1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—you can use an Ubuntu VPS to send a live video feed to YouTube, but the VPS must run an encoder or relay that supplies that feed. First decide whether the server will encode or resize video, which needs more predictable CPU capacity, or forward media already encoded elsewhere. Then choose a region and plan based on the actual network route and port capacity, configure YouTube’s RTMPS ingest details, and test the complete path before relying on it for a documentary premiere or other live event.
Choose what the VPS will do
A VPS is a server, not a streaming encoder by itself. You need software and a source video/audio feed. The resources required depend on the job:
- Encode or transcode on the VPS: The server converts or resizes the source into a stream YouTube can ingest. This is compute-intensive, and a plan listing a certain number of CPU cores does not by itself prove it can encode your resolution and frame rate smoothly.
- Relay already encoded media: An encoder elsewhere produces the stream and the VPS forwards it. This is a different workload from video encoding; do not assume it has the same CPU needs.
Contabo identifies video encoding and transcoding as Cloud VDS workloads and describes Cloud VDS as providing dedicated physical cores. That makes a VDS worth considering when server-side encoding needs more predictable compute, but it does not mean every stream requires one or certify a particular output. An Ubuntu image’s minimum operating-system requirements are not a sizing guide for encoding video.
Select an India-region server and verify the plan
Contabo lists Cloud VPS plans in India. Its Cloud VPS 6 listing, accessed in 2026, shows 6 vCPU cores, 12 GB RAM and 200 GB SSD. Treat those as listing specifications, not as proof of streaming performance; confirm availability, current price, port capacity and terms on Contabo’s page before ordering. Check Contabo’s India Cloud VPS listing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose Mumbai if it suits your source and expected network route, but an India location alone does not guarantee a low-latency or stable route to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. Consider where the video source is, where viewers are, and the real route to YouTube rather than choosing a region by geography alone.
Contabo says VPS, VDS and dedicated servers have no default bandwidth limit, subject to its fair-use policy, which permits intervention for exceptionally high or disruptive use. Port speeds depend on the product; Contabo lists values across server types from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Sustained stream bitrate and the selected plan’s actual port capacity are more useful checks than a headline traffic allowance. See Contabo’s traffic and bandwidth guidance for applicable policy details.

Set YouTube’s ingest details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Create a stream or select one you have already set up. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a live stream.
- Copy the RTMPS stream URL and stream key. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Use the exact values shown for your stream; do not substitute a guessed URL. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
- Enter both values in your encoder or relay. The URL tells the software where to send the feed; the key associates it with your YouTube stream. Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, replace or rotate it in YouTube and update the encoder configuration. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
Match encoding settings to the feed and connection
Choose output settings that match your source and the sustained upload capacity available on the server’s route. For H.264, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 frames per second and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second. It recommends constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular VPS can encode or transmit those settings successfully. Consult YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.
- Use a resolution and frame rate appropriate to the source; increasing output settings cannot restore detail that is absent from the source.
- Set a constant bitrate and two-second keyframes, staying within YouTube’s four-second maximum.
- Check that the selected plan’s port and measured upload path can sustain the stream bitrate. Leave capacity for audio and normal variation instead of treating a port’s headline rate as guaranteed throughput.
- Use representative motion and audio in tests. A quiet static image is not a meaningful test for a documentary with movement, cuts or music.
Contabo’s public listing and policy information do not establish a plan-specific sustained upload benchmark to YouTube, nor do they establish that a particular Ubuntu command or encoder configuration will work for every source. Measure and verify your own complete path.

Test before the event and monitor stream health
- Start a private or otherwise appropriate test stream from the intended source using the intended encoder, settings and server region.
- Include representative movement and audio, and let the test run long enough to expose interruptions or resource pressure.
- Check encoder output and YouTube’s stream-health indicators. YouTube explicitly advises testing and monitoring; a successful connection at startup alone does not establish a stable event.
- If the stream is unstable, distinguish encoding overload from network or ingest issues. Check server CPU and encoder warnings, confirm URL and key, and compare actual upload capacity with the configured bitrate. Change one factor at a time and test again.
Common problems and what to check
- YouTube never receives video: Confirm the RTMPS URL and stream key were copied from the selected stream and entered in the correct encoder fields. If the key was exposed, rotate it and update the encoder.
- Video stutters or drops frames during server-side encoding: The chosen workload may exceed available compute, or settings may not match the source. Check encoder warnings and CPU use; reduce output resolution or frame rate, or consider compute with dedicated cores. Do not infer encoding capacity from RAM or a core count alone.
- Connection starts but stream health is poor: Test the route and sustained upload capacity to YouTube, and confirm the actual plan port. An India-region server does not guarantee a good route to ingest.
- Stream fails under high or disruptive traffic use: Review the provider’s fair-use policy and contact Contabo if the usage pattern or applicable limits are unclear. “No default bandwidth limit” is not a promise of unlimited, unrestricted use.
- Local test succeeds but a scheduled event does not: Recheck that the same source, encoder settings, server, URL and stream key are being used, and monitor YouTube’s stream health during the event.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube channel that loops uploaded documentary videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to operating an encoder on a VPS: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos and YouTube streaming, not a camera-based live feed. See StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
