Netflix still offers an Autoplay previews control. The most reliable way to use it is to open your profile’s Playback settings in a web browser, switch the option off, and refresh any device that has not picked up the change. The setting controls trailers and clips that play while you browse; it does not control the next episode after a show ends.
Turn off Netflix previews in a web browser
Use this route on a computer or phone browser when the TV app does not show the setting.
- Open Netflix and go to Account.
- Open Profiles.
- Select the profile you want to change.
- Choose Playback settings.
- Turn off Autoplay previews.
- Leave the page; Netflix saves the preference automatically.
Netflix documents these steps at its Help Center. Because you select a profile before changing the option, repeat the process for every profile that should stop playing previews.

If previews still play
Work through these checks in order:
- Check the profile. Edit the same profile that is showing the previews. Other profiles may retain their own setting.
- Refresh the device. Switch to another Netflix profile and then switch back. If that does not work, sign out and sign in again.
- Use a browser. If the mobile app does not display the option, make the change through Account → Profiles → Playback settings.
- Check compatibility. Netflix says iPads and some older TVs and TV-streaming devices do not support preview autoplay, so the control may be missing or behave differently.
- Identify the type of autoplay. A trailer starting while you browse is controlled by Autoplay previews. The next episode starting after playback uses a different setting.

Stop the next episode from starting automatically
Turning off previews does not stop Netflix from launching the next episode. Change Autoplay Next Episode separately.
In a browser
Go to Account → Profiles → select a profile → Playback settings, then turn off Autoplay Next Episode. Netflix describes this control at https://help.netflix.com/en/node/121518.

Can you change the setting directly on a smart TV?
Netflix’s documented instructions provide browser and mobile-app routes, not a universal smart-TV remote menu. If the TV app has no Autoplay previews option, change the profile setting in a browser and then refresh the TV app by switching profiles or signing out and back in.

What turning off previews changes
- It stops trailers or promotional clips from starting automatically while you browse, where the device supports the feature.
- It does not necessarily remove title artwork, preview tiles, recommendations, or a manual option to play a trailer.
- It does not disable next-episode autoplay; that has its own control.
- Netflix does not publish a quantified data-saving figure for this setting, so any reduction in streaming activity depends on how you browse.
Quick reference
| What you want to stop | Setting or action |
|---|---|
| Trailers while browsing | Autoplay previews |
| The next episode after an episode ends | Autoplay Next Episode |
| Previews on another household member’s profile | Edit that profile separately |
| A TV that has not updated | Switch profiles and back, or sign out and sign in |
Labels and availability can vary by country, app version, profile type, and device. Netflix’s Help Center, checked August 18, 2026, remains the reference for supported devices and current menu wording.
