You can loop a prerecorded video to YouTube Live from an Indian cloud server by creating a YouTube live event, preparing a VM and FFmpeg build, then publishing the file to the event’s RTMPS ingest address. The basic loop command is short; the harder parts are choosing an output profile your server can sustain, budgeting for continuous outbound data, protecting the stream key, and confirming that YouTube receives a healthy stream. The command below is a template, not a tested deployment.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel and a live event in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the event UI for any account or channel prerequisites; eligibility varies and is not established here for your account.
- A prerecorded video file available on the VM, or a secure way to transfer it there.
- A Linux cloud VM with enough CPU to process the chosen source and output profile, and enough outbound transfer allowance for continuous streaming.
- An FFmpeg build that includes the encoder you choose—commonly
libx264for H.264—and supports the RTMPS/FLV output path.
This workflow sends an existing file; it does not require a camera or capture card. A cloud location in India does not by itself guarantee a cheaper bill or a more stable route to YouTube ingest.
1. Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the live event.
- Copy the event’s ingest server URL and its stream key from the event settings. Use the values belonging to this event, not credentials from a tutorial or another event.
- Prefer YouTube’s RTMPS endpoint, the encrypted form of RTMP, as recommended in its RTMPS ingestion documentation.
- Store the endpoint and key in a private server-side configuration with restricted permissions. Do not put the key in a public repository, screenshot, shared shell history or publicly accessible logs. Rotate it if exposed.
For RTMPS failures, verify the exact server name and port shown for the event, and confirm that the URL and FFmpeg output are using RTMPS with the required SSL support. YouTube identifies an incorrect server name, port or SSL setup as possible causes of SSL errors or timeouts.
2. Choose a VM by total cost and workload
A documented AWS Lightsail price example
AWS’s pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists a Linux/Unix Lightsail bundle at $5 USD per month with 0.5 GB memory, two vCPUs and 20 GB SSD. The page lists 1 TB of transfer for that bundle, but AWS says Mumbai plans include half the listed allowance; for this example, plan on about 0.5 TB in Mumbai, subject to the current console and plan terms. AWS’s transfer documentation lists $0.13 USD/GB for qualifying excess outbound transfer in Mumbai. Check current Lightsail pricing and transfer rules and overage for your region before launching; prices and allowances can change.

Estimate continuous egress before selecting a plan
At a constant 4 Mbps, video payload alone is about 1.8 decimal GB per hour: 4 megabits per second ÷ 8 × 3,600 seconds. That is about 43.2 decimal GB for 24 uninterrupted hours, or about 1,296 decimal GB over 30 days. These are arithmetic planning estimates, not provider quotes or measured traffic. Audio, protocol overhead, retransmissions, uptime, provider metering and billing units affect actual use. The 4 Mbps figure is YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 240p–720p and 30 fps, not a universal quality target.
Because the Mumbai Lightsail example includes about 0.5 TB, a 30-day 4 Mbps stream would exceed that allowance before overhead. Compare the plan’s full monthly cost, including applicable outbound overage, rather than choosing by headline VM price. A lower compatible bitrate may reduce sender egress, but can reduce image quality.

Check compute against the source video
The listed two vCPUs do not prove that a VM can encode every file in real time. Source codec, resolution and frame rate, scaling filters, FFmpeg build and CPU performance all matter. AWS identifies compute-optimized plans as suitable for compute-intensive work such as video encoding, but that does not establish a minimum plan for this specific loop. Test the intended file and output profile on the actual instance, and monitor CPU use and YouTube stream health.

3. Install FFmpeg and inspect the media
- Install FFmpeg through the package channel or trusted distribution route for your chosen operating system and version. Installation commands and codec availability differ by distribution, so verify them against the exact OS image you selected.
- Confirm that the installed binary includes your intended video encoder, such as
libx264, and supports RTMPS output through FLV. - Transfer the video to the server, then inspect its duration, video and audio streams, resolution, frame rate and codecs before choosing stream copy or re-encoding.
- Choose stream copy only if the source’s codecs, container and timing are compatible with the output and YouTube ingest. Re-encoding gives control over bitrate, frame rate, keyframes, scaling and audio, but uses CPU.
No single encoding path fits every source file. The command below demonstrates a re-encode profile; it has not been run against your file or tested with YouTube.
4. Select a YouTube-compatible output profile
YouTube’s current live encoder settings support H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its published H.264 bitrate recommendations include:

| Output profile | YouTube recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommendations, not a guarantee that your server can encode reliably at that rate or that every source benefits from that resolution. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps in its advanced settings. YouTube automatically transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, according to its encoder guidance.

This schematic command uses the loop pattern shown in AWS’s FFmpeg guide for recorded video. That guide targets Amazon IVS, not YouTube; the example below adapts the structure to YouTube’s published encoder guidance and is not a verified YouTube command. Replace the placeholders with the event’s RTMPS URL and key, and adjust flags to your source, frame rate, resolution and FFmpeg build.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /path/to/video.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4M -maxrate 4M -bufsize 8M
-g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv 'YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL/YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY'
In this template, -re reads the file at its native rate and -stream_loop -1 repeats it indefinitely. The video settings use a 4 Mbps target and a 60-frame GOP. That is approximately a two-second keyframe interval only when the outgoing video is actually 30 fps. If you need another frame rate, set it deliberately and adjust the GOP so the interval remains about two seconds; add scaling and frame-rate options if the source does not match the target profile. The bitrate shown is the 4 Mbps recommendation for 240p–720p at 30 fps, not a general recommendation for other profiles.
Keep the real key private. Avoid pasting a credential-bearing command into a shared terminal session or saving it in shell history. The exact safe method for injecting the key depends on your deployment and FFmpeg build; test that the final command still connects to the event’s RTMPS endpoint.
For reference, AWS’s recorded-video FFmpeg example demonstrates the structural use of -re -stream_loop -1 -i, encoding options, -f flv and an RTMPS destination. It is an IVS example and does not validate this YouTube template.
6. Test the event and operate it unattended
- Start with a test event or an appropriately scheduled event and run the exact media and command you plan to use.
- Confirm that YouTube receives both video and audio, and review the event’s stream-health messages before relying on the loop.
- Use representative movement and audio in the test; a static or silent segment may not expose issues that occur in the actual program.
- Observe CPU usage, network traffic, FFmpeg process health and YouTube stream health over a representative period. Recalculate transfer using your chosen bitrate and expected monthly uptime.
- For unattended operation, use an OS-appropriate service manager or supervisor, restart policy, log rotation and alerting. Validate those settings for your distribution and service setup rather than assuming one generic configuration applies everywhere.
- Test any reconnection behavior against your FFmpeg build and YouTube event before relying on it. A restart or reconnect strategy can help after transient failures, but there is no universally validated reconnection command for every build and deployment.
AWS’s guide and YouTube’s settings documentation describe relevant patterns and requirements, but this workflow has not been executed or performance-tested here. Do not treat the template as proof of a working deployment.
Common problems and fixes
- RTMPS SSL error or timeout: Check the event’s server hostname and port, confirm the endpoint is RTMPS rather than a mismatched RTMP URL, and verify that your FFmpeg build supports the required TLS path.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Confirm the event is the intended one, the matching stream key is current, and the destination is assembled from the event’s actual ingest URL and key. Keep the key private while checking it.
- Video arrives but the stream is unhealthy: Check whether output bitrate and resolution/frame rate align with YouTube’s encoder guidance and whether the VM can sustain the encoding load. Review CPU use, keyframe interval and stream-health messages.
- FFmpeg cannot find
libx264or fails on output: The installed build may lack that encoder or RTMPS/FLV support. Verify available encoders and build capabilities, then use a trusted package or build appropriate to your OS. - Video stutters, freezes or falls behind: Check CPU saturation, source decoding load, network stability and transfer behavior. Test the source on the selected VM; the documented VM specification alone cannot establish real-time encoding performance.
- Unexpectedly high cloud bill: Compare actual outbound transfer with the regional included allowance and overage terms. Re-estimate at the actual video bitrate and uptime, including audio and overhead, rather than relying only on the monthly VM price.
- The loop does not repeat as expected: Check that the input path is readable and the installed FFmpeg accepts
-stream_loop -1for the selected input. Confirm behavior during a test before leaving the service unattended.
