How to Use a Podcast RSS Feed to Update a YouTube Playlist Automatically

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can automate a YouTube playlist from a podcast RSS feed, but the right method depends on what you want added. For new audio episodes published to YouTube, use YouTube Studio’s RSS podcast feature where it is available. To add existing YouTube videos to a playlist, connect an RSS trigger to a playlist action in an automation tool such as Zapier. Neither method, by itself, turns a podcast feed into a continuous YouTube Live broadcast.

First, distinguish a playlist from a live broadcast

A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos. A YouTube Live broadcast is a separate video event associated with a live stream. The YouTube Live Streaming API manages broadcasts and streams; it is not the tool that converts podcast feed entries into playlist videos. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes those separate resources.

Choose the workflow by its output: publishing podcast episodes as videos, adding already-existing YouTube videos to a playlist, or running a continuous live stream are three different jobs.

Choose the right RSS workflow

What you want Suitable route What it does not do
Publish new audio podcast episodes to YouTube YouTube Studio’s RSS podcast ingestion, if available in your region It creates videos using show art; it does not import a finished episode video from the podcast host.
Add existing YouTube videos to a playlist when feed items arrive An RSS trigger connected to YouTube’s “Add Video to Playlist” action, such as the documented Zapier integration The playlist action does not establish that an audio-only enclosure is converted into a YouTube video.
Play new podcast audio continuously as a YouTube Live stream A separate media playback and live-streaming workflow A playlist automation recipe is not an RSS-to-live-stream pipeline.

Publish podcast episodes from RSS with YouTube Studio

YouTube’s native RSS ingestion is designed for audio-first podcasts. It creates a video for each selected episode using the show’s artwork as a static image, uploads that video to your channel, and can automatically upload new episodes when they appear in the feed. Availability is limited to selected countries or regions, so check the current option in your channel before planning around it. See YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Confirm regional availability. Open YouTube Studio and check the podcast creation or RSS setup options for your channel. If the feature is not offered, this native route is not available to that channel.
  2. Prepare the podcast feed. Use the RSS feed for the show and make sure its episodes and show artwork are correct. The resulting YouTube videos use that artwork as a static image.
  3. Connect the feed to the podcast in YouTube Studio. Follow the Studio prompts to select the feed and choose which episodes to upload.
  4. Review uploads before making the podcast public. YouTube recommends waiting until selected episodes have uploaded if upload problems are possible. Check the resulting videos and resolve any copyright or monetization issues before publishing.
  5. Keep the feed current. After setup, new episodes appearing in the feed can be uploaded automatically. This publishes episodes as videos; it does not create a live broadcast.

Add existing YouTube videos to a playlist with Zapier

Zapier documents an RSS new-item trigger paired with a YouTube “Add Video to Playlist” action. This works when a feed item can be mapped to an existing YouTube video. It is not evidence that the action takes an audio enclosure and makes a video from it. See Zapier’s RSS by Zapier + YouTube integration and its RSS-to-YouTube playlist template.

  1. Create an automation and select the RSS trigger. Provide the feed URL. Zapier’s trigger setup supports a single-feed or multiple-feed option; its guidance recommends using a distinct GUID or URL as the trigger criterion for most cases. See Zapier’s RSS trigger instructions.
  2. Test with a real feed item. Confirm the trigger exposes a stable identifier for deduplication and a usable YouTube video ID or URL. If it only contains audio, first make sure a corresponding YouTube video exists through another publishing path.
  3. Add the YouTube action. Choose the action that adds a video to one of the authenticated account’s playlists, then map the existing video and target playlist fields.
  4. Connect and authorize YouTube. Zapier requires a YouTube account connection and permission to act on it. Role requirements can differ for personal, Brand, and Content Manager accounts; follow the prompts for the account you are connecting. See Zapier’s YouTube connection instructions.
  5. Test the complete workflow before turning it on. Verify that the intended existing video is added to the intended playlist, and check how the trigger behaves when the same item is encountered again.

Automation timing and plan limits can change. Zapier’s integration page displayed a 15-minute polling interval for its Free plan when reviewed on 2026-10-03; treat that as a changeable plan detail, not a guaranteed delivery time.

Build a custom feed-to-playlist workflow with the YouTube Data API

For custom filtering or tighter control, monitor the feed, identify new items, ensure each has a YouTube video, and then insert that video into the playlist. The final step is the Data API method playlistItems.insert: it requires the playlist ID and video ID and uses OAuth authorization. The method adds an existing video; it does not convert podcast audio into video. See YouTube Data API: playlistItems.insert.

  1. Monitor the feed and deduplicate. Track a stable feed identifier such as a GUID or item URL so polling does not repeatedly process the same episode.
  2. Ensure a video exists. Use the video ID for the YouTube episode you want in the playlist. If the feed provides only an audio enclosure, arrange video creation or publication separately.
  3. Authorize the channel. Make the API request with OAuth credentials authorized for the Google Account that owns the broadcasting channel. YouTube’s Live API overview likewise states that Data API requests must be authorized by the account that owns the channel.
  4. Insert the playlist item. Call playlistItems.insert with the destination playlist ID and existing video ID, then handle API errors and record successful inserts to avoid duplicates.

If the goal is continuous live playback

A podcast-to-playlist workflow does not keep a YouTube Live broadcast running. Live broadcasting uses a distinct broadcast resource bound to a stream, as explained in Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API overview. The documentation cited here does not establish a native podcast RSS-to-continuous-live-playback pipeline. Treat the media playback, stream management, and feed monitoring as a separate system rather than assuming that new playlist items will automatically become a live program.

If you have recorded videos and want a continuous YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. • Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
  • It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.

Troubleshooting

  • You cannot find RSS setup in Studio: the feature is available only in selected regions. Check the current Studio options for your channel; use another route if it is not offered.
  • A Zapier run has no video to add: the feed may contain only an audio enclosure. Publish or create the corresponding YouTube video first, then map its video ID or URL.
  • The wrong video is added or items repeat: inspect the trigger sample and field mapping, use a stable GUID or URL to identify feed items, and test the workflow with a known episode before enabling it.
  • The YouTube action cannot access a playlist: reconnect the account and review the authorization and role for the channel type you are using.
  • The API insert is rejected: check that the request is authorized by the account that owns the channel and that both the playlist ID and video ID identify the intended resources.
  • You expected a live stream to start: adding an item to a playlist is not equivalent to creating or maintaining a broadcast. Configure a separate live-streaming workflow if continuous playback is the requirement.
