To turn on subtitles on Peacock, start a video, open the playback controls, choose the speech-bubble Audio & Subtitles menu, then select an available subtitle or closed-caption track. The controls look a little different across TVs, phones, and browsers, but that menu is the main place to start.
Turn on subtitles: the quick steps
- Start the show, movie, or live program.
- Bring up the player controls: pause and press Up on a TV or streaming-device remote; tap the video on a phone or tablet; or move your pointer over the video in a browser.
- Select the speech-bubble icon or Audio & Subtitles.
- Choose the subtitle or closed-caption track you want, then resume playback.
Peacock’s official subtitle instructions use this menu for connected devices and mobile devices. Icon position and menu wording can vary by platform. After selecting a track, allow up to about 30 seconds for captions to appear.
Steps by device
Smart TV, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or game console
- Play the content and pause it to show the controls.
- Press Up on the remote, then navigate right to the speech-bubble icon labeled Audio & Subtitles.
- Select the subtitle option you want and return to playback.
This is Peacock’s documented route for connected TVs, streaming devices, and consoles. Remote buttons and on-screen layouts differ between models, so look for the speech bubble if the navigation is not exactly as described. Peacock lists supported platform categories on its device and platform support page; not every model in a category necessarily has identical controls.

Roku and Roku TV
Try Peacock’s own Audio & Subtitles menu first. Roku also has system-level caption controls, and some apps use those settings while others manage captions inside the app. If Roku’s Star/Options playback menu offers a caption setting, you can check it, but changing Roku’s global setting may not affect Peacock. Roku explains this app-by-app distinction in its closed-captioning guidance.

iPhone, iPad, or Android phone/tablet
- Start playback.
- Tap anywhere on the video to reveal the controls.
- Tap the speech-bubble icon.
- Choose the subtitle track.
Peacock documents this tap-to-open path for mobile and tablet devices. Its currently listed minimums include iOS 16 or later and Android 7.0 or later; requirements can change, so check Peacock’s current device list if the app is unavailable or behaving unexpectedly.
Computer browser
Start playback at PeacockTV.com, move your pointer over the video to show the controls, and open the speech-bubble or Audio & Subtitles menu. Select a subtitle track. The control’s exact placement can differ with the browser and player layout.

Turn subtitles off or change their language
Use the same in-player menu: open Audio & Subtitles, then choose Off, None, or the equivalent disabled option to turn captions off. To switch languages, select another listed track. The wording and languages available depend on the platform and the specific title; if a language is not listed, it may not be supplied for that program.

Make captions easier to read
Peacock says caption sizing, font, and color can be customized through account settings. Look in your Peacock account settings for caption appearance options. Depending on the device, you may also find controls for text size, color, background, opacity, or outline in the device’s accessibility settings. Not every option is available on every platform.

If one set of appearance controls has no effect, the other layer may be styling the captions. On Apple devices, check Settings → Accessibility → Subtitles & Captioning; Apple also provides a Closed Captions + SDH option on supported devices. These preferences may apply to apps that honor Apple’s system settings, but Peacock’s player menu is still the best first step.
Subtitles, closed captions, and audio description
Subtitles typically transcribe spoken dialogue and may translate it. Closed captions can also include speaker identification and meaningful sounds such as music or effects. Peacock uses “subtitles” and “closed captioning” in overlapping ways in its accessibility help, so the names in the player may not always signal two separate features.

Audio description is different: it is an alternate audio track that describes visual details such as actions or scene changes for people who are blind or have low vision. It may appear in the same Audio & Subtitles menu, but it is spoken narration, not on-screen text. Peacock says audio description is available for many shows and movies.

- Check another full episode or movie. Peacock says captions are available across its content on supported platforms with rare exceptions, including some trailers. A missing option on one item may be a title limitation, not a device fault.
- Make sure playback has started. Open the player controls during the video, rather than looking for captions on the title-information screen.
- Reveal controls for your device. On a TV, pause and press Up; on a phone or tablet, tap the video; in a browser, move the pointer over it.
- Wait briefly. Peacock says captions may take about 30 seconds to appear after selection.
- Restart the video. Exit the episode or movie and start it again, then reselect the track.
- Reopen Peacock and check for updates. Force-close the app, reopen it, and install available Peacock-app or device updates.
- Restart the device. This can help with a temporary playback issue, though it is not a guarantee.
- Test another device or title. If captions work elsewhere, the issue is more likely specific to the original app, device, or title than to every Peacock stream.
- Contact Peacock Customer Care if the option is missing across multiple titles and supported devices. Peacock directs viewers with persistent accessibility or content-specific caption problems to Customer Care.
A TV or streaming device may manage captions differently from Peacock’s player, and app versions can show different labels. On Roku in particular, a system caption setting may not control an app that handles captions internally. Avoid assuming that a device-wide setting overrides Peacock’s in-player choice.
