Fortnite replays are not finished video files: Epic says the Replay feature does not make videos, so you must capture the playback externally. For a continuous schedule, end each YouTube stream before it reaches 12 hours, start another stream, and keep a local recording as a backup. YouTube warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What “continuous” means for a Fortnite replay channel
A saved Fortnite replay is gameplay data that Fortnite can play back with adjustable views and camera controls. It is not a video you can export directly to YouTube. The practical workflow is to play the replay, capture what appears on screen, and stream that captured output.
Plan for a sequence of separate live events rather than one indefinite event. YouTube Help says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local archive too. For an ongoing channel schedule, stop and restart before the 12-hour mark, save each segment locally, and check that the completed event appears in YouTube Studio.
Prepare Fortnite replays before capturing them
- Enable replay recording before the session. In Fortnite’s game settings, look for the replay options for standard matches and Creative sessions, including “Record Replays” and “Record Creative Mode Replays.” Menu locations and labels can change between game updates, so confirm the current settings in-game.
- Open a saved replay from the lobby. Choose the match or Creative session you want to capture and start playback.
- Set the footage before recording. Choose the player or team viewpoint, camera angle, zoom, and playback speed. Review the section you plan to capture and hide replay controls or other overlays before starting a clean recording.
- Capture while the replay still works. Epic warns that saved replays can become unusable when game updates change the context or data layout. Capture footage you want to preserve before a major update, chapter, or season change rather than relying on the replay file as a permanent archive.
Capture and stream the replay with OBS
Configure the capture
- Open OBS and run Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard. OBS says the wizard can establish most basic settings. It does not provide a Fortnite-specific preset, so use its result as a starting point rather than assuming a particular resolution, bitrate, or encoder is right for every PC and connection.
- Add a screen capture source. Capture the display or game window where Fortnite replay playback is visible. Check the preview for the intended game image, camera view, and overlays before going live. Epic specifically directs creators to screen-recording software because Replays do not make videos.
- Set stream output based on your equipment and connection. There is no single bitrate, resolution, or encoder setting established for every setup here. Follow OBS’s encoder guidance for tuning, use settings your computer and upload connection can sustain, and test a private or unlisted event before scheduling a long session.
- Decide whether to record locally at the same time. Keep a separate local recording of the capture as a recovery copy. Confirm that the recording is being written to a drive with enough available space for your intended session; the official guidance does not specify a particular drive, capacity, or recording-size estimate.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create a YouTube live event using YouTube’s current live setup flow. Choose a title and visibility appropriate to the channel and audience.
- Copy the stream key from YouTube’s live setup and enter it in OBS. Treat the key as a password: do not show it in the captured screen, share it publicly, or leave it visible in a recording.
- Start the OBS stream and inspect YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check the encoder preview and confirm the picture and sound are right before leaving the setup unattended. Do a short test first so you can catch capture, audio, or connection problems without losing a long segment.
- Monitor the stream while it runs. OBS’s dropped-frames counter is a useful warning: an increasing count with a yellow or red connection indicator can mean the connection is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce output demands or address the connection problem, then verify the preview recovers.
The sources establish capture of replay playback, but not a current Fortnite replay playlist or automatic replay-file loop in OBS or YouTube. Treat recurring playback as an operator-managed process: prepare and start the next replay or recording yourself, and do not assume a live event will cycle through replay files automatically.

Segment the broadcast and verify each archive
- Set a schedule that leaves time to stop each event before it reaches 12 hours.
- End the current YouTube live event and start a new event for the next segment. This requires someone or a planned operating process to manage the restart; it is not a guarantee of seamless playback between events.
- Keep the local recording for each segment, then confirm the event archive appears in YouTube Studio after the stream ends.
- If the event is missing or incomplete, preserve the local file and check the event status in Studio. Do not rely on a stream longer than 12 hours as your only copy.
Copyright and Fortnite content rights
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material present in another live broadcast. If it detects such material, YouTube may show a placeholder, warn the creator, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the material remains. A Content ID claim on an archived live stream may be made after the stream ends.
Epic’s Fortnite Developer Rules say creators must own or obtain the necessary rights to content they use, and that Epic owns intellectual property in its original creations. Do not assume that gameplay, licensed music, emotes, or other third-party elements are cleared for every platform or for commercial use. Review current game and platform terms, and avoid adding music or other material unless you have an appropriate rights basis. Epic identifies Support-A-Creator as a program that media creators promoting Fortnite content may apply to; eligibility and terms are not guaranteed.

Troubleshooting common problems
- The replay is missing or will not play: Check that replay recording was enabled for the relevant mode. An update may have made an older replay unusable; if it still opens, capture the wanted footage before another update.
- Fortnite appears, but the camera or overlays are wrong: Reopen the replay and adjust viewpoint, camera, zoom, or playback speed before recording. Hide replay controls and verify the OBS preview before starting the stream.
- YouTube’s preview is blank or shows the wrong window: Check that OBS is capturing the display or game window containing Fortnite playback, then inspect the preview again before going live.
- Dropped frames increase: OBS identifies this as a sign that the connection may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. Check the connection and lower the output demands to a sustainable level; no universal Fortnite bitrate is established for every setup.
- The stream stops or the archive is incomplete: Check the event in YouTube Live Control Room or Studio and retain the local recording. Keep future segments under 12 hours because YouTube says longer streams may not be captured at all.
- The live event is interrupted after a rights warning: Check the stream for third-party material and remove content for which you do not have the required rights. Review the archived event for a post-stream Content ID claim.
