To keep Punjabi shabad kirtan live on YouTube around the clock, use a verified, eligible channel; secure the rights to the actual recordings and visuals; send the program through an encoder; and plan for interruptions. A practical DIY starting point is OBS Studio on a computer that stays powered on and connected. For cloud playback without a home computer running, StreamNeo is another option. Choose how the stream will run
The right setup depends on whether you are broadcasting a live performance or playing prerecorded kirtan, and how much local equipment and attention you can provide. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, and its encoder list also includes cloud services for prerecorded streams.

These routes differ in local equipment and operation; no route eliminates the need to clear content rights or prepare for interruptions. For live singing captured as it happens, use a production setup that can send the live audio and video. The prerecorded-video options here do not turn a camera feed into an unattended playlist.
Check YouTube channel eligibility first
- The channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- The person livestreaming must be at least 16 years old.
- First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable access well ahead of the planned launch.
In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming and check the channel’s current eligibility before preparing the broadcast. When ready, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream; YouTube provides the stream details the encoder needs. Clear rights for the recordings and visuals
A devotional subject, public availability, or permission to listen does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a particular recording. Check the rights for the specific composition, performance, recording, and visuals, and confirm that permission covers the live transmission and any archived replay you intend to keep. The applicable rights depend on the material and permissions; YouTube’s platform guidance does not settle the legal status of a particular Indian recording.
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If a rights holder has licensed third-party material for your channel, ask them to add your channel to the Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that an unallowlisted stream may still be interrupted even when the material is licensed. Unresolved matches can interrupt or terminate a stream. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before going live.

Set up a prerecorded stream with OBS Studio
- Prepare your authorized media. Keep the audio recording and any permitted still image, lyrics, schedule, or branding ready. Do not add visuals or music unless you have permission for the intended broadcast.
- Install OBS Studio. Download it from the OBS Project. OBS is free, open-source software for live streaming and recording. Its software does not provide content rights or guarantee unattended playback.
- Create a scene and add the program. In OBS, create a scene and add the authorized audio and visual sources. Check that the image is legible and that the audio is audible without clipping. If you are capturing a live singer or commentary rather than playing a recording, configure the appropriate live audio and video inputs as part of that separate production setup.
- Create the encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream, and choose the encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key YouTube provides into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. YouTube supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS.
- Match OBS settings to YouTube’s guidance. Choose a resolution and frame rate your connection can sustain. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds, and constant-bitrate encoding. Its settings page supports H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and frame rates up to 60 fps. Use the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table for the specific codec, resolution, and frame rate you select.
- Test before the public launch. Start with a private or unlisted stream and use the actual audio, visual, and intended settings. Check sound level, image legibility, upload stability, and YouTube’s stream-health notices. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test before going live; its music-channel guidance also covers live preparation.
- Start the public stream and monitor it. When the test is satisfactory, use the Live Control Room to go live. Keep the computer, power, internet connection, OBS, and source media available, and monitor the live dashboard for encoder, connection, or content-match warnings.
Choose sustainable resolution and bitrate
Do not choose a high bitrate simply because the connection reports a high speed at one moment. Test upload speed and leave headroom for fluctuations; YouTube advises matching stream quality to a reliable connection and monitoring stream health. For example, YouTube’s published table lists H.264 1080p30 at a 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended. Those are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Indian connection can sustain the stream. The table’s figures vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult it for your chosen combination rather than treating one setting as universal.
A kirtan stream with a still visual may not benefit from a resolution or frame rate your connection cannot reliably deliver. Prioritize continuous, intelligible audio and a stable upload over a nominally higher picture setting. Test the actual program and adjust based on YouTube’s stream-health feedback.

Plan for continuity and interruptions
A 24/7 stream is an operating goal, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service. With OBS, the local computer, power, internet connection, encoder, and source media all have to keep working. YouTube’s encoder and stream-health guidance makes those dependencies visible, but does not promise continuous service.
- Have a person or documented response procedure for encoder failures, network or power loss, YouTube health warnings, and content-match interruptions.
- Know how the operator will restart the encoder and confirm that the Live Control Room is receiving the stream.
- Keep a way to check the channel’s live status and respond to a takedown or claim rather than assuming a stream will restart by itself.
- For a local setup, consider what happens if the computer or home connection is unavailable. A cloud service removes the need to keep that local computer online, but does not establish a guarantee against every interruption.
