and check that it does not cover essential credits or visuals. End screens can appear in the last 5–20 seconds, and the video must be at least 25 seconds long. Some formats and viewing surfaces are excluded, so check the preview and available Analytics rather than assuming every viewer will see the element. Details: Add end screens to videos.
When Live Redirect is the right tool
Use Live Redirect only when the desired next destination is a Premiere or another live stream. The sending creator needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Schedule the Premiere first, configure the redirect in the live setup, and tell viewers to wait briefly after the original stream ends for the screen to reload. It does not hand viewers off to a regular uploaded documentary or tutorial. See How to use YouTube Live Redirect.

Troubleshoot a missed or ineffective handoff
- The link cannot be clicked: The viewer may be in YouTube’s vertical live feed on mobile. Provide a recognizable video title to search for and keep the destination URL in the stream description for surfaces where it is clickable.
- The wrong chat message is pinned, or no message is pinned: Only the creator can pin or replace a message, and just one can be pinned at a time. Pin the intended message from the creator account and verify it in chat.
- The description link is hard to find: Move it and its reason into the opening lines, where viewers are more likely to see them before expanding the rest.
- A chapter does not appear as intended: Check that the first timestamp is 00:00, there are at least three timestamps in ascending order, and each chapter lasts at least 10 seconds. Make labels accurate and save the description.
- The end screen is missing: Confirm the upload is at least 25 seconds long, the element is placed within the final 5–20 seconds, and the video format and surface are eligible.
- Live Redirect does not send viewers to the uploaded video: Redirect is designed for a Premiere or another live stream. Use the description and pinned chat link for ordinary uploads.

Why can’t I click links in a vertical live stream?
YouTube lists links in live chat and the channel description as non-clickable in the vertical live feed in its mobile app. Give viewers a recognizable video title they can search for.
