You can stream a prepared playlist of Malayalam songs on YouTube Live with an encoder, but clear the rights to every recording and composition first. Owning the files or having YouTube Premium does not give you broadcast rights. You need permission for the livestream and any saved replay; even licensed music can be interrupted by Content ID unless the rights owner allowlists your channel.
Before you set up the stream, clear the music rights
YouTube’s livestream terms make the person providing the live content responsible for having the necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. That applies to the live broadcast and to an archived copy. A personal-listening subscription, a purchased download or permission for a different platform is not proof that you can broadcast the songs on YouTube.
Confirm the scope for every track
- Ask the relevant rights holders whether your permission covers the actual sound recording and the underlying composition.
- Confirm that the permission covers YouTube livestream transmission in the territories where viewers may watch, and a saved replay if you intend to keep one.
- Keep written records of the permission and any limits, such as territory, duration or required credit.
- Use a visual feed you are also entitled to use: for example, a licensed still image or a visualizer you created from assets you control.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A rights holder’s license alone may not prevent an automated warning or interruption. If you have permission, ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for the authorized use. Provide the channel identifier and confirm the allowlisting covers the particular music and stream. YouTube explains this process in its live-stream copyright guidance.
Enable YouTube Live and choose a playback method
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and enable the feature in YouTube Studio before your planned broadcast; see YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.

For a prepared audio-and-visual program, send the feed through an encoder. Software encoding is a practical choice if you can leave a computer running and monitor it. Dedicated hardware may reduce reliance on a general-purpose computer, but neither approach grants music rights or prevents Content ID claims. YouTube’s verified-encoder list includes software and hardware options; it also lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with PlayToStream functionality for scheduled prerecorded media. Treat that as an optional specialist device, not a requirement, and check current capabilities and availability before buying.
Set up a prerecorded Malayalam music livestream
- Prepare a cleared program. Arrange the songs in the order you want them played and pair them with a visual you have rights to use. Check that the audio files play correctly and that no track exceeds the rights you obtained.
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set the title, audience and other stream details. Keep the stream key private: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Copy the connection details. In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS destination settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure form of RTMP. Its encoder setup instructions explain the connection workflow.
- Choose compatible encoding settings. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Set the resolution and bitrate according to YouTube’s current recommended live encoder settings and the upload speed you have measured. A higher setting is not useful if the connection cannot sustain it reliably.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Send the feed before going live if your workflow offers a preview. Confirm that the picture is visible, Malayalam audio is present and clean, and the stream health indicators do not show connection problems. Adjust levels if the sound clips or is too quiet.
- Go live and monitor the broadcast. Start the stream from the Live Control Room when the preview is ready. Watch stream health and the actual program, not only the encoder’s status. If a claim or interruption appears, follow YouTube’s notice and contact the rights holder; do not assume that changing the encoder resolves a music-rights issue.
Plan for bandwidth, monitoring and replays
Leave upload headroom
YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload bandwidth in reserve beyond the stream’s bitrate. Measure the upload connection where the encoder will run, and avoid treating a best-case speed test as a guarantee of sustained capacity. Other people or devices using the same connection can reduce available bandwidth. YouTube’s live encoding recommendations provide the current settings by quality.

Do not treat a 24/7 broadcast as a dependable archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If viewers need a replay, retain a local recording and end and restart the live session before it reaches 12 hours. The limit and archive behavior are described in YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance; check the current page before relying on it.
Test the real operating conditions
- Run a representative test with the same kind of audio, visual and encoder settings planned for the live program.
- Check that the audio remains in sync and that the video feed does not freeze during a longer run.
- Monitor local recording storage, particularly if you are keeping a high-quality archive.
- If you use a backup encoder or connection, test the changeover before depending on it.
- Keep someone available to respond to stream-health warnings, rights notices or a failed playback queue; unattended playback is not the same as unattended problem resolution.
Know the difference between permission and monetization
Permission to broadcast a song and eligibility to earn money from a livestream are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization policy, updated July 15, 2025, gives collections of songs from different artists as an example of content that cannot be monetized even when the creator has permission. It also identifies repetitive or mass-produced content as potentially ineligible. Read the current YouTube channel monetization policies and do not assume a licensed playlist will earn ad revenue.

For eligible monetized live streams, ads may be enabled, but an individual ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. YouTube describes this in its live-stream ad guidance. Monetization eligibility does not replace the need to secure music rights or Content ID allowlisting.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | Live streaming is not enabled, the channel is not verified, or a recent restriction applies. | Check YouTube Studio’s live-stream eligibility. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; the channel must have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. |
| The Live Control Room does not receive the encoder feed | The stream URL or key is wrong, the encoder is not sending, or the selected destination is misconfigured. | Copy the current URL and key from the intended stream in YouTube Studio, re-enter them carefully and confirm the encoder is using RTMPS or the correct RTMP destination. |
| Video stutters, drops frames or loses connection | The connection may not sustain the chosen bitrate, or other network use may be consuming bandwidth. | Check measured upload speed and stream health, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% bandwidth headroom, and lower the bitrate or resolution if needed. |
| The audio is missing, too quiet or distorted | The encoder may be using the wrong audio input or codec, or the source level may be clipping. | Confirm an AAC or MP3 audio stream is configured, monitor the preview, and adjust the source level so peaks do not distort. |
| YouTube warns, interrupts or terminates the stream | A live Content ID match may have been detected, including where the operator has a license but the channel is not allowlisted. | Review the YouTube notice, verify the permission covers the use, and ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel. Do not restart with the same material until the rights issue is understood. |
| The livestream is missing from archives | The session may have exceeded 12 hours; streams longer than that may not be captured. | Keep a local recording and split a long broadcast into sessions that end before 12 hours if the YouTube replay matters. |
