Yes—you can watch Hotstar on a compatible Amazon Fire TV Stick, but the correct app and subscription depend on your country. In India, search for JioHotstar; in some other markets, the service is still branded Hotstar. The safest process is to subscribe through the official regional website, install the official Fire TV app, and sign in with the same account.
Check your country first
Hotstar is not one identical worldwide service. Content rights, app names, plans, prices, supported devices, and account rules vary by market.

Do not assume that an Indian, Canadian, or US subscription will work while you are in another country. The service’s geographic rights and your Amazon account marketplace can both affect access.
What you need
- An Amazon Fire TV Stick connected to your television.
- A reliable internet connection.
- An Amazon account configured for the relevant country.
- A Hotstar or JioHotstar account for your current location.
- A payment method accepted by that regional service.
- Up-to-date Fire TV software and enough available storage for the app.
Installing the app does not prove that you have an active subscription. The Fire TV Stick is only the playback device; the service account, billing country, and content rights determine what you can watch.

Subscribe through the official website
Subscribing in a browser is the best default because it makes plans, billing terms, and cancellation details easier to review. It also reduces the risk of creating a second account with a different email address or phone number.
- Open the official Hotstar or JioHotstar website for your country.
- Choose Sign up, Subscribe, or the equivalent current button.
- Create an account or sign in to an existing one.
- Select an available plan and review its supported devices, billing period, taxes, trial terms, and renewal conditions.
- Enter your payment details and confirm the purchase.
- Write down the email address or phone number used for the account.
Plan names, prices, currencies, promotional offers, trial eligibility, and payment methods change. Read the regional checkout page rather than relying on an old price guide.
For India, JioStar announced monthly Mobile, Super, and Premium plans effective January 28, 2026. The announcement lists the new-subscriber Mobile monthly tier from ₹79 per month; that is an India-specific Mobile price, not a universal Hotstar price or necessarily the plan intended for television viewing. If you subscribe inside the Fire TV app, use that option only when it is presented officially. Platform billing may offer different plans or require cancellation through Amazon. Record who charged you—Hotstar/JioStar, Amazon, or another provider—before completing payment.

- Turn on the Fire TV Stick and open the home screen.
- Select Find, Search, or the magnifying-glass icon. The label can differ by Fire OS version and device model.
- Search for the exact regional name: JioHotstar in India, or Hotstar where that is the official app name.
- Select the official listing published by the service provider—not an unofficial downloader or similarly named app.
- Choose Get, Download, or Install.
- When installation finishes, select Open. You can also find it later under Apps or in the app library.
Amazon explains that Fire TV search and app visibility depend on catalog availability and device compatibility in its Fire TV search documentation. A Fire TV app can therefore be absent even when the service exists in your country.
Sign in or activate the app
Sign in with account details
- Open the installed app.
- Select Log in or Sign in.
- Enter the email address, phone number, password, or other credentials used during signup.
- Choose a program and test playback.
Use a code or QR activation flow
Some TV apps show an activation code or QR code instead of asking you to type a password with the remote. If your Hotstar or JioHotstar app displays one:

- Scan the QR code or note the code on the screen.
- Open the activation address shown by the official app.
- Sign in to the same regional account used for the subscription.
- Enter the code if requested and wait for the Fire TV app to refresh.
Activation addresses and screen wording can change. Use only the URL displayed inside the official app; do not rely on an activation link copied from an unverified guide.
Confirm that the subscription works
After signing in, verify all of the following:
- The displayed email address or phone number is the account you paid for.
- The account’s membership or subscription page shows an active plan.
- Premium content opens without a subscription prompt.
- Playback starts successfully on the Fire TV Stick.
- The subscription belongs to the country where you are currently using the service.
If the app opens but repeatedly asks you to subscribe, you may be signed in to a different account. Check the account details on the website, sign out on Fire TV, and sign back in with the original credentials.
Troubleshooting
The app does not appear in search
- Check the spelling and search for the regional name—especially JioHotstar in India.
- Restart the Fire TV Stick.
- Confirm that your Amazon account marketplace matches your current country.
- Install pending Fire TV software updates.
- Search from the Fire TV home screen rather than inside another app.
- Check whether your Fire TV model is older or unsupported.
- Use the official service on another supported device if no Fire TV app is available.
- Contact regional Hotstar/JioHotstar support if the listing should be available but remains missing.
Amazon notes that apps may be unavailable for devices they do not support. Do not make sideloading an APK your first fix: unofficial packages may be outdated, unsafe, unsupported, or unable to overcome geographic restrictions.

The app installs but you cannot sign in
Confirm the account’s email address or phone number on the official website, reset the password if necessary, and check that you installed the app for the correct region. Disable any VPN or proxy before trying again. A service can reject connections that appear to come through an unblocker; the official US subscription page specifically warns about VPN and proxy connections.
The subscription is not recognized
Check the membership page in a browser and compare its account details with the account currently open on Fire TV. Also confirm that the payment succeeded and that the subscription was purchased for your current country. If you subscribed through Amazon or another platform, check that provider’s billing record rather than assuming the direct Hotstar account is responsible.
The activation code fails
- Enter the newest code shown on the television; codes can expire.
- Use the activation address displayed by the official app.
- Make sure the browser is signed in to the correct regional account.
- Restart the app and request a fresh code.
- Disable VPN or proxy connections.
Playback is blocked or content is missing
Possible causes include country restrictions, an inactive plan, an outdated app, unstable Wi-Fi, a temporary outage, or rights restrictions affecting a particular title. First test another program. Then check your membership online, force-close and reopen the app, sign out and back in, restart the Fire TV Stick and router, update the app and Fire OS, and reinstall if necessary. Clear the app cache if the problem continues; clear app data only if you are prepared to sign in again.

How to cancel
Cancel through the channel that billed you:
- Direct Hotstar/JioStar purchase: use the subscription or account area on the regional service website.
- Amazon billing: use your Amazon account’s subscription or app-billing settings.
- Another provider: use that provider’s subscription settings.
The exact menu names and cancellation rules vary by region and billing method. JioHotstar’s terms describe managing cancellation through the account area, while third-party billing can use a separate process. Cancel before the next renewal date and keep the confirmation.
Should you buy a newer Fire TV Stick?
There is no evidence here that a premium Fire TV model is required solely for Hotstar or JioHotstar. Upgrade only if your current device is slow, lacks current software support, has insufficient storage, or struggles with other streaming apps. If the official app runs normally, more expensive hardware is unlikely to solve a country, account, or subscription problem.
What to do if Fire TV is unsupported
Use the official service website or app on another supported device, such as a compatible smart TV or officially supported streaming platform. Do not use unofficial IPTV accounts, “lifetime” Hotstar accounts, VPN services marketed to bypass regional restrictions, or unknown APK sites as substitutes for an official subscription. They can create legal, security, billing, and reliability problems.
