Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe most accountable ways to support independent journalism covering Gaza are to give through an organization’s current official donation page, support journalist-protection and press-freedom advocacy, and check each recipient’s stated use of funds before paying. Direct contributions can help newsrooms commission reporting and pay journalists, while specialist programs may provide emergency assistance or working space. Advocacy for journalist safety and independent access addresses the conditions that make reporting possible.
No single route serves every purpose. A newsroom contribution, an emergency-support program and a press-freedom campaign operate at different points in the information system. The safest approach is to decide what kind of help you want to provide, compare the recipient’s published purpose and safeguards, and avoid promising an outcome the organization has not promised.
Choose the kind of support you want to provide
“Support journalism” can mean several different things. A newsroom may need money for reporting and basic operations; journalists may need emergency financial help or a safe place to work; and press-freedom groups may be campaigning for protection, accountability or access. Decide which of those outcomes matters most to you before opening a payment page.
| Route | Primary recipient | Stated focus | Typical giving form |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gazatte | Independent newsroom and its contributors | Ground reporting, contributor pay and newsroom operations | One-time or monthly contribution |
| Institute for Media and Society (IMS) | Journalists and independent Palestinian media outlets | Emergency assistance, workspaces, supplies, freelance opportunities and continuing support | Donation through its appeal |
| Filastiniyat | Journalists working in Gaza | Financial support, including help for people facing particular hardship | Donation through its official page |
| Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) | Journalist-protection and press-freedom advocacy | Protection, accountability and independent international access to Gaza | Advocacy or a contribution to the organization |
These routes are not interchangeable, and there is no independent, like-for-like impact ranking for them. Compare the recipient, purpose, disclosures and payment option rather than treating one donation as a universal answer.

Match the route to the result you want
If your priority is more reporting, a newsroom route is the closest match because Gazatte describes funding for ground reporting and the people who produce it. If your priority is helping journalists meet immediate needs or continue working, IMS and Filastiniyat describe assistance directed to journalists and independent Palestinian outlets. If your priority is changing the conditions under which reporting occurs, CPJ’s advocacy focuses on protection, accountability and access.
Those descriptions come from the organizations’ own pages. They explain intended use, not a guaranteed personal result. A donation to a newsroom is not the same as a grant to a named reporter; an advocacy contribution is not a subscription that buys a particular story; and an emergency program may have eligibility limits or changing availability.
What direct newsroom support can pay for
Gazatte’s stated use of contributions
Gazatte’s official support page offers both one-time and monthly contributions. It says money supports reporting from the ground and paid work for journalists, photographers, fixers, writers, translators, editors and researchers. It also lists newsroom costs such as hosting, security, source protection and editorial tools.
That list shows why a newsroom’s expenses extend beyond a byline. Reporting may require several contributors, translation and editing, while publication requires technical hosting, security and tools for protecting sources. A contribution can therefore support the reporting operation without being tied to one article or one person.

Gazatte’s editorial policy says funders, donors and advertisers do not influence coverage. That is an editorial-independence commitment published by Gazatte, not an independent audit. The support page says the organization plans to publish a first-year transparency report; do not treat that planned report as if it has already been released.
Read the policy as a disclosure to consider alongside the funding description. You can ask whether the page explains who makes editorial decisions, how donor influence is handled and what information will be reported about funds. The presence of a policy does not prove that every practice has been independently checked, but its absence also leaves you with less published information to assess.
If you choose this route, open the current support page from Gazatte’s own website, read the present wording, and select a one-time or recurring amount only after checking the payment screen and any donor terms. A recurring gift can provide predictable income, but it is also an ongoing commitment; review the cancellation process and confirmation email.
Questions to ask about a newsroom gift
- Does the page describe the gift as unrestricted, or does it name a particular campaign or program?
- Does the stated use include reporting, contributor pay and operating costs, or only one of those categories?
- Are donor-influence and editorial-independence rules published?
- Is the contribution one-time, monthly or another recurring interval?
- What confirmation and cancellation information appears after payment?
These questions do not produce a numerical impact score. They help you understand what you are authorizing and prevent an assumption that a general contribution buys a fixed quantity of coverage.

What journalist-support programs offer
Institute for Media and Society (IMS)
IMS describes a package of support rather than a newsroom subscription. Its appeal lists direct emergency financial assistance to journalists in Gaza, workspaces for women journalists, emergency supplies subject to availability, freelance job opportunities and continuing support intended to keep independent Palestinian media outlets operating.
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
The combination matters. Emergency assistance addresses immediate hardship; a workspace can help journalists continue working; freelance opportunities can create paid assignments; and continuing support is aimed at the survival of independent outlets. These are different forms of help within one appeal, so do not summarize the program as only a cash transfer or only an equipment drive.
“Subject to availability” matters: a published program description is not a promise that every listed item is available to every applicant at every moment. Before giving, read the current appeal for eligibility, geographic scope, payment methods and any updates to the program. Do not assume that a donation is assigned to a named journalist unless IMS explicitly says so.
If supplies are mentioned, check whether the current page explains how they are sourced and distributed. Do not substitute your own shopping list for the program’s process. A direct contribution lets the organization apply funds according to its stated priorities, which may change as conditions and availability change.
Filastiniyat
Filastiniyat’s donation page says it provides financial support to journalists working in northern and southern Gaza. Its description specifically includes unemployed journalists, pregnant journalists or those who recently gave birth, and journalists injured in the war.
The specificity identifies groups the page says the program includes; it does not mean that every person in one of those categories automatically qualifies or that a donor can choose an individual recipient. Eligibility, application procedures and the amount available can change, so consult the live page rather than relying on a copied appeal.
This is a targeted support description, not a guarantee that an individual donor can select a beneficiary or obtain a personal outcome report. Use Filastiniyat’s current official page, check the destination name and currency before payment, and retain the receipt for your own records.
How these programs differ from a newsroom
A newsroom contribution is generally described in terms of producing and publishing journalism, including the labor and infrastructure behind it. IMS and Filastiniyat describe support directed toward journalists’ circumstances and the continuity of independent Palestinian media. You may value both outcomes, but you should not describe one as a substitute for the other.

Conflict-related appeals can be copied, altered or circulated out of context. A short verification routine reduces the chance of sending money to an impersonator and helps you understand what your contribution can realistically do.
- Start from the organization’s own website. Navigate to the support or donation page from the organization’s main site instead of relying on a forwarded payment link, social-media post or search advertisement.
- Check the destination. Confirm the organization name, web address, payment recipient and currency on the final checkout screen. A familiar logo alone is not proof that the page is genuine.
- Read the stated use of funds. Look for the current explanation of whether money supports reporting, salaries, emergency assistance, operations or advocacy. Distinguish unrestricted gifts from a campaign limited to a particular program.
- Look for editorial safeguards. A newsroom may explain donor-influence rules, editorial independence or conflicts policies. Treat those as the organization’s disclosures; they help you assess the route but do not amount to external verification.
- Check timing and recurrence. Confirm whether the gift is one-time or monthly, whether the amount recurs automatically and how cancellation works.
- Check availability and eligibility. Program descriptions may include limits such as supplies being subject to availability. Make sure the current page still accepts donations and explains who the program serves.
- Save confirmation details. Keep the receipt, transaction date, amount and the page’s terms. Do not publish a journalist’s personal information to prove that you donated.
Payment availability, eligibility and allocation can change. If a page is unavailable or its current wording differs from an older appeal, follow the current page rather than an archived instruction.

Keep verification separate from endorsement
Finding an official page confirms where the organization directs donors; it does not independently verify every claim about impact. Likewise, reading an editorial policy can show how a newsroom says it protects independence, but it is not an external audit. Make your decision using the organization’s current disclosures, the purpose you want to support and the level of uncertainty you are willing to accept.
Give once or give monthly?
One-time contributions
A one-time gift is appropriate when you want a defined commitment or when your income is uncertain. It can also let you reassess the organization’s next public update before giving again. The amount does not establish a guaranteed result; the organization’s stated purpose and its current operating conditions determine how money is used.
Recommended Free Tools
Before submitting, check that the checkout page has not preselected a recurring option. Save the receipt and note the date, because a future appeal may use different payment instructions or describe a changed program.
Monthly contributions
Recurring support can help a newsroom plan around regular costs such as hosting, security and editorial tools, or help a support program maintain continuing assistance. It also creates an ongoing payment obligation. Confirm the renewal interval, cancellation route and whether the organization can change the amount or currency before authorizing it.
Choose an amount you can sustain. A smaller recurring contribution that you can maintain is different from a large first payment that creates financial strain. Do not infer that monthly giving guarantees a fixed number of stories, beneficiaries or supplies.
Split giving
Some readers may prefer to divide a budget between a reporting newsroom, a journalist-support program and advocacy. If you do, keep each recipient’s purpose distinct in your records. Do not describe a split gift as if every recipient provides the same service or level of reporting.
A simple record can list the recipient, date, amount, stated purpose and whether the payment recurs. This helps you avoid accidentally renewing a gift you no longer intend to make and keeps historical figures separate from current fundraising.
Support protection and independent access
What CPJ’s advocacy addresses
CPJ’s Israel-Gaza issue page calls for journalist protection and accountability and for independent international media access to Gaza. This is an advocacy route, not a newsroom subscription and not a product purchase. Its purpose is to press decision-makers and institutions on the conditions under which journalists can work and audiences can receive independently gathered information.
You can support this kind of work by sharing CPJ’s current calls through your own networks, contacting elected representatives where appropriate, and contributing through CPJ’s official channels if you want to fund press-freedom advocacy. Keep advocacy claims separate from claims about a specific newsroom’s output: they address different parts of the information system.

Why access is a reporting issue
On April 30, 2026, the Associated Press reported on a joint appeal by media organizations for Israel to allow foreign reporters independent access to Gaza. The collective statement quoted in that report said: “Being on the ground is essential. It allows journalists to question official accounts on all sides, to speak directly with civilians and report back what they witness firsthand.” AP attributed the wording to the collective statement from media leaders, not to one named individual.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The statement describes the value its signatories place on firsthand reporting: questioning official accounts, speaking directly with civilians and reporting what journalists witness. It does not establish that access has been granted or that every outlet can enter. Independent access does not replace local reporting, and advocacy for access does not guarantee that access will be granted. It is a separate action you can take alongside direct support for journalists and newsrooms.
Ways to participate without overstating impact
Share the current advocacy page, use the organization’s suggested language when contacting representatives, and identify the request as an access or protection issue rather than as a donation to a particular newsroom. Avoid editing a collective statement into a quote from one person. Keep the date and attribution attached whenever you repost the AP-reported wording.
Understand what historical funding figures do—and do not—show
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) said in 2024 that it dedicated more than 100,000 euros to support over 250 journalists in Gaza through its local partner, Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ). That figure is useful historical context about one program and one period. It is not a current fundraising total, a promise about today’s allocation, or evidence that a new donation will be divided in the same way.
The figure also should not be converted into an assumed per-journalist payment. The description says RSF dedicated the amount to support more than 250 journalists through ARIJ; it does not establish that every journalist received an equal sum or that the support consisted of one identical benefit.
When you see an older amount, check its date, partner, beneficiary count and program description. Avoid repeating it without those qualifications, especially in a fundraising post where readers could mistake a past intervention for a live appeal. A historical program can show that assistance occurred without telling you what any organization is raising or allocating now.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What not to buy or promise
Do not turn professional needs into consumer shopping lists
Books, reporting gear, safety equipment and other supplies may sound helpful, but a general product purchase is not established as an effective way to support the journalists described here. The available program descriptions do not identify a specific item, approved vendor or reliable delivery channel that readers should use.
Buying an unrequested item can create customs, transport, security, storage or duplication problems. It can also divert money from a newsroom’s most urgent need. Unless an organization publishes a current, specific request and a verified route, a direct contribution is the more clearly supported option.
Do not assume that a retailer, affiliate link or referral arrangement benefits Gazatte, IMS, Filastiniyat or CPJ. No affiliate or referral terms have been established for these routes. The evidenced commercial action is a direct donation through the organization’s own channel, not a purchase from an unrelated store.

Do not promise an outcome a page does not promise
- Do not claim that a contribution reaches a particular person unless the organization explicitly establishes that arrangement.
- Do not claim that a donation buys a specified number of articles, broadcasts or safety items unless the recipient gives that exact commitment.
- Do not call a contribution tax-deductible without a current authoritative statement for your country and the recipient’s legal entity.
- Do not present an organization’s own transparency statement as an independent audit.
- Do not repost payment details from an old campaign when a current official page is available.
- Do not publish a journalist’s name, location or personal circumstances as proof that your donation was effective.
A practical decision checklist
Use this checklist when you are ready to act:
- Define the goal: reporting, direct journalist assistance, newsroom continuity, protection or access advocacy.
- Select the recipient: Gazatte for the newsroom and contributors it describes; IMS for the mix of emergency and continuing support it lists; Filastiniyat for its stated financial assistance to journalists in Gaza; or CPJ for protection, accountability and access advocacy.
- Open the current official page: avoid forwarded links and confirm the payment destination.
- Read the current terms: purpose, recurrence, eligibility, availability and any donor-influence or editorial-independence disclosure.
- Check the transaction: verify the recipient name, currency, amount and whether the payment is recurring before confirming.
- Choose a sustainable amount: never authorize a recurring gift you cannot maintain.
- Keep the receipt private: record the transaction without exposing a journalist’s identity or location.
- Share accurately: preserve dates, attribution and the organization’s own wording when you tell others about a route.
- Recheck before giving again: programs, payment methods and priorities can change.
Supporting independent journalism is not limited to a single payment. A carefully verified donation, accurate sharing of an organization’s current appeal and informed support for journalist protection each address a different practical need. Treat the recipient’s published claims as information to evaluate, keep dates and program limits attached to any figure you repeat, and avoid promising more than the organization itself says it can deliver.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most direct way to support journalism covering Gaza?
Use the current official donation page of a newsroom or journalist-support organization, read its stated use of funds and verify the recipient and payment terms before giving. Gazatte describes support for reporting, contributors and newsroom operations; IMS and Filastiniyat describe assistance for journalists and independent Palestinian media.
Should I give to a newsroom or a journalist-support program?
Choose according to your goal. A newsroom route is aimed at reporting and publication costs, while IMS and Filastiniyat describe financial, workspace, freelance or continuing support for journalists and outlets. The routes are complementary rather than interchangeable, and there is no independent like-for-like impact ranking.
Can I make sure my donation reaches a specific journalist?
Do not assume so. Give to a named person only if the organization’s current official page explicitly establishes that arrangement. Otherwise, treat the contribution as support for the program or newsroom purpose described on the page.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Are monthly donations better than one-time gifts?
Neither is universally better. Monthly giving can provide predictable support for recurring costs, but it creates an ongoing payment obligation. A one-time gift may be more appropriate if your income is uncertain. Check renewal and cancellation terms before authorizing either option.
Is the RSF figure of more than 100,000 euros current?
No. RSF described that amount in 2024 for support to more than 250 journalists through ARIJ. It is historical context, not a current fundraising total, allocation or guarantee for a new donation.
Can I buy equipment or supplies instead of donating?
The documented routes do not identify a specific item, approved vendor or reliable delivery channel. Unrequested goods can create transport, customs, security, storage or duplication problems. Unless an organization publishes a current, verified request, a direct contribution is the clearer option.
What does CPJ support in relation to Gaza?
CPJ’s Israel-Gaza issue page calls for journalist protection, accountability and independent international media access to Gaza. That is press-freedom advocacy, not a newsroom subscription or a promise of a particular report.
Why does independent access matter?
In an April 30, 2026 Associated Press report, a collective statement from media organizations said that being on the ground lets journalists question official accounts, speak directly with civilians and report what they witness firsthand. The statement does not guarantee that access will be granted.
Are donations to these organizations tax-deductible?
Do not assume that they are. Tax treatment depends on your country and the recipient’s legal entity. Rely on a current authoritative statement from the organization or a qualified tax professional.
How can I avoid a fake donation page?
Start from the organization’s own website, inspect the web address and final payment recipient, confirm the currency and read the current purpose and recurrence terms. Do not rely solely on a forwarded link, social-media post, advertisement or familiar logo.
The Bottom Line
Choose the kind of help you want to provide, then use the recipient’s current official page. Gazatte describes funding for reporting, contributors and newsroom operations; IMS and Filastiniyat describe direct support for journalists and independent Palestinian media; CPJ focuses on protection, accountability and access advocacy. Verify the destination, purpose, recurrence and eligibility, keep historical figures dated, and do not substitute unrequested products or unsupported promises for a direct, informed contribution.
