Yes. You can present a finished recording as a live event on more than one platform at once—often called multistreaming or simulcasting—by uploading the video to a prerecorded-stream service, sending one encoder feed through a cloud relay, or creating separate outputs from your computer. Choose based on whether you need scheduled file playback or a live encoder workflow, which destinations you want, and how much upload bandwidth and equipment you can dedicate.
Choose how the video will reach each platform
The key difference is who handles the distribution. A prerecorded cloud service plays an uploaded file; a relay fans out one live encoder feed; direct outputs send separate streams from your location.
| Route | How it works | Best fit | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded cloud service | Upload the finished file, choose destinations and a start time, and the service plays it as a live broadcast. | Recorded documentaries, webinars, classes, launches, or other scheduled programming. | Destination, scheduling, file, duration, and quality limits vary by service. The reviewed service guide says its cloud playback does not require a local computer to run during the event; that is not a universal guarantee for every provider. |
| Cloud relay plus encoder | Send one live output from OBS or another encoder to a relay, which distributes it to connected platforms. | You want to operate an encoder and send only one upload from your location. | Your encoder, source, and internet connection must remain active during the event. Verify destination and plan limits. |
| Direct local multi-output | Configure an encoder or plugin to send a distinct output to each platform. | You need direct control over each destination and have enough computer capacity and upload bandwidth. | Upload demand generally rises with each separate output; encoding multiple outputs can also increase device load. |
Before choosing, compare the destinations supported, account eligibility, whether file upload and scheduling are available, number of channels, output quality and duration limits, local upload requirements, setup complexity, chat handling, and current cost. Do not assume a service’s limits apply to another service.
Check accounts and platform rules first
Confirm live access
Make sure every destination account is eligible to stream live and is in good standing. For YouTube, the official cross-platform guidance referenced by the reviewed guide says channel verification and enabled live streaming are required. Check the current rules for each destination before scheduling, because eligibility and technical limits can change.

Decide how to handle prerecorded disclosure
Review the destination’s current policy on prerecorded material and label the event where required. A multistreaming guide updated September 25, 2026 reports that Facebook requires prerecorded content in a live broadcast to be identified in the title or description, and reports an eight-hour maximum. Those details are guide-reported and should be checked against Facebook’s current official help before relying on them. Clear wording such as “premiere” or “pre-recorded program” can also help viewers understand what they are watching.
Protect stream keys and connected accounts
If a destination requires an RTMP server URL and stream key, treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to the channel. Use the account-connection flow offered by a service where appropriate, restrict access to the key, and regenerate it through the platform if it is exposed.

Set up and test the multistream
- Choose the destinations. Prioritize platforms where your intended audience already watches. Confirm each account can go live and check destination-specific terms, resolution, duration, scheduling, and content rules.
- Select the delivery route. For file-based scheduling, choose a prerecorded cloud service. For an encoder-based event with one creator-side upload, use a cloud relay. For separate destination control, configure local outputs and confirm your computer and connection can sustain them.
- Create the event on each destination. Schedule or create the live event in the platform’s current interface. Connect the account or enter its RTMP server URL and stream key if required. Keep destination details separate and avoid reusing a key beyond its intended platform.
- Match the output to the strictest destination. Use settings supported by every platform in the same shared output. For separate outputs, set each destination independently. Do not rely on a generic resolution or bitrate table: consult current official technical guidance for the exact destinations and workflow.
- Calculate upload capacity for direct outputs. YouTube recommends adding the target bitrates of separate streams and aiming for 1.5 to 2 times that combined rate for stability. For example, its guidance gives 15–20 Mbps upload as the target when one stream is set to 6 Mbps and another to 4 Mbps. This is a planning recommendation, not a performance guarantee. A cloud relay can receive one creator-side stream and distribute it downstream, so the creator-side upload is not the sum of all platform outputs.
- Run a realistic test. Use a private or test event where possible. YouTube recommends testing at realistic settings with typical audio and video movement, then monitoring stream health. Check the picture, sound, sync, event visibility, and playback separately on every destination; a successful encoder connection does not prove each platform is receiving correctly.
- Plan comment handling. Decide who will monitor comments and how viewers on each platform will be acknowledged. A chat aggregator may be convenient, but Twitch’s current simulcasting terms restrict combining other platform activity in the Twitch stream. Check Twitch’s current terms and configure on-screen chat accordingly.
- Publish transparently. Use an accurate title and description, identify prerecorded content where required, and be clear about whether comments are being monitored live.
What service limits and prices can—and cannot—tell you
Limits belong to the specific provider and plan, not to multistreaming as a whole. A guide updated September 25, 2026 describes its own prerecorded-stream service as supporting up to six destinations plus custom RTMP, up to 1080p, and up to three hours per stream. Treat those as that service’s reported limits, not general standards. Restream’s pricing FAQ says its free tier permits choosing two supported channels and that prerecorded live content is available through Upload & Stream; check its current plan terms before relying on that allowance. Restream’s OBS setup article describes connecting OBS to Restream and selecting destinations through the Restream account.
Before paying, verify destination count, file size and format, maximum duration, output quality, scheduling, account connection, and whether prerecorded playback is included in the plan. Pricing and feature limits can change.

Keep a YouTube channel live from prerecorded videos
If your goal is not a one-time event but a YouTube channel that stays live around the clock from uploaded recordings, that is a different workflow from simulcasting one scheduled program. StreamNeo is a cloud service for playing uploaded videos as a continuous YouTube live stream: upload a recording or create a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded video, not a camera feed, and does not stream to other platforms.
Or let it run in the cloud
Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo does not re-encode or use quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.

- One destination is offline while the others work: Check that destination’s event status, account eligibility, connected account or RTMP URL, and stream key. Confirm the selected output meets that platform’s current limits.
- All direct outputs buffer or drop: Compare the combined target bitrate with available upload capacity. YouTube’s 1.5–2× recommendation is a planning margin, not a guarantee; repeat a realistic test and lower output demands if needed.
- The event connects but playback is wrong: Check the event privacy and start time, then inspect audio, motion, and sync on each destination rather than relying only on encoder status.
- A key may have been exposed: Regenerate it in the destination account and update the authorized encoder or relay. Do not post keys in public instructions or chat.
- Prerecorded content is rejected or flagged: Review the destination’s current rules, labeling requirements, and rights for the video and audio. Adjust the title or description where required and resolve any account or content restriction before retrying.
- Chat creates a policy issue: Disable combined on-screen chat or other cross-platform activity for a destination whose terms restrict it, including Twitch simulcasts; check current terms for the latest wording.
Copyright and channel standing still matter
Broadcasting a recording as live does not change who owns its images, music, footage, or narration, or whether you have permission to use them. Check rights for every component and destination, and review platform rules on reused content and live access before scheduling. Keep evidence of licenses or permissions where applicable. A prerecorded format is not a workaround for copyright enforcement or channel restrictions.
