To watch NFL Sunday Ticket, allow YouTube or YouTube TV to verify your current location. On a TV, start the location check in the app and complete it on a phone or computer when prompted. On a phone or computer, enable location access for the app or browser, then update your current playback area. This verifies where you are watching; it does not unlock games restricted in your local market.
Before you start
- Use the Google account that purchased Sunday Ticket and confirm that the subscription is active.
- Open the service through which you bought it: YouTube TV or YouTube Primetime Channels in the YouTube app. Sunday Ticket is not an NFL+ subscription. NFL Support explains where Sunday Ticket is available.
- Turn on location services for the device, and allow location access for the relevant app or browser. These are separate permissions.
- Turn off a VPN or proxy while verifying your location; either can interfere with playback. YouTube TV’s location instructions include VPN and proxy troubleshooting.
The steps below apply to residential viewing in the United States. Availability and service arrangements differ by country, and YouTube TV is U.S.-only. YouTube TV’s restrictions and location guidance describes location-based limits.

Verify location on a TV or streaming device
A smart TV does not necessarily need its own GPS. The TV app can ask you to complete verification on a nearby phone, tablet, or computer, then refresh the stream.

- Open the YouTube TV app on the TV and select your profile picture.
- Choose Location, then Current playback area, and select Update.
- On the phone or computer, open tv.youtube.com/verify if prompted. Sign in with the Google account that purchased Sunday Ticket.
- Allow the site to access the device’s location and complete the on-screen check.
- Return to the TV, close and reopen the game, and try playback again. Google documents this TV-to-phone flow in its current playback area instructions.
If you bought Sunday Ticket as a YouTube Primetime Channel
- Open the YouTube app on the TV and select the Sunday Ticket game or its location-verification prompt.
- If a QR code appears, scan it with your phone. Otherwise, open youtube.com/locate on the phone.
- Sign in to the account used to buy the channel. Select Update or Add location if shown, then allow YouTube to use the phone’s location.
- Return to the TV app and retry the game. YouTube’s NFL game-day setup instructions cover Primetime Channel playback and location checks.
Turn on location access on a phone or tablet
Android
- Open YouTube TV, tap your profile picture, and tap Location.
- Tap Update beside Current playback area, then grant location access when Android asks.
- If you previously denied permission, open Settings → Apps (or Apps & notifications) → YouTube TV or YouTube → Permissions → Location. Allow access, then repeat the update.
- If verification opens in a browser, also allow location for that browser when prompted.

iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, and turn on Location Services.
- In the app list, select YouTube TV or YouTube and choose While Using the App or the location option offered by your iOS version.
- If you are completing a web verification, allow location for Safari or your other browser as well.
- Reopen the app, go to Profile picture → Location → Current playback area, and update it.

Verify location in a web browser
- Go to tv.youtube.com and sign in to the purchasing account.
- Select your profile picture → Location → Update beside Current playback area.
- If asked, open tv.youtube.com/verify and choose Allow when the browser requests location access.
If the browser previously blocked the request, change its site permission. In Chrome, open the three-dot menu → Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Location. Make sure YouTube or YouTube TV is not blocked, then reload the verification page. Work- or school-managed Chrome devices may have location settings controlled by an administrator. Current playback area and home area are different
Your current playback area is where you are watching now. Your home area is the permanent location associated with your YouTube TV account. If you travel, update the current playback area; changing the home area is not the right fix for a temporary trip.
Travel can change which local programming is available. YouTube TV says frequent travelers should use the service in their home area at least once every three months. Google also limits home-area changes: you cannot change it if you have already changed it twice in the previous 12 months or if you are not currently in the new home area. Check Google’s home-area and playback-area guidance before changing the permanent setting.

Why a game may still be unavailable
- The game is in your local market. Sunday Ticket primarily carries out-of-market Sunday afternoon regular-season games. A game carried locally by CBS or FOX may not be available through Sunday Ticket in your current viewing area. Location verification does not override broadcast restrictions. - You are traveling. The current area, rather than your home area, affects local programming and game availability.
- You are signed into the wrong Google account. Switch to the account that bought Sunday Ticket, both on the TV and the verification device.
- You are using a different YouTube product than the one you purchased. Check whether the subscription is a YouTube TV add-on or a YouTube Primetime Channel.
- A VPN or proxy is active. Disable it and retry verification using the device’s actual connection.
- The app or browser has stale data. Close and reopen it; if a browser verification keeps looping, clear its cache and cookies.
- The platform or event has a separate restriction. Local and viewing restrictions can depend on location, device, platform, and partner rules; check YouTube TV’s location restrictions.
If location verification keeps failing
- Update the YouTube or YouTube TV app.
- Check that device-level location services are on and that the relevant app or browser has permission.
- Start verification again from the prompt on the TV and use the exact page it requests: tv.youtube.com/verify for YouTube TV, or youtube.com/locate for YouTube Primetime Channels.
- Confirm the TV and verification device are signed in to the Google account used for the purchase.
- Turn off VPNs, proxies, or other services that mask location. If verification loops in a browser, clear cache and cookies.
- Restart the phone, TV, and streaming device, then try a different supported phone or browser if available.
- If the detected location or market is still wrong, contact YouTube support. For live streaming, Google recommends a connection of at least 7 Mbps; if location verification succeeds but playback buffers, check the connection separately. See YouTube TV game-day setup and troubleshooting.
Do you need YouTube TV to watch Sunday Ticket?
No. YouTube TV is required when Sunday Ticket is purchased as a YouTube TV add-on, but a YouTube Primetime Channel can be purchased separately. Both viewing routes use YouTube apps, though features can vary by platform and purchase route. YouTube’s purchase and billing guidance describes the options. A location check confirms viewing area; it is not a subscription and cannot bypass local-market rules.
