Use an SFTP app on your phone to copy the video directly to your VPS over SSH. First confirm the VPS address, port, login, destination folder, available disk space, and transfer limits. This puts a file on the VPS; it does not upload or publish the video on YouTube. If you meant publishing to YouTube, use YouTube’s separate resumable upload process instead.

For a straightforward phone-to-server copy, start with SFTP. Android users can use an SFTP-capable file-transfer app or, if comfortable with a terminal, Termux with OpenSSH. Termux describes access to remote servers using OpenSSH and lists rsync among available tools: Termux.
Prepare the VPS and phone
Collect the VPS connection details
Before connecting, get the VPS hostname or IP address, SSH/SFTP port, username, authentication method (password or SSH key), and destination directory. The port may not be the default SSH port, so use the value shown by your provider. Check that the account is permitted to use SFTP and that the destination is writable.
Check space and transfer limits
Confirm the VPS has enough free disk space for the complete file, with room for any other files or temporary copies you need. Review the provider’s bandwidth, monthly transfer, and file-size policies. A large upload can fail even with correct credentials if the disk fills or a provider limit is reached.

Locate the video on Android
Use the transfer app’s file picker to select the recording whenever possible. Android’s storage rules mean a terminal app may not be able to read another app’s private folder; do not assume a file is available at a guessed path. If needed, move or export the recording to a location the transfer app can access, such as an appropriate shared folder.
Transfer directly with SFTP
- Connect to the VPS. In an SFTP-capable app, enter the host, port supplied by your VPS provider, username, and chosen authentication method. Check the host key prompt carefully; do not accept an unexpected key change without verifying it.
- Open the intended remote directory. Navigate to the folder where the video should live and confirm it is the correct location and writable by your account.
- Select the local recording and upload it. Choose the video through the app’s file picker and start the transfer. SFTP runs over SSH, which encrypts the transfer in transit.
- Keep the transfer conditions stable. Use reliable Wi-Fi and keep the phone powered. Long transfers may be affected by battery-saving settings or an app being put to sleep; behavior varies by phone, Android version, and app. A VPS provider’s Android guidance also recommends stable Wi-Fi, checking free server storage, and avoiding aggressive app sleep settings; these are practical recommendations, not guarantees.
- Verify the remote result. Check that the VPS shows the expected file name and size. For stronger verification, compare a cryptographic hash calculated on the phone and VPS when your tools allow it. Hashing is an optional integrity check, not a substitute for confirming the upload completed.
Command-line option with OpenSSH
If you have an OpenSSH SFTP client in Termux and can access the recording’s path, connect with the provider’s host, port, and username, then use put to upload the local file. For example, once connected in the SFTP prompt:

Use paths that actually exist and that the Android app can read. OpenSSH SFTP’s -a option attempts to resume a partial transfer, but it assumes the partial remote file corresponds to the same local file; if it does not, the resulting file can be corrupted. See the OpenSSH sftp manual before relying on resume behavior. Do not treat a resumed transfer as verified until you check the completed file.
Use resumable cloud storage when the phone connection is unreliable
Google Cloud Storage supports resumable uploads, which send a file in multiple requests so an interrupted connection does not necessarily force a restart from byte zero. Google recommends this approach for large files or slow connections; a resumable session remains active for up to one week. - Upload the file from the phone to a cloud bucket using an app or workflow that supports the service’s resumable uploads.
- Copy the completed object from the bucket to the VPS using a suitable server-side transfer tool or download it to the VPS.
- Verify the resulting VPS file, and review the bucket permissions and lifecycle so the staged copy is not left accessible or stored longer than needed.
This adds a staging service. Check your account’s access permissions, storage charges, and any cloud-to-VPS egress charges for your specific configuration; no universal cost or speed can be inferred. Treat a resumable session URI as sensitive: Google says it acts as an authentication token, so protect it and share it only cautiously over HTTPS.
If you meant uploading the video to YouTube
Publishing to YouTube is a different operation from copying a file to a VPS. The YouTube Data API resumable protocol creates an upload session, accepts the file’s bytes, and lets a client query the upload state and resume from the server-reported range after an interruption. Google identifies large files and unstable or mobile-originating connections as suitable use cases. Follow the YouTube resumable upload protocol if YouTube is the destination. That workflow uploads into YouTube; it does not save the file in your VPS filesystem.

Choose an India VPS for the job
For a file-transfer workload, compare providers using verifiable details rather than assuming an India location guarantees a particular speed or data-residency outcome. Confirm the server’s actual region, usable disk, SSH/SFTP access, network-transfer policy, and total cost against your budget. One provider describes its India VPS as usable for file-server or S3-compatible object-storage roles and mentions rsync, rclone, or Restic over SSH; that is the provider’s own description, not independent evidence that it is fastest or best value. Confirm the current plan details directly before buying.

- Connection times out or is refused: Recheck the hostname, port, and whether SSH/SFTP access is enabled. Use the port supplied for your VPS rather than assuming the default.
- Authentication fails: Confirm the username and whether the server expects a password or the correct private key. Check that the account is allowed to access the target directory.
- The app cannot find the video: Select it through the Android file picker or export it to a location the app can read. A terminal app may not have access to another app’s private storage.
- Upload stops partway through: Check Wi-Fi stability, battery and app-sleep settings, server disk space, and provider transfer limits. If retrying with OpenSSH’s resume option, ensure the remote partial file belongs to the same unchanged local file.
- Transfer completes but the file is unusable: Compare remote and local file sizes, then compare hashes if available. A matching name alone does not establish that the contents arrived intact.
- The file is on the VPS, but not on YouTube: That is expected. Use YouTube’s publishing upload workflow separately if YouTube is the intended destination.
