English subtitles appear in SVT Play only when SVT has supplied an English subtitle track for that specific Roxette program. Start the video, open the player’s subtitle or accessibility menu, and choose English if it is listed. If English is missing, the menu cannot create a translation. At the time checked, the official Konsert: Roxette listing said “Inga avsnitt finns tillgängliga just nu” (no episodes are currently available) and “Kan bara ses i Sverige” (can only be viewed in Sweden), so there was no playable episode on which to enable English captions and viewers outside Sweden could be blocked by rights restrictions.
What you need to know first
SVT Play separates the existence of subtitles from the language of those subtitles. SVT’s general accessibility information says, “Alla program som sänds i SVT textas” (all programs broadcast on SVT are subtitled). That statement covers captioning in general, including live and recorded broadcasts; it does not promise that every title has an English translation. A Roxette program can therefore have Swedish captions, another accessibility mode, or no currently playable episode without offering English.
The current status of the official Konsert: Roxette page is especially important. It says “Inga avsnitt finns tillgängliga just nu.” When a listing has no available episode, there is no active player session and consequently no subtitle track to select. The same page says “Kan bara ses i Sverige.” A viewer connecting from another country may be denied access even if an episode later becomes available, because subtitle controls do not override territorial rights.
Availability, geographic permissions and subtitle tracks can change when SVT republishes, removes or replaces a program. Check the listing again when you are ready to watch rather than treating a previous result as permanent.

How to turn on English subtitles when a Roxette episode is playable
- Open the Roxette program page in SVT Play. Use the current listing for the program, not an old bookmark to an expired episode.
- Start an episode or live stream. Subtitle choices are made from inside the player. They are not selected from the program description page before playback begins.
- Open the player’s subtitle or accessibility control. SVT places subtitle choices in this control area. The icon and wording can vary between the web player and different app versions, so look for the control that opens language captions or accessibility options.
- Choose English. Select it only if English appears as a language in the menu. The selection applies to the current playback session and may take a moment to load.
- Confirm that the captions are translating the program. Spoken dialogue should appear in English. If the text is Swedish, you selected Swedish captions rather than an English track.
- If English is absent, inspect the other listed choices. Swedish captions may be available. You may also see Tydligare tal (Clearer speech), which changes the audio mix to make voices easier to hear but does not translate speech.
- If no episode plays, solve availability first. A message that no episodes are available, or that the program is limited to Sweden, must be resolved through SVT’s rights and catalog availability. Subtitle settings cannot bypass those restrictions.
Where to look for the subtitle button
SVT’s published accessibility guidance identifies the subtitle selector as the place where you can turn on Tydligare tal: “Du kan slå på Tydligare tal där du väljer undertext” (you can turn on Clearer speech where you choose subtitles). This confirms the relationship between the two controls, but SVT does not publish a device-by-device button map for the Roxette listing. The exact icon, label or menu position can therefore differ by app version.
| Playback environment | What to do | What to expect | If the option is missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web browser | Begin playback, then open the player control for subtitles or accessibility. | A language list appears only when the current stream has caption tracks. | Check that the episode is actually playing and reload the page. If English is still not listed, SVT has not exposed an English track for that session. |
| SVT Play mobile or tablet app | Start the episode and open the in-player subtitle/accessibility menu rather than the app’s general settings. | The available languages are tied to that title and stream. | Update or restart the app if the player controls do not appear, then check the language list again. The exact control label is not stated by SVT and may vary by version. |
| TV app or connected television | Start playback and use the remote to open the on-screen subtitle/accessibility control. | The menu may use a symbol instead of a full word; choose English only when it is explicitly listed. | Verify that the TV app is playing an SVT stream rather than a device-level media player. If English is not offered in the stream menu, television settings cannot generate it. |
The table describes the decision that is consistent across devices: subtitle language is a property of the SVT stream. It does not establish a universal icon or button sequence for every hardware model, operating system or app release.
English captions, Swedish captions and Tydligare tal are different options
| Option | What it does | When to choose it | What it cannot do |
|---|---|---|---|
| English | Displays an English subtitle track supplied by SVT for that specific program. | Choose it when you need translated on-screen text and English is present in the menu. | It cannot be selected if SVT has not attached an English track, and it cannot be created by changing another caption language. |
| Swedish subtitles | Displays the Swedish captions available for the program, subject to the stream’s options. | Useful when you understand Swedish or want captions in the original language. | They do not translate Swedish dialogue into English. |
| Tydligare tal (Clearer speech) | Reduces background sound and makes voices clearer, according to SVT’s accessibility description. | Use it when dialogue is difficult to hear, especially in music or concert audio. | It is an audio aid, not a subtitle language and not a translation. |
A music program can contain songs, interviews and stage announcements with different captioning needs. Even when Swedish captions are available, that does not imply that every lyric, spoken introduction or on-screen element has an English equivalent. The only reliable test is whether English appears as a selectable track for the actual stream.

Why you cannot find English captions for Roxette
The listing has no playable episode
The official Konsert: Roxette page currently reports that no episodes are available. Without an episode or live stream, the player cannot load any subtitle menu. This is a catalog or rights condition, not a setting that can be corrected on your device.
The program is restricted to Sweden
The listing also states that it can only be viewed in Sweden. SVT’s language-and-accessibility catalog is filtered by program rights, including whether a title can be viewed outside Sweden. A viewer abroad may therefore see an unavailable page, an access message or no playable stream. Changing the subtitle language does not alter those rights.
SVT supplied captions, but not an English track
SVT’s promise that programs are subtitled is a general captioning policy. It does not say that every broadcast is translated. If the menu contains Swedish but no English, the program has captions in the languages SVT supplied; the player has no translation track to turn on.

The player control is hidden or labelled differently
SVT does not provide a Roxette-specific device map in its accessibility information. A mobile, web or television interface can present the same function under a different icon or label. Look for the control that opens subtitle and accessibility choices, rather than searching only for a button literally named “English subtitles.”
The stream changed after you last watched
Program rights and episode availability are time-sensitive. An English track can disappear when a replay window ends, or a new stream can expose a different set of languages. Reopen the current program page and inspect the options on the active stream.

- Can you start playback? If not, read the message on the program page. “Inga avsnitt finns tillgängliga just nu” means there is no episode to play at that moment. A Sweden-only notice indicates a geographic rights limit.
- Is the stream playing but the control is missing? Tap or move the pointer over the video to reveal player controls, then look for subtitle or accessibility settings. On a television, press the remote button that reveals the playback overlay.
- Does the menu list English? Select it and wait for captions to appear. If it is not listed, do not choose Swedish or Tydligare tal expecting an automatic translation.
- Does the menu list only Swedish? Use Swedish captions if they help, or enable Tydligare tal for clearer audio. The absence of English is evidence that SVT has not supplied that track for the current session.
- Does the menu change between devices? Compare the active stream, not just the app interface. If one device shows no episode while another does, check whether both are signed in from the same region and are using the same current listing. Rights filtering can make catalogs differ by location.
- Are captions delayed or absent after selecting English? Stop and restart the stream, then reopen the subtitle menu. If English disappears after restarting, the track may not be available on that version of the stream; there is no player setting that can manufacture it.
Watching from outside Sweden
The current Roxette listing is marked “Kan bara ses i Sverige.” That wording is a viewing-rights statement, not a subtitle-language statement. It means a viewer outside Sweden may be unable to play the program regardless of whether an English track exists in SVT’s catalog.
SVT’s language-and-accessibility catalog takes program rights into account, including out-of-Sweden viewing. Consequently, the language list you see is conditional on both the title and your permitted playback location. If a program later becomes available internationally, its subtitle choices still need to be checked in the player; international availability alone does not prove that English captions were added.
Do not treat the subtitle menu as a way around geographic restrictions. If the page blocks playback, the appropriate next step is to wait for a rights change or use an officially available listing in your permitted region.

What to check when a Roxette release returns
- Program status: Confirm that the page shows an episode or live stream instead of “Inga avsnitt finns tillgängliga just nu.”
- Geography: Read the viewing restriction. The current listing says it can only be viewed in Sweden.
- Active player: Start the stream before looking for language options.
- Subtitle menu: Open the player’s subtitle/accessibility selector, where SVT places caption choices.
- Language: Choose English only when it appears as a listed track.
- Accessibility alternative: If translation is unavailable, decide whether Swedish captions or Tydligare tal better fits your needs.
- Device differences: Expect icon and label variations between web, mobile and TV apps because a universal device-specific map is not published.
- Freshness: Recheck the options each time you return to the program; availability and rights can change.
What SVT’s captioning policy does and does not establish
SVT says that all programs broadcast on SVT are subtitled and that both live and recorded programs are captioned. This establishes a broad commitment to captions, but it leaves several title-level questions open: which language is offered, whether a particular replay still has captions, and whether the stream is available in a viewer’s country.
For Roxette, those title-level details matter more than the general policy. The official listing currently has no available episodes and carries a Sweden-only restriction. When a playable release appears, the in-player language list is the authoritative indication of whether English is included.
Bottom line for Roxette viewers
Open the playable Roxette stream, reveal SVT Play’s subtitle/accessibility menu and select English if it is listed. Swedish captions and Tydligare tal are useful alternatives but do not translate the program. At the time checked, Konsert: Roxette had no available episodes and was limited to viewing in Sweden, so English subtitles could not be enabled for that listing. Recheck the official page and the language menu whenever the program is republished.
