To sell on YouTube Live, either connect an eligible store to tag your own products, or qualify for YouTube Shopping’s affiliate program to tag participating retailers’ products. In either case, access and product visibility depend on your channel, location, the item, and the viewer’s region. Start by checking the Shopping controls in YouTube Studio; a product tag is not a guarantee that every viewer will see or be able to buy the item.
Choose how you’ll sell
YouTube Live Shopping has two distinct routes. Choose based on whose products you are promoting and how you expect to earn.
| Decision | Own-store product tagging | Other-brand affiliate tagging |
|---|---|---|
| What you promote | Products in your own catalog | Products listed by participating retailers or brands |
| Setup | Connect a store or retailer that YouTube currently supports | Meet YouTube Shopping affiliate eligibility and enroll through Studio |
| How revenue works | Purchases go through the connected store’s available YouTube shopping flow | You may earn a commission on qualifying purchases; rates vary by product and merchant and can change |
| Key checks | Supported store connection, channel eligibility, product availability and shipping | Country, YouTube Partner Program and subscriber criteria, channel restrictions, and eligible retailer listings |
If you sell your own inventory, check YouTube’s current supported-store options before building your product plan around a specific platform. If you promote another brand’s inventory, look for the affiliate program in Studio and verify the current eligibility details for your account.
Check whether your channel can use Shopping
For affiliate products
YouTube’s affiliate program overview says creators must be in the YouTube Partner Program and meet its subscriber threshold. It lists Argentina, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam as locations for eligible creators. YouTube also excludes music channels, Official Artist Channels, channels associated with music partners, and channels whose audience is set as Made for Kids or that have a significant number of videos set as made for kids. Pilot criteria can differ, so the feature and criteria shown in your own Studio account are the practical check.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For your own store
Store connection and product tagging are also subject to YouTube’s channel and feature eligibility. Open YouTube Studio and check whether Shopping controls are available for your channel and stream. Do not assume that having a connected store alone makes every product tag eligible or visible.
Amazon is a separate, narrower route
YouTube describes Amazon product tagging for creators in the YouTube Partner Program and YouTube Shopping affiliate program in the United States, Brazil, or India. U.S. creators also need an active Amazon Influencer Program or Amazon Associates account linked to their YouTube channel. Confirm the current requirements and account status in Studio; do not treat Amazon tagging as universal access.

Set up products for a live stream
- Choose products that belong in the show. For affiliate products, select items offered by a participating retailer and make sure the item is meaningfully related to the stream. YouTube’s guidance says tagged items should be featured prominently, used safely, and accurately match what viewers see. Follow paid-placement contracts and applicable disclosure requirements.
- Connect your store or enroll in affiliate Shopping. For your own products, use a supported store connection. For other brands’ products, complete the applicable affiliate eligibility and enrollment steps in YouTube Studio.
- Open the stream’s Shopping controls. In YouTube Studio, open the live stream and select its Shopping tab. Search for the product, add the appropriate listing as a tag, and save.
- Order and feature the products. Put the most relevant items where viewers can find them. You can pin featured products during the live stream. YouTube says creators can tag multiple featured products.
- Finish tagging before you go live. YouTube’s mobile guidance warns that changes made during a live may not appear to some viewers. Add or update tags ahead of time when possible. If you add tags after the broadcast, they can appear with the replay.
Prepare and present the live
Plan the sequence of the stream so that each tagged product is actually shown and explained: what it is, how it relates to the topic, how it is used, and what a viewer should check before buying. Avoid presenting a tag as an endorsement of details you have not verified; retailers control product details, price, availability, warnings, and purchase terms.
- Test audio, video, lighting, and your internet connection with an unlisted stream before the public broadcast.
- Use a stable camera position. A tripod, selfie stick, or similar accessory can reduce camera shake, but it is optional; YouTube says expensive equipment is not needed to start.
- Clear rights for everything in the broadcast, including music. Claimed content or music-partner associations can affect whether tags display.
- Make any paid-placement disclosures required for your situation, and follow YouTube’s applicable disclosure controls and policies.
YouTube reported that watch time for videos that help people shop on the platform increased by more than 25% in 2023, across video-on-demand, Shorts, and live content. That is not a livestream-only growth figure, nor a promise of sales. YouTube also reported 30 billion watch hours of shopping-related videos in 2023; watch time is not a conversion or earnings measure.

What viewers see and where they buy
Viewers can open the Shopping product list and continue to the retailer’s site. For a connected own-store catalog, the available purchase flow depends on that store connection. Product tags appear only in supported regions, and a viewer may not be able to buy an item if it cannot ship to their location. Retailers, rather than the stream creator, determine purchase terms and can change product details, prices, or availability.
Before the broadcast, check that each listing is still available and that its title, image, and product details match what you will show. If a listing changes or disappears, remove or replace the tag rather than leaving viewers with a misleading match.

Understand commissions and sales expectations
Affiliate commission rates vary by product and merchant and may change. YouTube says the payout rate that applies is the rate on the purchase date, so check current offers and rates in YouTube Studio instead of quoting a fixed percentage or promising a particular return. For an own-store sale, the connected store’s terms govern the transaction.
Neither platform watch-time totals nor the presence of product tags establishes how many viewers will purchase. Treat a live as product discovery and presentation; evaluate actual orders and applicable commission reporting in the relevant store or Studio tools.

Why a tag may not appear
- Channel or program eligibility: Check Shopping availability in Studio, affiliate program criteria, location requirements, and channel restrictions.
- Claimed content, music associations, or rights issues: Clear music and other rights before the stream. Tags may not show for streams with claimed content or music-partner associations.
- Made for Kids or monetization status: A Made for Kids designation, limited or ineligible monetization, or other account status can prevent tags from appearing.
- Paid content or an ad block: These can affect tag visibility. Review the stream’s setup and applicable YouTube disclosure requirements.
- Product mismatch or unsafe presentation: Tag only the item shown, feature it meaningfully, and demonstrate intended safe use.
- Viewer region or shipping: Product tags may be limited to supported regions, and items must be available for delivery to the viewer.
- Late edits: Tag changes made during a live may not reach some viewers. Add products before going live; add missing tags afterward for the replay when appropriate.
- Retailer listing or stock change: Check the listing and availability again; product information and purchase conditions can change under the retailer’s control.

StreamNeo is a separate tool for keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running; it does not add Shopping tags, process product sales, or stream from a camera. If your live-shopping format uses a prerecorded video, its three steps are upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo, or start the free day.
